Shibui a 5 star and has been my favorite place for over 20 years and I tell everyone about it. My last visit has now turned it in to a 4 star..sad. The food has always been fresh and delicious but the best part for me is the experience and ambiance. From sitting on the floor, wiping your hands with a warm wet towel, lighting, food presentation and music. Perhaps it was the late 9pm reservation, but the experience completely lacked and the food subpar. I took my daughter for her birthday last week. I noticed they made some nice changes to the decor, though it definitely changed the calm ambiance it once had. The pillows on the floor really need some care. The service is not what it used to be. No wet warm towels, food served over the railings, food took forever, no refills unless prompted - if and when you saw your server. The food was fresh but prepared without much care or detailed presentation. Again, maybe it was the time (I hope so) but shout out to Shibui...it's slipping. read more

Located literally around the corner of our house, is a little sushi joint called Shibui, and it's one of my to go places for good fresh sushi. This place is modeled after the sushi bars in Tokyo with two floors and a very homey atmosphere. We were seated after ten minutes and we decided to get several rolls such as the rainbow roll , tuna roll, California roll, spider (soft shell crab) roll and several nigiri sushi such as the salmon roe and the omelette. The quality of the fish remain excellent and very fresh, while the rice has the right texture not too sticky. Regarding desert we always order the ice cream tempura which uses amaretto flavor ice cream which give it a good sweet after taste. If you don't have the opportunity to travel to Tokyo and want the full sushi experience go to Shibui and enjoy. read more

The food was DELICIOUS and fresh. The only reason I am giving this restaurant a 4 star is because the service was not the greatest. We had to wait a while for someone to attend us to take our orders for drinks and food. Although it took a while the food did not disappoint. Amazing sushi, just wish the roll pieces were a little smaller as they sometimes are a lot to fit. Always a great atmosphere especially if you sit upstairs, and the plethora of options has something for everyone. Been here twice and can't wait to make it my regular sushi spot so i can go through the menu and check out the offerings. One of my favorite combos ever is hamachi and jalapeño, so naturally i ordered the hamachi jalapeño sushi appetizer and wow. delicious with the ponzu sauce and thinly shaven onions, a must try if you like hamachi. Their salmon nigiri is always so fresh and buttery, and the rolls i've tried are all great, especially the coconut dragon. The spicy tuna has a nice twist as they add avocado and cucumber as well! I love Shibui! Hands down my favorite Japanese restaurant in town! I've been here many times throughout the years and I can definitely recommend just about anything on the menu. It's only a matter of "is this something you'd want to eat?" Because the quality is great. As for the service, the staff is very friendly and always trying to help/accommodate. Food comes out fast too for a made to order place. On top of it all, I would say the prices are fair for a high quality Japanese restaurant. Some of my favorite things on the menu are the portobello mushroom appetizer, volcano roll, spicy crunchy dragon roll, cooked dynamite, any tempura, any stir fry - my favorite is the letter M. Which is a savory mixed seafood stir fry. If you want a savory broth/soup you can also get a beef sukiyaki which is enough for 2 people to share and it's soft, flavorful, and just delicious. These are just some of my favorites but really you can't go wrong here. As for desserts they have a nice variety. Green tea or red bean ice cream are both very pleasant, the chocolate tart is decadent, the Thai donuts are fluffy and lightly crispy, and the fried ice cream is nutty and has a wonderful mixture of sweet flavors. Tried and true great sushi! We went for our anniversary because it was where we went in our first date 22 yrs ago. Fresh and tasty sushi done how you like it. Hamachi jalapeño was delicious. Is there a place that was in your regular rotation and then somehow you forgot about it? For me that's Shibui. We came here regularly for Sushi in the 90s and always loved it. Then as sushi became more popular and more and more places opened I forgot about it. Like for 15 years. The other day I came across it in yelp and mentioned to my wife how long it had been. So tonight we went back. The eggplant appetizer is as good as always. It's about a quarter eggplant fried so it's hot and soft with a dressing that perfectly mixed with the flavor of the eggplant. I ordered the sashimi platter which was 5 different types of fresh fish. All of them were fresh and tasted great. The salad that came with it was like a c-. I also ordered a miso soup witch was a c. My wife got the shrimp stir fried with vegetables. The first player was a bit salty so it went back. The second was pretty good but to me nothing special. On previous visits we have tried bunch of stuff but the rolls and sushi were always the star. This visit did not change my thinking on that. read more

Shibui has been a family staple for this community for such a long time, but a while back for some reason my whole family stopped coming since we had noticed a decline in food. This past Sunday I finally got my wife to come back in which I am so glad that we did since our meal was nothing less than phenomenal! Sunday around 7 and the place was pretty packed, loud per usual. We were seated promptly and handed their large menus. I'd definitely say take your time digesting the menu since its vast and offers so many great options. My family always holds on to the menu and order as we go so to start with we got the edamame, tuna sandwhiches, the spicy octopus salad, and the fried pork shumai. The thinly sliced octopus salad has a nice kick but not at all overwhelming and was a refreshing start to the meal. The tuna sandwich---scrumptious! I have come with my wife several times now and we have always been happy with our experience. We have come on a Friday night, on the weekend and even during the week. We have eaten in the main dining room, and upstairs where you sit on cushions on the floor. There is also a bar like area upstairs where you can watch the sushi chefs preparing the sushi. On our most recent visit we were seated in the very back room upstairs, which is sitting on cushions, but there was soft music playing and it made me feel like I was in a spa -- very relaxing. Our waitress came right away with warm towels to clean our hands and took our drink order. I usually get the plum wine, but this time I tried the Nigiri , which is rice wine mixed sake unfiltered, which I really liked. My wife tried their sake margaritas We ordered some shrimp Gyoza, which were delicious. We then ordered some rolls to share. We try to order different rolls everytime we come. This last time we had the Funky roll, Spicy Crunchy Dragon roll and the Screaming O (this one we have had before and really like) and the baked eel. We also got some Thai donuts to satisfy my sweet tooth. There were about 6 thai donuts sprinkled with powdered sugar and it came with a chocolate and vanilla dipping sauce. Just enough sweet for me. We will definitely continue to come to Shibui. We would like to try some of their dinners in the future because they sound delicious as well. read more

I ordered a rainbow roll and a tuna sushi sandwich and it came to about $35 and boy was it worth it. The portion size of the rainbow roll hit the spot. Usually I feel like restaurants skimp out with the size of the fish topping but not here! I wanted to try something new with the tuna sushi sandwich and was pleasantly surprised, they're shaped in triangles and come in 8 pieces. They will fill you up so make sure you've got an appetite (or you'll have some delicious leftovers). Also, they were very cautious with the measure they took. They brought the food out, wearing masks and gloves, and take your payment through your car window. They nailed it! read more

If you want the experience to sit on the floor this would be the place however let me warn you it's uncomfortable. Not too happy with the reservation process and the restaurant charges a tourist charge in a neighborhood that is not in a tourist area. When I was 8 years old, my mom asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday. Being the adventurous eater that I am, I quickly decided I wanted to have a sushi birthday party at Shibui. It's where I learned to use chopsticks, and its where my love of sushi really began. Fast forward to 20 years later and Shibui is still the sushi institution that my 8-year-old self deemed it to be. The place is classic, and the sushi is as fresh as it comes. My personal favorite thing to do is to dine seated on the floor upstairs. Really unique experience and great service. All the rolls are good, but my two favorites are the Screaming O and Volcano Roll. This restaurant has stayed consistently great, so I would recommend a reservation. read more

This evening, I had the delight of sitting on the floor and eating sushi (definitely much more fun than it sounds). Shibui was an awesome experience, from start to finish! Our waitress was extra attentive and I failed to get her name but she went out of her way to make sure we were ordering something we would enjoy. She let us sample a little of the sake before ultimately choosing the sake tuyu (spot on description, because it was just like a margarita!), while my friend got the mango margarita sake (on the sweeter side). Both were light and delicious! I had the clear soup to start, which was a neutral appetizer. I enjoyed it enough. To follow, I had the spicy tuna with kimchi, my usual order. While I have tried this roll at various places, Shibui gives a good portion, with large, FRESH, rolls. A+ rolls right here! I have been coming to Shibui for many years, but this is my first time reviewing it on Yelp. It is the only Japanese restaurant that my family and I will gladly keep ordering from without ever getting tired of it. Sure the parking and the restaurant itself may be small and get cramped at times, but the authenticity and flavor of their food are second to none. The layout of Shibui is one of the most interesting parts of the restaurant. The first floor is traditional table-and-chair seating while the second floor has Japanese-style seating where you sit on a mat. Most Japanese restaurants in Miami do not offer this style of seating. Shibui's menu has a wide variety of traditional Japanese fare. My family and I always get sushi, which we have deemed as "the best sushi in Miami." If you are interested in simpler rolls, I would highly suggest the spicy tuna roll (with red sauce instead of spicy mayo) or the salmon skin roll if you're into salmon. Both feature freshly-cut fish along with creamy avocado, crispy scallions, and succulent cucumber. If you want to try some of their more-extravagant sushi rolls, then I would very much recommend the spicy dragon and screaming o rolls. Both feature an assortment of toppings along with their fresh seafood. The spicy dragon roll is my personal favorite roll since it has shrimp tempura, avocado, and crabmeat salad topped with a generous serving of spicy mayo. This sushi roll is unlike any sushi I have had in other places; this combination is so decadent, I cannot stop giving it praise. Now if you're into salmon, then the screaming o is definitely for you. The combination of salmon with mixed conch and Masago is absolutely unreal. I don't have too much to say about their non-sushi dishes, but their salmon teriyaki is always cooked to perfection and is served with a side of rice and soup or salad. Shibui is a place I can always go back to. I have yet to have a poor experience here and will continue to return here. The atmosphere and ambiance is so realizing. All of the bamboo around you makes you feel like you have been transported. The food was good. We started off with the sampler, the wings were too hard for my taste, there was something friend that was not very appetizing but there eggplant was absolutely delicious. I had the stir fry and it was not bad, meat wasn't as tender as I would have hoped. My husband had a ramen and it was well made and tasty. Our friends had si hi, they did complain a bit that the rolls were very large to fit into one bite other than that de luscious. You can sit low on a pillow or at a regular table. The food is quite authentic to what Ive had in Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo. They offer deep fried to fresh sushi. So good! This is gem hidden where you would least expect it. We found this spot and I'm so glad I now have a fav sushi restaurant in Miami. The restaurant was so full when we got there and It was mostly recurring clients so it let me know that it was going to be a great experience. We sat upstairs where you sit on the floor which I loved, you honestly forget you're in the middle of Miami and the vibe was fantastic. The server was incredibly nice even though she had a lot of tables. We got shrimp fried gyoza , the Phoenix roll (must try, spicy jalapeño 12/10) , the tuna sandwiches, dragon roll and coconut roll.
