The challah bread is out of this world - sorry didn't snap a photo - but this traditional Romanian custard pastry is even better! I could not believe this existed in south Florida! I was surprised that the wait in line wasn't that bad. There was a security guard who directed me around the parking lot instead of being able to go straight. My ID was checked and they asked that I put down my back window so they could see inside my car for security purposes. I wasn't aware that there was a graduation going on. I had never been to Bagel Boss so I didn't know where it was. I was concerned that there wouldn't be parking so I asked the security guard about it. He was very nice and told me that he didn't know if there would be parking since there was a graduation going on but said that if I couldn't find parking, I could pull up next to the building since I would only be a few minutes. Luckily, there were a couple of open spots. I had to present my ID again when I got inside. Once you get inside, Bagel Boss is to your right. They had shelves filled with bagels and a lady was filling the display case with muffins and cookies. They didn't have descriptions of the bagels so I'm guessing as to what I got: Pumpernickel, Everything, Plain, Cinnamon Raisin, Chocolate Chip, Sesame & Onion (2). When you order through the TooGoodToGo App, it's a surprise as what you will get. I got 9 bagels for a total of $6.41! The guy who helped me told me that I could wrap the bagels in Saran Wrap and put them in the freezer; then when I'm ready to have one, I can just pop it in the toaster. I would slice the bagels before freezing them. I had the Cinnamon Raisin Bagel the next day (after it had been in the freezer). After it was toasted, it was light and crispy. I can't wait to try the other flavors!

I have been getting bagels from Flakowitz for the last eleven years. I have been very happy with them. 2. I looked at the Bagel Boss bagels and they look like they were machine made. Flakowitz looks like they are hand made. 3. Flakowitz looks larger but the Bagel Bosses is heavier. 4. The taste is very similar and both taste good. 5. Flakowitz bagels are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are easy to chew. They are easy to chew. Bagel Boss bagels are very chewy on the outside and soft and a little chewy on the inside. They are very hard to swallow. They are also more expensive. They are Kosher which is a good thing. We don't keep Kosher. Therefore: I will stay with Flakowitz bagels instead of Bagel Boss.

The inside resembled a french bakery but not sure if that was their intent. Beautiful display of muffins, croissants and custom chocolate pastries. The barista was friendly and prepared my Kimbo Italian medium roast espresso. Presented in a mini shot cup with the Kimbo name imprinted. A New River Cafe logo stamp on the cup would be a nice touch and an inexpensive marketing tool. Lots of awning covered tables and cushioned seating which I took advantage of with my espresso peering at the yachts pass by. A great tasting coffee blend with million dollar views.

When you want a combo platter of Mediterranean dips like tahini (ground sesame seed paste), baba…read moreganoush (smoked eggplant and tahini) and hummus (pureed garbanzo beans, tahini, garlic, lemon, olive oil and sumac) you likely go to a restaurant. That's because most people don't make these at home and supermarkets don't sell anything worth buying. This is why you go to Pita Pan - or at least I do! I recently stopped in to get these dips and garlicy sliced beets, Moroccan eggplant dip, sliced red cabbage and olives. They have a refrigerated case near the entry door that has short and tall clear square containers of these and more. The top of the counter has platters of fresh bourekas (small puff pastry pies filled with veggies and/or meats). So as soon as you walk in, your imagination has you consuming a variety of deliciousness! But don't stop there - go to the back of this small store and pick up a fresh pack of pita bread. Often I see steam in the plastic bags because this store bakes the pita! They also have spice-topped pita (zaatar - sesame seed, sumac and thyme) and pita chips too. I usually have to stop myself from getting more packs - why freeze them when I can just stop by and get more fresh bread? Especially because nothing is better than dragging a torn piece of fresh, soft pita across a mound of baba ganoush! I tried the popular Bamba peanut flavored puffs from this store a while ago and was hooked for months. They keep the Bamba next to the bread - don't say I didn't warn you that they are beyond addictive. They offer dry goods and freezer entrees too. I prefer to buy fresh so I haven't purchased their frozen foods. They have baked goods in containers but they haven't baked them and I don't need a big container of cookies, alone with me on the ride home, so I haven't purchased them. I'm happy with their dips, salads and bread. And their warm, welcoming greeting each time I stop by. The owner is a very kind man and the people in the shop have similar demeanor. I like shopping here and love their food.
