Came on a Friday and I was expecting that finely shaved soft snow texture shaved ice action but, unfortunately that was not what I got. Shaved ice was more crushed ice texture. More crunch and not that melt in your mouth texture I was expecting. Even the syrup flavors were not what I was expecting, it had that artificial sugar taste to it. I was not a fan at all! My sister in law who enjoys this location even said it was an off day for them when we went. So I'm chopping it up to a hit and miss type venue. Since I experienced it on a miss day, my review reflects my experience.

Locals recommend this shave ice spot over the wildly popular and more well known Matsumoto. We can see why. Great local flavors and we especially like the clear cups to hold the massive portions of shave ice. The ice itself is soft and snowy, and every flavor we've tried is delicious. We especially enjoy the lilikoi and tropical flavors. Service is quick and kind, and the outdoor tables also have some colorful tiny lizard visitors hoping for a sweet slurp of whatever drips on the tables.

Hubby and I were in the North Shore downtown area and wanted to try something different than the ever famous Matsumotos, and Aoki's was recommended on Amanda & Felix's YouTube channel. We got the North Shore shave ice (mango, lilikoi, guava with li hing mui) and added mochi. The flavors went well together and weren't overly sweet. Only thing was that the mochi wasn't as soft as other places. The staff were friendly and they have a nice patio area with holders to enjoy your treat. Try them out if you're in the area!

My husband and I finally tried this place, short walking distance from Matsumoto, we liked the shave ice from Aoki - the shave ice was not chunky compared to Matsumoto shave ice. We enjoyed the flavors, I do like mochi balls from matsumoto but their mochi wasn't terrible, taste good with the shave ice and ice cream. Service is quick, staff is friendly, there is a good amount of seating as. well.

It's been 29.5 years since I've last had a shave ice from Aoki, and I still have their t shirt from back then as well. They've moved locations since I was last here. I made the long drive from Waikiki today to see the north shore and indulge in an Aoki shave ice. I went back to my roots and had the Volcano with ice cream. My wife had the Northshore. Aoki is located on Kamehameha Hwy in a little red building tucked behind the north shore trading company. The Aoki shave ice was as delicious as I remember it. Nice shave to the ice and delicious flavored syrups. The outdoor seating was a nice touch from the old building. The staff was friendly and the shave ice was made quick. Aoki has been around for a long time obviously, as I stated I indulged in Aoki shave ice back in the 90's. Aoki is worth the drive and worth a stop for a delicious treat.

Better than Matsumotos lol. The wait was better, the ice was smooth and soft and the flavors were great! Definitely refreshing on a hot day and although it looked like maybe they could use another worker for faster service, they still got through the line quickly and everyone enjoyed their shave ice on the deck. Great ambiance to vibe and snack!

Took us a minute to find as it moved across the street, it has been over 12 years since we moved back to the Mainland. It was our favorite then and remains our #1 Shave Ice spot. You have to get with ice-cream to make it a one of a kind refreshing delights that just makes any visit to the North Shore better. Skip the lines across the street for the best island treat at AOKI's !!! I had to buy a new iconic shirt at the gift shop to replace the old one that I wore out over the years.

This is the spot that all the locals go to. Family owned, It has great outdoor seating. Amazing flavors- small and large sizes to choose from... traditional shaved ice or with ice cream. If you're lucky, you'll get some fun, friendly geckos that will come join you with your dessert.

I asked the locals their favorite shaved ice spot and they said Aoki's. It's right around the corner from their gift shop and they have some seating so sit and enjoy your shaved ice. I usually pick my flavors individually but decided I would try one of Aoki's famous flavors. I appreciated that their famous flavors didn't have ice cream in them because I just don't get the hype of ice cream in shaved ice. I got the North Shore shaved ice (mango, lilikoi, guava, & a splash of Li Hui Ming) and my spouse selected a trio of blueberry, raspberry, and lilikoi. We both loved our shaved ices. It's a nice refreshing treat on a hot day. I will come again and support local business!

To this day I do NOT understand why people would wait in a(n unjustifiably long) line across the street when this little gem serves up shave ice that's every bit as good. Staff here are also more laid back and easygoing. Shave is ultra fine. Syrups are homemade and mouthwatering. The pours are generous. And they have all the usual add ins--ice cream, beans, mochi, and more--knock yourself out! Wait in line with the tourists across the street, or sidle up to Aoki's counter and do shave ice like a local. And you can't beat their prices (cards accepted). It's Aoki's all the way!

(Dined 05/21/23 SU @ 4:30pm): Was I going to be cake-faced at Aoki's Shave Ice!? A friend and I enjoyed a lazy Sunday afternoon in Hale'iwa Town, and eventually we made our way to Aoki's Shave Ice before we left. Full disclosure, we each ate a large shave ice at the world-famous Matsumoto's Shave Ice earlier in the day. But no, that wasn't enough as we wanted more to end our day here. This family business has been around for over 40 years with no end in sight even though they had a competitor steps away. Was their shave ice more than "A" OK!? PURCHASE Small Shave Ice - Guava/Mango/Ube Flavors + Macadamia Nut Ice Cream ($4.00 + $2.00): Wonderfully sweet tropical flavors with some distinction among each one, the shave ice was fluffy and light, while the scoop of ice cream at the bottom stayed cold and nearly frozen until I got to it. The syrups mixed well as they made their way down. This was a lovely way to bookend an afternoon of shave ice albeit a massive sugar high was waiting for me and possibly a diabetic shock! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=J7L_G1EwNALFR9dgUmQZqQ SERVICE Since the line was long when we arrived, we had plenty of time to decide what we wanted. Once we got to the front counter and placed our order, our shave ice were ready within five minutes. We then found a place to enjoy our treat, and everything was golden; easy-peasy - mahalo! PARKING (FREE) Earlier, we easily parked in the lot next to Hale'iwa Beach Park and then walked back into town as we explored around. Otherwise, if you were lucky you found a spot along the main drag of Hale'iwa Rd. or one of the few lots - "nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A shack with an order counter and menus https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=yxb859WKPKWDtWNvV5mEfA behind it up on the wall, there was an outdoor dining area https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=2j-9Db3NpEKIsWMNAooEgw filled with benches/tables and a nearby photo-op corner https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=qe5BCXaw8Jw9PFeTFFFYLA for your social media accounts. Obviously, there was plenty of natural lighting since everything was outside, but I didn't see any electric lights when the sun went down. There were no TVs while conversations filled in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=hw3cubyxlv3561b8XtZbDQ ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Aoki's Shave Ice was a fun experience, and there certainly was enough room for two shave ice businesses in town. Mind you, although I've gone to Matsumoto's Shave Ice for decades, apparently I've never made it far enough to this place, which was a shame. The prices were comparable (I felt a tick above Matsumoto's), everything tasted wonderful, and the service was efficient. Plus, I always preferred to support small mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $6.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, there was no need for funds of any kind which included my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

Holy smokes does this place blow the rest of the shaved ice places we tried out of the water! My husband asked some locals where the best shaved ice was and we were told Aoki's so we headed straight over. There was a bit of a line but it was all worthwhile. Service was great- very patient and gave great recommendations. No indoor seating, but they do have some tables outside. The location is vibrant and colorful- my kids had a blast with all of the little lizards they kept finding around.

Michael N.

Delicious shaved ice on the north shore. Even with a long line, service was friendly and fast. We had a small shave ice with vanilla ice cream, three syrup flavors, and condensed milk. So good! And so cheap, under $6.

The price is unbeatable, great ambience with cute little chickens roaming around this atmospheric little city and their friendly shopkeepers. You would need a car to get to this place though since it's very north of the island. Park behind the building. The line moves very very fast so don't worry and just do it, you won't regret it.

We decided to finally try a different shave ice place this time since north shore has so many places. Parking was in the same lot as the food truck park that has surf and salsa which is normally really crowded during lunch hours, we came around 2:30 so it wasn't too bad but might be difficult if you come at a busier time. They hand make all of their syrups with real fruit and you can definitely tell! We got mango and coconut with banana ice cream and omg the syrups were so much better than every other shave ice place we've had. The consistency was a lot thicker than the usual liquid syrup which made it a lot more flavorful. The coconut syrup was almost like a cream that tasted just like haupia. The banana ice cream was also insanely good, my husband talked about how good the ice cream was the whole drive home haha. The ice was also really fine and smooth. The shop has the cutest outdoor seating in the back right along the water which was so peaceful and shady. Super high quality shave ice and chill laid back vibes. The macadamia nut ice cream on the bottom was excellent! The sweet cream sweetened the shaved ice perfectly. Next time I would definitely request more of the fruit flavoring.

The other two had no price tags, so I assumed they would be similar in price. When I was paying, the cashier was distracted and on the phone, so I wasn't clearly told my total. It wasn't until after the transaction that I realized I had been charged $32, which really caught me off guard. After that, I went back to ask for a refund, but they refused and said they only do exchanges, which is not what I wanted. I also had to speak with three different employees, and they all gave me the same answer without offering any real help. On top of that, I was charged an extra fee for using my debit card, even though there is a sign posted saying they do NOT charge extra for card payments. That felt very misleading. I feel like prices should be clearly marked, totals should be communicated clearly, and customers should be treated fairly. Please be careful when shopping here. You're better off going down the road to Aoki's North Shore Trading.
