This review deals with the experience of picking up food to go, not the actual taste or quality of the food. Not a great experience with my last takeout order the staff seemed much more concerned with the soccer game that was on. The food here is good it is usually crowded and pretty cramped the staff... This is the first time i have regretted a tip. Maybe should have waited until I received my food. Live and learn. Update they made me the wrong roll and wanted me to take that. I should not review while I wait but sort of setting my teeth on edge. They are about to drop another star. They keep saying "5 minutes" I don't think it means what they think it does. read more

I've been going to Shibui for 10 years now. It never disappoints me. I always tend to try new things but my recommendations are the Smokey salmon roll, tuna sandwich roll, Christmas roll, shrimp Shumai and the Yakki Nikku (beef). My favorite dessert was the chocolate tower mousse but I'm not sure why is not in the menu anymore. They have to bring it back lol read more

One of my favorite spots. The upstairs has floor sitting, making it a pretty unique experience. I visited Shibui for the first time many years ago (10+ years for sure). I remember loving the cozy and dimmed lighting in the upstairs area and definitely seating on the floor made the experience more authentic. I even remember coming here on a few dates. From what I recall, the sushi was good, but my memory was not very clear on anything else. I was in the area and we were craving sushi, so we decided on Shibui. This time, the experience was ok. We sat in the upstairs area again (my fav.) and proceeded to order a few appetizers, several different rolls and sake. The rolls were too big and fell apart as we picked them up, which made dipping them in soy sauce a struggle. Also everything tasted just meh... ok. The service was great however. I am not sure I will return... my memories of Shibui have been slightly tarnished LOL. read more

I love this place! Every time I go I always enjoy myself. This last time I went to meet up with an old friend and catch up. Shibui has two story seating. The downstairs offers regular table seating, while upstairs you get to go the more authentic route and sit on the floor. For tall folks that might not be as comfortable, but hey live a little, it's fun! For appetizer, I ordered the Shrimp Shumai, which were perfectly fried (yeah I didn't go steam) with a sweet sort of glaze. I also had the miso soup, which honestly lacked some salt, but it still was good. As for my roll, I ordered the screaming O, which is a salmon roll topped with a spicy mayo and conch mix. For those who don't like a lot of mayo, ask for it on the side. The roll was really yummy and the fish was really fresh. For dessert, they offer a wide impressive variety to choose from, but we went for the usual of fried tempura banana with ice cream. The ice cream I could not quite figure out the flavor. It didn't look like vanilla, but either way it was perfect with the fried banana. The server was a very friendly woman and like always the service was prompt and very accommodating. read more

Un-real! To start we got the garlic mussels, and I have to recommend them over and over because they were the BEST mussels I have ever had. Large variety in sushi rolls, which after trying a few I was very happy with the freshness. I also recommend ordering the "tuna sandwich roll" it's basically a spicy tuna roll but it comes in the rice shape of small finger sandwiches. Great sake selection as well. Great sushi place recommended by fellow Yelpers Kristin N. and Tony C. We ordered the beef tataki as an appetizer which was perfect. For dinner I ordered the Arizona roll and Rainbow roll, both which were melt in my mouth delicious. On a whim I ordered the incredibly opaque iced green tea which I spotted a nearby patron sipping on. The waiter asked if I ever had it before, and brought out a sample for me to try to see if I liked it, which I did and ordered a glass. It wasn't sweet, but had a very mild flavor. Thankfully Shibui has a good selection of non-sushi dishes for those individuals who prefer cooked dishes, so it's a happy medium for both parties. After last night's dinner I only wished we'd known about this place sooner and before we moved further north because it's a great restaurant. read more

Back in 2005 when I was brand new to Miami, I asked my supervisor at my new job where I should go to have some great sushi. She recommended Shibui and now, 6 years later, it is still my #1 spot when a sushi craving hits. I have tried all the other places in the area and no one stacks up to the consistent delicious food I can count on at Shibui. It's even great as takeout and they really take the time to package the takeout containers with care. I have literally liked or loved every single thing I have ever tasted here. My typical order includes shrimp or crab shumai (steamed) as a quick app to tantalize your palate. All the apps are cheap and small plates so if we're with a group we usually order a few to share. For sushi my favorites are the Pinky Roll, Dell Roll, and the USA roll. If I'm being naughty and eating fried rolls the Dragon roll and Caliente are other favs. My husband always gets either the Teriyaki Salmon or Beef, if I get an entree I love the Shrimp stir fry. Not a bad sushi place west of Miami! I'm a huge fan of the variety of choices of fish. I ordered a variety of salmon, tuna, and eel rolls and the salmon was definitely my favorite. The fish was super fresh, as was the tuna. There was something slightly off about the eel, but nothing major. The prices are decent, as a reflection of getting out of the city. The interior is really eclectic and the second floor even has an authentic pillow-on-the-floor style seating! I'll try to get there next. read more

I'm going to update this for a second time because they deserve it. I had no idea this restaurant has been around for so long. My boyfriend mentioned he used to come here as a kid. I mean, their sushi is the best so I can see why. I used to come here a lot when I was still studying at FIU. After graduating, I moved away and just recently came back. I can't believe it took me several months to remember this place existed because it's so good! I've been having sushi at other spots and now I feel dumb. My favorite is still the Pinky roll. I tried the Mexican roll & wow. Just wow. They put some avocado salsa guacamole thing on top and it's sooooo delicious. I let my boyfriend have some and he agreed it was really good. Hot sake is tasty. Green tea iced tea was yummy. We sat at the sushi bar upstairs and were served promptly. I kind of love sitting there. It reminds me of that Lickitung mini game in Pokémon Stadium (where my 90s kids at) I've only ever had sushi and dessert here so I don't know if their teriyaki and other things as just as good. The food was really good. Had sushi. Date did the same. Service was average. What was very disappointing and reason for the 3 stars is how dirty the carpeting is upstairs. Everything is dated. The restaurant is over 25+years old. Carpet looks like never changed. If it was, it's been 10+years. Very ugly impression. The pads to sit on and the walls railings all look so old and dirty. Very disappointed went there today because for years it's been one of my favorite places but today my waitress was not well trained for the job, I believe the waitress it's responsible for the best experience you can have at a restaurant. One star because the food was ok not a "wow" like it used to be, appetizers came first but I think he forgot the drinks so we had to ask for them again, then my meal came first it was supposed to be with soup which the waitress forgot about it as well I had to ask for it and my husband's food came after I had finished mine witch I ate because I didn't want my food to get cold, well glad a ate because the sushi rolls my husband order were pack to go and they had no clue they belong to us, when they realized it was ours they just change to plates an serve the sushi rolls to us after they were seating there for a while, again our waitress was not paying attention at all. Wow Shibui is amazing!! I'm absolutely in love with the whole concept and the traditional sitting on the floor while eating. I ordered a sashimi appetizer, a rainbow roll, a brown rice tea, and to finish it off, a tempura ice cream for dessert, which I shared with a friend. The food was absolutely outstanding and beautifully presented. This is just such a cool place for any occasion and I have nothing negative to say about the place. Great service, clean space, prices are awesome, everything is perfect. However, I do recommend making a reservation beforehand because the place tends to get full pretty quickly... but I can totally understand why. 10/10 would recommend and will come back again soon! read more

Average service, the food was ok, nothing out of this world, we have our own little hole on the wall we prefer, won't mention it here, this review is about this restaurant. Did not ask and assumed we know how to eat with sticks, we do and we are very critical on service and taste. Don't bring over other people's finished plates to ask if we want anything else!! Disgusting. You won't run away but might be a bit hesitant to come back or make it your top choice. Overall it's ok and would return if nothing else is available. OMFG!!! We ordered the guava cream brûlée and it is out of this world!! We will return just for this, and my wife ordered the green tea one, I cannot believe the flavor. Very good!! Within two weeks of my first review, I went back for a farewell dinner party. And I wasn't disappointed! 14 people, they took reservations and decided to sit us on the second floor...on the ground. ( I am unsure if the girl who made the call wanted to sit on the floor or it just happened that way). We all managed to cram in and the waitress was very patient as we all pondered over the menu. Being the only Asian at the table, I advised people on dinner choices, and everyone was extremely pleased. The waitress actually recognized me...and was very sweet, she changed my sashimi dinner order to ALL white tuna sashimi with brown rice, with no extra charge! Dessert got everyone talking...since we ordered a chocolate lava cake and everyone was fighting for it! One girl had to order it to go for her boyfriend...(but she ended up eating a few bites before she left!) Check time was a breeze, waitress was very efficient and split the check accordingly. Good, fresh food...great service. It's worth the drive! :) Tip-bits: If you make reservations, request for table seating on the first floor if you have long legs and don't like sitting on the ground. I had a wonderful night out at Shibui. The upstairs seating (the low tables) absolutely charmed me--perfect for an intimate dinner with friends. Our waitress was quick and attentive, and the food was delicious. Prices were totally reasonable - I've paid much more for much less at other places, and had nowhere near as nice a time. While Miami is the sort of city in which one never need eat at the same place twice, I will definitely return to Shibui! read more

This is my first 2 stars, and it is a bit disappointing because I've been here often over the years. This time will be the last. The sushi rolls were terribly done, sloppy, irregulars sizes and falling apart when handled. The sushi chef really needs to care a bit more about his craft. This place is alright I suppose when it comes to the food. Decent usuzukuri. Acceptable shrimp shumai, tuna tataki and roll assortment. I have been many times but I had such terrible service on two separate occasions that it warrants me never returning. The first time around we had a larger group and they put us in the backroom upstairs to accommodate. We repeatedly had to get up and hunt our server down for water, to take our order etc. The second time it was a full house and we were again put in the backroom. The service was so bad it was almost comical. Nevermind our server being m.i.a. most of the meal, they actually closed the restaurant with us still in it waiting for our cheque. I timed them for an hour and finally gave up and called the restaurant from my cell phone to which they answered "sorry we're closed". I replied "yes, we know we've been waiting for an hour for our server to return". Boy were they surprised! That's the PG version. Shibui is a great sushi spot. It's also very romantic. Upstairs tends to be more private although you have to figure out a comfortable way to sit on the floor. I made a reservation for Friday night just a few hours before without a problem and noticed the long line of people waiting outside to be seated. We arrived a little late but were seated promptly. The service was very friendly and quick. The sushi rolls yummy: we had the dragon roll, spider roll and the sex on the beach roll (the last one was recommended by our waiter). They were all good, although the spider roll did have a tendency to break a little easily. Overall, I loved the food, the ambiance, the convenient parking and the friendly service. I love this place ! All the time that I'm going g there I have a great experience. I'm choosing this place because I love them special sushi dinner. (I guess number 54). It's one plate with rice under mixed with mushroom and in the top different king of sashami. The miso soup is really good also. We tried different starter. 1.dumplings (shrimp or pork) are really good, 2, beef kimchi was a new taste and i really enjoy it. All the time we ask for recommandation and they give us good dishes. This is one of my favorite restaurants but somehow have never posted a review for them. So here goes. The food is very good and always consistent, my favorites are the shrimp shumai, caliente roll, and the Thai doughnuts and some very cold Sake of course. I sit upstairs every visit and the waitresses Ali and Yumi are always very nice and attentive. I don't go more often because of the distance but try to make it at least twice a month. read more
