I don't get massages from chair salons in the Mall of America. But I was under a lot of pressure and my back and neck were acting up from work. I originally just wanted 20 minutes, but after the 20 minutes, the guy said you are so tight you should get 40 minutes. I said another 10 minutes would be it. It was the Holidays time so I was okay you are working trying to make a living in MN winter. First of all I have had deep tissue massage, so it can be a bit painful, but the guy was really bad. As others have mentioned, the masseur tried to pressure me into leaving a BIGGER tip. He literally pulled out a calculator, calculated 20% of the total. It was the Holidays...but I was really stupid. I considered coming here for a while, my usual jaunt to Mystic Lake Spa being unavailable due to Covid-19. I was hesitant getting a massage in a public setting but I did something painful to my neck so I desperately made a trip to Shiatsu Renu. I wasn't disappointed. I asked for the 20 minute massage but somehow got talked into the hour long Complete Retreat II. There is definitely a language barrier as noted in other reviews so I didn't know what I agreed to but I decided not to doubt the masseur's expertise. I let him do his magic and did he ever! I can't say it was pain free, but I was already suffering and he performed a miracle. I was sorely tense on my entire left side from my head to my hip, how I got that way is a mystery. All I know is that I could barely move my neck before I got there but by the time I left I was loose as creamed corn. I'm convinced 20 minutes wouldn't have done the trick lol. Totally worth the hour's pay in my book! I also read in previous reviews about being pressured to leave a tip. I didn't experience that but definitely paid gratitude for a job well done. I agree it's not professional to be asking outright for a tip, but please keep in mind that if you do go that those working to service others (especially now) have families to support and your generosity goes a long way. I assure you that I got what I paid for! Bottom line: we're all stressed to the max over this and that, on top of the pandemic. If you're a mother like me, you might be carrying a lot of mom guilt. Or you're balancing working from home while taking care of yourself and your family. Or concerned about loved ones you haven't seen in long time. My husband and I each had a 1 hour table massage $69 each. He enjoyed his, the guy who did mine stayed on his cell which was very rude. When we went to pay, my husband was leaving a 15% tip, the guy that did mine, pointed to the taxed total and took a calculator and showed him it should be more! I thought it was very rude. Honestly! Best massage ever! My toddler fell asleep in his stroller, so I was able to go on. I thought, when do I ever go for a massage?! You have to schedule, get a sitter, then show up. This seemed like the right place at the right time! The massage was amazing! The lady spoke very little English which is the best. I hate when the massage therapists try to make conversation while getting a massage. She applied excellent pressure. I had the massage only for 30 minutes because it kind of got annoying that the guys were standing outside and screaming and asking people if they want a massage. This is a new massage place in the Mall of America. The old one is more expensive and not too good. This place has the traditional language barrier that some Asian massage places have. I suggest using a few key words. I have used them a couple of times and they have been very good. The last time that I was there I paid more for the oil and hot oil massage which was very good. I already left a tip, but she aggressively said "20 percent" several times while looking and pointing at the amount. Also, they ask if you want a foot massage while you're still on the table, but apparentlyat the end of the massage. I'm a personal trainer and have had several massages when it comes to recovery. This by far was THE Worst massage I've ever had. I went with my friend and this was her first massage ever. We wanted 30 min but were pushed into an hour session. The massage therapist she had was coughing all over her and spent the entire time on her left side, then stated "we need to do a hour to get the other side." When she went home her entire left shoulder blade was bruised. The massage therapist I had tried to get me to take my sweatshirt off and would give inappropriate touches on the inside of my legs to adjust the towel on top of me. And spent majority of the time on my glutes. I also have severe low back issues and my person pushed directly on my lumbar spine (even after telling him he needed to move on to something else or lighten the pressure) and aggravated the injury to the point it feels tender to bend over or stand for extended periods of time. When it came time to pay, the massage therapist my friend had, she was given the receipt and she didn't want to give a tip. He pushed the receipt back to her and stated "tip. You need to tip." I got the lady and she used her elbows and talked to her coworker half the time, and my mom got one of the guys that hardly massaged her! Several years ago a female massage worker at this business had really helped me on two separate occasions when I was experiencing tightness and tension in neck and shoulder. 15 to 20 minutes was all it took. A week ago I returned to this business when I had same neck tension. A male did the massage. I did not have a good experience at all, and one week later, am still tight and sore in my neck. Not only did he insist on longer than 20 minutes, and hurt me during massage with way too much pressure, I felt traumatized when he aggressively hyperextended my neck to the left and right at the end of massage. I have been sore and swollen for a week now. I will never return. read more

I thought this would feel so good for my neck and back which always gives me problems; I woke up on Saturday, April 17 and my back, neck and even butt are so very sore. I have gone to this Shiatsu Renu more than once hoping that each time my experience may get better. The young lady I saw the last few times was ok, but I left with pain as they use the elbows to dig into your back. Today I thought I would try again as a Christmas gift to myself and boy I definitely should have kept walking. I had a different person which was so rough, and the experience was painful she rubbed the same areas until it felt like I could scream because of the areas she kept putting her elbow in. for part of my massage she walked away and washed the stones which took time from my service, I figured this was something she could have done once complete with my service. I paid with cash, and she handed me back my change and I did not notice she took out five for herself, I had already had a tip in my hand which was five dollars and she screamed this is not enough. Had it been a good massage maybe I would have tipped more? so I gave her two extra dollars. This was five she took from me with an a additional seven I willingly gave and still told me this was not enough. I was not the only one that went through this as I heard another employee saying this to another customer while I laid down. I used to recommend this massage store to my friends many times but won't anymore. I went there a month ago, 5 to 6 clients were waiting in the store, plus their existing customers that's 10 to 11 total which is too much more than maximum number and there's no 6 feet safe distance for sure. I came back after an hour, a tall old thin therapist asked me how long for the massage, I said either 30 mins or 60 mins whenever it's good for that busy time. He started with one hour massage, when it's getting busier, he asked me to change to 30 mins which I felt unprofessional but said nothing, I agreed with that and still tip him. Yesterday I went there again, there's no client when I got there. It's same tall thin guy's turn, I started with 30 mins, I asked him how long left when it's almost done, he said 2 mins. I asked to add 10 mins for my shoulder, when it's almost finished, I asked if I could add foot massage for 20 mins, he said ok. When all done, I felt relaxing a lot and would tip him $20. However, he told me my total time is 70 mins which is 50 mins back and 20 mins foot that's 10 more mins than what I got. This business is so unprofessional and defrauding. He didn't understand me, even after getting out his phone translator. Not that he should've needed it - if someone repeatedly interrupts you when you're giving them a massage, you might wanna do something different. Ended up wasting $27 and 20 minutes of my time.
