If you are staying at Aulani or anywhere on the west side of Oahu, you have to check out Shimazu Store in Kapolei. It is only about a 20 minute drive from Aulani and was definitely worth the trip. The shaved ice was so soft and fluffy. We tried the Melon Cream, Ube Cream (a must-try) and P.O.G., which was super refreshing. We also added the haupia topping and it was absolutely amazing! It was so creamy and delicious. We tried the mochi topping too. It was okay, but I would definitely get the haupia topping again. If you are looking for a great shaved ice spot away from the busy tourist crowds, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!
Smimazu Store is a hidden gem! The shop is clean, welcoming, and gives off much Aloha. Display shelves are stocked with small packages of their branded local kine snacks, making it more than just a shave ice shop. The staff was friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home. The shave ice itself was exactly what great modern shave ice should be--light, fluffy, and instantly melting in your mouth with every bite. The syrup flavors are on point, tasting vibrant without being overly sweet, and the house flavor combinations are absolutely on point. Smimazu has officially earned a spot on my go-to list for shave ice whenever I'm back home visiting family. If you're looking for authentic, high-quality shave ice with great service, this place is definitely worth a visit! Mahalo nui
I've been going here since I was little kid and their shop was in Liliha. The shave ice is always sooo soft, yummy syrups and the portions are huge. The Keiki size is the same size as a normal one from any other place. My go to order is Keiki strawberry cream/banana cream with ice cream and snow cap. The perfect treat on any day but especially a hot one!
I would say this was a decent place to get shave ice but with the competition now days across the whole island it was pretty mediocre. The store itself was very small but conveniently located next to sushi bay which we ended up going to afterwards. The prices were fair, I just prefer Matsumotos or Waiola shave ice.
Huge portions and fast, friendly service! We stopped by for dessert after eating lunch at Sushi Bay next door. The shop is a relatively small hole in the wall with plenty of benches outside for eating. We ordered the Shimazu Special which was big enough for two to share. Will definitely return to try the other shaved ice specials.
I was so sad to hear their original location closed, but now they have one in Kapolei! So I can have Shimazu when I'm on either side of the island which is an incredible perk. Their shaved ice is the reason why I only go to Hawaii to eat it and I never touch it back in California. Its located in a large shopping plaza, so parking is not an issue. There is one bench located inside, but shaved ice is best enjoyed outside anyway. The cashier was friendly, and working very hard since they were the only person in the store to take orders and to prepare the shaved ice. The kids size is huge, and is more than enough for one person. I love that they have so many flavors, and each of them is made in house.

Amazing shave ice in Kapolei? Yes, please! My family loves matcha shave ice and this spot makes it sooo good! Plus the size of the shave ice is HUGE! We shared one with the three of us. There's benches outside of the store that you could sit and enjoy. I love that there's ample amount of parking, too! Absolutely delicious shave ice with azuki, condense milk and icecream inside. Service was speedy and friendly. Hope this place stays in business forever.

Shimazu Store in Kapolei was a treasure to find. We often stay up in Ko-Olina and having to drive all the way to the Shimazu Shave Ice next to Rainbow Drive-In is such a haul. But we would make the drive every time because it is the best shave ice on the island. Until we found this place. As just as sweet, with equally wonderful scoops of perfectly fine shave ice, it is so much closer. Found out that this place is owned by the father of the person who runs the other Shimazu so no wonder the quality is just as good. Plus, this place is cleaner, more tidy, and without long lines. Wow. FOOD: Amazing shave ice. Again, these are not snow cones but four levels above. And so perfect. Try it with ice cream! Huge selection of flavors too. SERVICE: Friendly and quick and again clean plus with options the other Shimazu doesn't have. Totally worth it! COST: I'd pay twice for shave ice this good!
Love that Shimazu is close by my home. It's been a hot Indian summer and weather muggy. So a shave ice helps beat the heat. Plenty of parking. Plenty of options. HUGE serving for a small. Great price. Plenty of seating right outside, which is the cement planter wall. Perfect size store. Helpful staff. Nice affordable options of candy and popcorn. And the display in front is super cute. Nice to see families sharing while we all try to beat the heat.

This is going on the list! My normal GO TO shaved ice is Waiola when I'm in town and Matsumoto when I'm on the north shore, but looks like I'm going to the Shimazu Store when I'm on the leeward side. It all comes down to the ice. Gotta be fine melt in your mouth ice. Not chunky or gritty. And they got the good ice here. They have some other good local goodies like arare and li hing mui candies. As far as shaved ice goes, I always get the same thing: ice cream on the bottom, vanilla shaved ice, and a snow cap of condensed milk on the top. The ice cream was average quality (probably wouldn't get that again), but the syrup they used for the saved ice is so flavorful. Maybe the best syrup I've had. Highly recommend if you're in the area! read more
D1 always craving a sweet treat. And sweet treat she shall have. So so so close to home now and conveniently located next to @sushibaykapolei Smells like popcorn as soon as you open the door. I was tempted to get some bc I love me some furikake popcorn. So many flavors to choose from, but luckily they make it easy and we opted for a Local Favorite: The Tropical Medley- lilikoi, mango, and guava topped with condensed milk w vanilla ice cream and homemade mochi hiding under the snow like texture shave ice. The ice is so soft and the mochi has the perfect chewy texture. Their syrups are delicious and not overly sweet. They sell a bunch of snacks in addition to the popcorn, as well as other snacks and treats like li hing candies, okoshi, and "power bars". The girl at the counter was super, sweet, and friendly. Our order came out very quickly and was made perfectly. We ordered the keiki size and it was still plenty for 3 people. I remember really liking the other Shimazu location on our last visit so I had high expectations here. They didn't disappoint! They have so many unique flavors and creams but it can be a little bit overwhelming so I ended up just picking off the Shimazu Favorites list and adding mochi. But as I was standing there waiting, I noticed so many flavors I wanted to try, like Fuji Apple and Sweet Coffee! But we were plenty happy with our Coconut Dream, which has coconut and ube cream, Haupia cream on top, and vanilla ice cream inside. When you add on mochi (extra $1.25) they put it inside which I kinda wish it was on the outside like other places, because the ice hardens it a bit. It wasn't quite as soft and chewy as other places but still not bad! The keiki size was actually plenty for our family to share too. There was no wait at all when we came here and they even have some cute merch that would make a great souvenir! read more

Great spot for shave ice! They have a large selection of flavors/toppings and other little snacks within the shop as well. The consistency of the ice is not my favorite but it's pretty standard as shave ice goes. The portions are MASSIVE and it is very cheap for the amount that you receive. The keiki is only 4.50 and it is the size of other locations large. Add ons are about 1.50 additional and they also do set specials that you can not make substitutions with. The service is very kind and inviting. I even changed my flavor at the last moment and they had no issues and were extremely accommodating. The inside of the shop is super cute and kawaii. There are tons are decorations and they also decorate seasonly. It's very colorful and bright and puts you in a good mood. Definitely a recommend if you're in the area read more
Very friendly owner! On our first visit, here's what we observed: - Reasonable prices for shave ice and snacks - Small waiting area with a bench (seats about 4 people) - Wide selection of fun and unique shave ice flavors - Wait time was a bit long for just two keiki shave ice (over 10 minutes, with only one single order ahead of us. Possibly new staff still in training?) - The strawberry syrup flavor was different from what we're used to, but still sweet and refreshing I debated whether I had enough to post a review, but decided to share our early impressions. There's no doubt that we plan on returning to try other flavors - especially the Ube varieties I've got my eye on. My wife is the real shave ice fanatic tho, and she only ever orders strawberry. The strawberry at Shimazu Store wasn't quite her usual vibe. Think, Fanta vs. Hawaiian Punch - that's the best way I can explain the controversial premise... Shimazu is known for their flavors and big size shave ice. We preferred the keiki and even that was a lot. The flavors are amazing. We use to go to Liliha all the time. This location is so much more convenient with parking. Shade. And area to sit. U don't feel crammed. The customer service is beyond. Very polite very friendly. Highly recommend. Price is reasonable! read more
Nostalgia and now! Gone are the plastic holders that held choice of toppings and small size was still considered humongous or bumbucha! I really miss it! Only see paper bowls. Shave ice have differences in height. Grateful for ample free parking. If quantity matters, go for shave ice only, then you'll notice a difference in height. My hubby ordered a small red watermelon, strawberry and bubble gum shave ice. He scored a massive shave ice. If complexity and toppings are a must, expect shave ice to be shorter in height. I ordered what I really missed and craved for a small Shimazu Special - homemade, generous cubed or square shaped mochi and Dave's vanilla ice cream hidden under red velvet and crème brûlée, drizzled with condensed milk. Dang! The small appeared and seemed minute or tiny in the bowl. I enjoyed every spoonful and smoothness of my afternoon treat on a humid day. Five stars for communication in customer service. There's a 3% surcharge if using credit card. Our orders were ready in a jiffy. My only concern when line extends out the door is to possibly use a PA system to call out numbers so employees are not holding the perishable shave ice for long. For now, patrons are given number(s) on popsicle stick(s). Inside of the shop to order is tiny. There's also a wall of prepackaged snacks - rock salt plum and more, plus premade pops ready to freeze. Now I know what I will do on my next visit. Nix the mochi and ice cream. Go for the uncommon flavors - green river or kahlua with possibly a haupia creme. I might possibly score a tower next time. Shimazu is a definite treat, especially in this summer heat! I absolutely loved the haupia sauce, it's a must-try and takes the shave ice to another level. It can get a bit crowded outside, especially with the nearby Sushi Bay customers, so just be aware if you plan to enjoy your shave ice right away. I also really appreciate that this is a Christian-owned store, which makes me love supporting them even more. Great flavors, refreshing treats, and a positive atmosphere, highly recommend! read more
Shimizu Store now at their new location in Kapolei Shopping Center. Back in the day I stayed at my grandparents home just a couple of houses away from the old B&S store on School St. They renamed the store to the Shimizu Store a while back. Known for their "Shaved Ice". Those ice shaving machines have no equal creating delicious shaved ice treats in a variety of flavors and combinations. My favorite is the Strawberry and when I feel like splurging I get it with vanilla ice cream . They also have a nice variety of merchandise that make great gifts or something to treat yourself to. Locally owned and operated. They always greet you with a smile . read more

It had its unique vibe, but the parking was really challenging! The new location in Kapolei Shopping Center is much better! It's clean, bright, bigger, and has air conditioning and a bench inside! I ordered a plain, keiki sized, rainbow shave ice. The strawberry red, vanilla blue, and banana yellow syrups brought back memories of when my dad took me and my three sisters to the original Shimazu Store. Back in the day, we all piled into the car with our mom and enjoyed our small kid family time! My dad thought it was the best deal and the highest quality shave ice because the texture is very fine! To this day, the prices are still reasonable and the service is just as friendly! If you go now during their Grand Opening, you can choose either a strawberry or vanilla complimentary Kay Pop (like a popsicle without a stick)! Go now! read more
Totally planned to visit the Liliha location before they closed, but before I knew it, it opened up in Kapolei, and my daughter and I were enjoying the mall's Easter festivities! I was so happy for them when I heard the cashier mention how busy they are in Kapolei versus their old location! Love the easy, convenient parking, beautiful storefront, and festive shave ice decorations. It was a hot day, so the shave ice treat was perfect. We chose the keiki size to share, and it was HUGE! For only about $4.75, we enjoyed three yummy flavors - red velvet, strawberry cream, and orange cream. Our favorite was the strawberry cream - we'll definitely get that next time, and probably try another yummy specialty flavor (no extra charge for the specialty flavors)! read more
My favorite shave ice shop on the island now has a kapolei location! And it's right next to my favorite place to eat... Sushi Bay! It's the perfect spot to grab a light dessert after you pig out on sushi. I love the massive sizes at Shimazu - my bf and I always share a Small. I just think a Large can't be eaten fast enough between two of us before it melts! Even adding condensed milk and ice cream, it's under $10... what a steal considering a double scoop of Dave's ice cream will run you $8+ these days. The plethora of flavors is a blessing and a curse. Honestly, you can go wrong, but I'm a fruity flavor girly, so I recommend: Guava, Lilikoi, and Strawberry Crème (this one tastes like Samurai soft serve). If you're in the area, don't miss Shimazu! Shimazu is BACK! This time they are in Kapolei! Gone are the days of very limited parking on School Street. Now, there is parking all over! Location: Kapolei Marketplace in the middle of Baskin Robbins and Sushi Bay! Parking: lots of Kapolei Marketplace parking, but it will fill up in the afternoon. Service: it was the first day open and we came an hour before closing. After that there was a line!! There was only 2 people working, but they did great! They also gave a sample of Kay pops to bring home and freeze. I ordered my favorite, creme brulee and red velvet. Sooo delish woth ice cream and condensed milk. Taste just the same as it did at School Streetm If you don't know, Shimazu Shave ice is known for their surplus of flavors and LARGE portions. Tips: if you dare get the large, share that thing with 3 people. read more

I grew up going to Shimazu's at their old School Street location so oh boy was I ecstatic to hear that they were opening in Kapolei. I moved from town to Kapolei a few years ago so this is definitely bringing nostalgia straight to me. I shared a regular size with my partner and it was the perfect afternoon snack. The ice and mochi are always soft and the syrup goes all the way through. Perfection! It is just as I remembered it and it was friendly service with some familiar faces. I love to see this local business thriving and bringing their warm local energy to another place in Kapolei. read more

They get a star for nostalgia and for service. The store front is quaint. However, there was a large dead moth at the front window next to the bench inside the store. The bench looks like the one they had outside the Liliha location. Something isn't right on multiple levels. This is not Shimazu quality. The lychee and mango both taste medicinal/chemical. I've never experienced any ill tasting syrups at the Liliha location. Or the ice was contaminated which altered the syrup flavors. After a few bites, I could not bring myself to eat any more and tossed it. My son commented maybe they use unfiltered tap water for the ice bc the ice texture is definitely far from the heavenly fresh snow softness the Liliha location consistently had. He had the same experience with his rainbow shave ice. I tried his, it had the same chemical flavor to it. The ice texture with their unique syrup flavors is what I loved most about Shimazu shave ice at Liliha which I patroned for almost two decades and was quite sad to see it go. I live in Kapolei but would go to Liliha for my favorite shave ice. I was super excited when I found out they were coming to Kapolei. But now I find myself quite disappointed. Perhaps they did not rinse the ice mold properly after washing it and it contaminated the ice with whatever detergent they use. At a later time, I will make another attempt at this location. If I get the same results, that'll be it for this location. read more

First timers here visiting from vegas. Their shave ice is as good as matzumoto's in Haleiwa. Their shaved ice is very soft. They have alot of different flavors to choose from. They also sell liquid popsicles to bring back to freeze. We got the matcha-Zuki and the tropical medley. They also sell a small variety Hawaiian goodies. They have really fast service. 1 working the counter and 2 other people working the shaved ice and flavor station. Definitely a must when I come to visit again. read more
After grocery shopping and some dinner, what better way to end the evening with the kids but with shave ice! What was once a staple on N. School Street has relocated to Kapolei. They have tons of flavors and toppings to choose from. Instead of getting a headache to decide you can try the preselected flavors and that's what I did. Being nextdoor to Baskin Robins is a brave move and whoever goes for ice cream may want to glance to the left and think about their next move! haha! Fantastic flavors with condensed milk.and a haupia ice cream is what I can remember. The whole order was just amazing and reminded me of childhood flavors. Food: Everything was delicious and tasted exactly as expected--you really can't go wrong. The shave ice was perfectly soft, and the portion size was generous for the price, especially compared to other spots. Ambiance: The vibe fit the area really well. Shave ice and pop corn is the best on the west!!! Awesome service by the owner she's so nice and has a great personality. The ambiance is perfect nice shop great vibe. My wife got a shave ice and the owner gave us a bag of pop corn hurricane style so buttery and fresh pop corn good crunch. Thank you so much we will be back for sure. read more
The store only been open for two days and it's busy. The wait isn't too long and everyone enjoys it right outside of the establishment. Location right in the middle of Sushi Bay and Baskin Robins. Staff is friendly and helpful. The store is big enough to accommodate the line and it helps with the benches outside for sitting. I ordered one of the Shimazu's Special the Coconut Dream which is Coconut Cream, Ube Cream, Haupia Cream Topping, and Vanilla Dave's ice cream. First off all specials come in the small size but the small is a pretty decent size that you would get at any other shave ice place. The shave ice is so good it is smooth and melts in your mouth. Word to the wise you have to eat this right away there is no way you can take this home. The consensus among the kids and adults is it's SO GOOD!!! I'm glad they brought this here in Kapolei. If you have a chance check it out you will not be disappointed. read more

Recently transplanted from N.School Street in Liliha to this new location in Kapolei. Actually enjoyed it even more where the parking is plentiful, the outdoor seating is ample, the air conditioning in the store is cranked up! Still the same snacks available including my favorite k-pops to share with out of town friends (think liquid ready to be frozen into popsicles in many tropical and/or favorite flavors). Shave ice, the star of the show comes in flavored ice only to really deluxe combos with many options in-between. If you are not sharing with others, I recommend the "keiki" portion which is big enough to still support three flavors. And at only $4.50 for the basic its a real steal! Because i wanted to sample multiple flavors today I had a 3 flavor keiki with red velvet, ube cream, and matcha latte. My hands down favorite of the three was the ube cream followed closely by the green tea milk. Other had the pickled mango which she said was nice and tart AND sweet at the same time.
