I live in Santa Monica but was in Studio City and Sherman Oaks for the day and decided last minute to get roped in to taking a class at this fitness studio. What a phenomenal workout. I love Circuit Training type workouts and this definitely was one of those. Think cardio meets strength training in a great musical setting. I'm a fan of lists and what I love about this place is that it was new, super clean, everyone calls you by your first name, the music was AMAZING, it worked me out in a way and in places I don't normally hit, I had a couple of resistence options for weighted balls and bands that are incorporated into the almost one hour class, everyone was smiling and having fun, the floor is elastic making the workout really interesting and addicting, and the instructor, Dana, was super energetic and supporting without making you feel like you were a total rookie, which I was. I recommend you try it out. If you are just getting back into it, try the Basic class. If you are a sucker like me, go straight to their regular class. It's an A$$ kicker! I'll be back! read more

SHIFT by Dana Perri - Cool Event!. - Trainers Near Me

See all

I have been SHIFTing for two months now and I've never felt better. As a athlete growing up, my workouts centered around running, spinning and lifting so when I started SHIFT I had absolutely no aerobics experience (and severely lacked rhythm). Dana, Kit and Alisha have not only helped me get stronger and toned, they have become incredible role models for me, with amazing positivity and encouragement. Each trainer not only knows you by name but invests themselves in your workout goals. On top of being an incredibly supportive place, SHIFT is one hell of a workout. Combining cardio, arms, legs, abs and butt in a 55 minute class, you leave drenched in sweat and every little inch of you feeling much more firm and toned. Plus your first class is free! You HAVE to try! read more

I gotta say I really liked the two classes I made it to. I bought a 5 series with the intention of going to the 9:30am Saturday class but when I went to go, the was no longer a 9:30am class. The weekend classes are at 8:30am which I struggle with. Unfortunately, I work during the week so weekday classes don't even count for me and now the classes have expired for both myself and my friend. So sad, such a great work out. read more

I took my first class at Shift last night and I loved it. I was the only person signed up for the 6:30pm class. Kit was so sweet and taught the class just for me. It was a very fun experience. Just some background, on me so you understand my review better. I am in pretty decent shape, I've been working out regularly for the past 4 years and my favorite workouts are high intensity strength training (I mostly go to Barry's Bootcamp which I love). I also try to incorporate yoga into my workout schedule for flexibility and relaxation purposes. I have also taken classes such as Pop Physique and Cardio Barre in the past and haven't enjoyed them much. I feel like I'm always doing the wrong form in those classes and there are some workouts we do where I just don't feel the burn. It takes too much concentration. Shift was the complete opposite. I loved every workout we did and I can tell that by taking these classes consistently you would get more toned. I had a healthy sweat afterwards and felt stronger. More on the workout: every move you do is to the beat. They play great music. The first 10 minutes is a warm up, the next 10 was cardio which had my heart racing, and after that we worked out specific areas (butt, biceps, triceps, back, shoulders, abs, etc) for a few minutes each using a medicine ball and resistance bands for some workouts. Kit corrected my form a couple of times which was super helpful and also encouraged me throughout. I can't wait to take more classes. I have read from other reviews that they mix up the workouts which I love so hopefully I will continue to enjoy it. Other notes: The instructor and the girl at the front desk were very nice. The facilities were super clean. If you don't have toe sox it's completely ok. You can do the class barefoot which most people do. Parking is pretty easy. There are usually spots in the lower level of that structure. read more

I can't say enough about this place. I have recommended it to so many clients of mine. I know Dana who is a class act but I have never taken class with her. I took class with Alicia via Class Pass. She is incredible. I planned on purchasing a series but because I live in Studio City, it is challenging to make it a consistent practice because of proximity only. The place is clean, the floor is terrific and the staff is top notch. What I LOVE - these instructors are actually knowledgeable. It's not about kicking our asses or achieving a tight tush although I am certain that would happen over time, rather they are concerned about proper form and educating their clientele. They modify accordingly. They meet you where you are but at the same time, push you without breaking you down. They motivate you, are kind and caring. It is a terrific workout. read more

Such an intense full body workout! Starting with full-speed-ahead cardio, followed by medicine ball, weights and resistance bands. It definitely helps that you are doing everything on a bouncy floor. This class kicked my butt! Super friendly and welcoming studio. Teacher was very motivating and the other students in the class give you high fives. Located upstairs in the Oak Ridge Plaza towards the back left corner. Type of workout where you could easily see results if you stick with it. read more

For someone who's not so great at exercising, I have to say that SHIFT is awesome. The positive energy of the studio and the group (Sat at 8:30 am), the attentiveness and encouraging tough love-ness from Dana Perri, and the non-stop activity resulting in drenched LornaJanes make this THE go-to cardio workout. Basically, you go to SHIFT because Dana is that great and she motivates you to do better. Or try to keep up, at least. read more

My first class at Shift felt similar to a barre class (i.e., lots of repetition with very light weights), but with more plyo exercises and less ballet moves. I struggled a little with the plyo-squats and jumping because my knee was a little complainy, but I liked using different equipment to switch things up (weights, balls, bands, body weight). The staff was very friendly and helpful with modifications. BONUS - Underground parking garage read more

ClassPass introduced me to Shift by Dana Perri and boy am I glad! I wasn't sure what to expect before I took my first class but I knew I'd love it as soon as I walked through the door. Everyone in the class welcomed me and help me get set up for the workout. It seemed as if they were one big happy family and they were happy to include me in on the fun. The class is approximately 50 minutes and utilizes 1-2 lb weights, 4-6 lb medicine balls and resistance bands. The studio has a spring floor, which really helps those of us who have bad knees and ankles. The workout is high energy, low impact and just downright fun. Every muscle is worked in this class, leaving you feeling accomplished and ready to take on the day! read more

I can't say enough great things about Shift! I used to spend 1 1/2-2 hours in the gym working out solo and still never felt as good as I do after a class here. I usually take regular Shift throughout the week and then Power Shift on Sundays and love them both. Shift kicks your butt with cardio first followed by weights/strength training, while Power Shift still has some cardio but is a little more focused on weights/strength using a medicine ball. It's great that they have options so you can mix things up as you want. The workout is definitely challenging, but do-able for all ages. The classes are super diverse age-wise, with people anywhere from 20 to over 70! I usually take classes with Alicia, Emily, Conisha, or Dana (they're all super sweet but make sure to push you in class in only the best way possible!) but everyone at Shift is so nice and know what they're doing. You really can't go wrong! There's also a great sense of community here both inside and outside of class. They're really great about doing monthly challenges, special theme classes, trunk shows, & other events that make you feel encouraged to be part of the Shift family. If you're looking to maximize your workout in under an hour, you gotta try Shift! read more

I literally cannot live without Shift. This is the most intelligent, efficient and pleasant workout I've ever found. I do it every morning at 6:15AM and fly through my day with energy and strength I'd never been able to achieve before Shift. And what a team of amazing teachers lead by Dana! It truly feels like family and is a huge part of my life. It shifted me in every way and my body has never looked this good. SHIFT is the way to go! Bravo! read more

Shift is the best work out class I've ever taken. Dana gets to know everyone personally, so it makes it a really fun class. The music is pumping and she knows how to motivate you. The workouts kick my butt, but I leave class feeling very motivated and proud of my accomplishment. I'm hooked. read more

I LOVE SHIFT by Dana Perri!! After a career as a dance teacher and half a life-time as a sports and work-out enthusiast, my body has some serious joint issues!! The trampoline floor allows me to do impact with no ill-effects and the work-out keeps me fit, always challenges me, and has rehabilitated my torn rotator cuffs and even improved my Achilles tendons and heel spurs. The instructors push for achievement while always advocating that you modify if needed and listen to your body. They correct posture and form, and inspire. So it's almost like having a private work-out but with a class energy. I HIGHLY recommend this studio. Dana is a passionate, committed, and inspiring owner and coach and has developed an inclusive and friendly community. read more

Best full body workout that is a lot of fun. I look forward to every class. The instructors are great, the music is fun. Everything is awesome. Try it, you will get hooked. read more

I took a few classes here using classpass and I love it. I've never been to a studio that's been more welcoming than this one. Alicia has been my instructor both times I went and shes really encouraging and made the workout really fun. The bouncy floor is interesting, and while most people seem to be barefoot I personally liked using toesocks. With them, I found that I was able to grip the floor much better. Also don't forget a full sized towel for the ab section at the end! Would recommend, and I'll def. be back :) read more

Great classes with positive energy. Kit and Alicia are awesome. I love this to mix up my workouts. It is not normally the kind of class I would enjoy, but I love it. Clean space too! Give it a try. They are very supportive! Thanks, ladies! read more

I am a fitness snob and I LOVED this workout! Kit was an amazing instructor. Energetic challenging and fun! This is what cardio barre is trying to be. No offense to them but this class is the real deal. read more

I am obsessed with this whole concept. One of the most killer workouts I've ever done!

Took a basic class taught by Nisa Wong recently. I'm a pretty avid fitness buff...this class was definitely challenging, but also very, very fun! Nisa's energy was great. Perfect voice commands to keep my form in check and also very upbeat & motivating. Great instructor, fun atmosphere, awesome workout. read more

Love Shift. It's super challenging, high energy. Fun. All the trainers are personable and really make an effort to make a personal connection. I feel valued as a client which is a change from most gyms. Classes never seem to get easier and work your whole body. The next day, my muscles may be sore, but I'm never in pain. Love Shift! read more

There are no words to explain what an amazing fitness instructor/guru/professional teacher Dana Perri is. Although I just used a few. In the ever changing world of fitness there are very few who are truly the real thing- the pros - the greats - and Dana and her classes at Shift are just that. Believe me - don't waste your time at other studios. Shape How You Feel and live with SHIFT! You will thank me! read more

I love SHIFT. I've been going for 4 yrs and I still continue to see results. All the instructors are motivating, friendly and encouraging. It's a great full body workout. I love the spring floor, especially for the cardio part of class. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

I have been working out with Dana for over a year and she is the best. Her energy really helps you get through the class and believe in yourself and your ability. Her workouts kick your butt but in the best way possible. I highly recommend Shift for anyone looking for something new and challenging. read more

i just want to stress that i hate exercising. my sister literally has to drag me out of bed to work out with her. i always dread it but feel great afterwards. i took dana's class a couple of weeks ago and it was really challenging, but fun! i'm the type of person in class who stumbles between transitions and takes multiple breaks out of exhaustion. dana pays attention to everyone in class (even me in the back) and is really encouraging and friendly. i had a good experience there and would love to come back when i'm the area. read more

The best thing about Dana is that (unlike many trainers who run group fitness classes) she really pays attention to everyone as they progress through the class. She's got an eagle eye out for form, calls you out when you're not working hard enough, and seems to know when you are trying your hardest but can't keep up. While this is a group fitness class, she makes it feel as if she's giving you personal attention, and that's so important! As for the actual class - the hour flies by. Feels like I got a perfect TOTAL body workout. Nothing ever feels like it was underworked. The space is great, the people that go to the class are very pleasant. So glad I found Dana and Shift! read more

Everyone is always so happy to be there. Everyone runs to the grueling Dana puts them through; and it always sounds like a party at SHIFT!

I have been training with Kit since I moved to L.A. We actually became friends over the years and she is one of my favorite people on the planet but far and away my favorite trainer. I originally began training with her at a pilates studio and when she left I was so bummed that I sprung for private lessons with her because that is all she was offering at the time. It was an expense I was willing to take on because she is that good. I was so excited when she told me she was partnering with Dana and opening up SHIFT and I have been going ever since. It's such a fun class but it also kicks your ass. Take her class and you won't be disappointed (though I have heard all of the instructors are great). Kit has a contagious energy, she's a stickler on form - which keeps you safe from injury - and your body WILL see a difference. read more

I love going to Shift! I am inspired each time by the instructors and my classmates. We are rock!

Dana is the most incredible trainer. The whole shape of my body has changed. I have never worked with such an inspiring trainer, her care and concern for my well being is beyond anyone else I have ever worked with. I cant wait for each session with her. You are the best Dana. read more

Love this workout! Dana works every inch of your body. So happy she emphasizes (and challenges) the core throughout the workout. I have had weak ankles and feet for years from a bad injury--love how Dana makes sure we do foot/ankle strengthening in every workout. Dana is inspiring, motivating, and she has the ability to make you want to push your limits. A tough workout, but the payoffs are BIG! read more

SHIFT continues to be my favorite fitness studio and indoor workout in LA! I've been doing triathlons for about 6 years now and fell in love with training outdoors. Indoor gyms and a lot of classes had me bored to tears and itching to be outside....except for SHIFT. I can tackle the Malibu triathlon no problem, but that intense cardio section of the class kicks my butt every time! The instructors are all inspiring, positive, smiling, and the community here is unparalleled. Its literally the Cheers of fitness. Where else are you encouraged to high five each other and support each other with a "good job"! Start your day here...it sets you on a positive and strong path for the day! read more

Love! Love! Love! Great full body workout in a warm and receptive environment. All of the instructors are awesome and particularly my regulars, Alicia, Dana and Conisha. It is a challenging workout without the high impact due to the marvelous spring floor. The instructors are great at providing modifications for injuries which I greatly appreciate since I have a really bad knee. Worth getting up for the 6:15 a.m. Classes 3-4 days a week! Always challenging, always fun and lots of new challenges all the time. You won't regret checking it out! read more

Honestly, the most inspiring trainer and work out you can ask for. Dana brings a special energy to every single class that can not be replicated. She makes you want to do more and come back again. Every class I've taken has been a solid and fulfilling work out. I couldn't ask her for anything more, she gives her all to every student in every class. read more

Shift by Dana Perri is my FAVORITE workout . Can't say enough about the amazing Dana Perri and all of the instructors at the studio. All top notch. I must admit, I schedule my day around my Shift workout...it's that good. read more
