We had a large set of kitchen cabinets built. All of it used finished maple for the cabinet bodies, with real cherry wood for the front face frames. Drawers used soft-close runners and doors used high-quality Euro-style cabinet hinges. The owner, Thomas Yan, was very accommodating to design changes for our cabinets, and charged us only for materials to fix some damage we caused during installation. There were some problems; two of the cabinets weren't built as we specified, but Kin's Cabinet made structural modifications without argument. We plan to have them build a china cabinet for us after we finish designing it. One other thing: Don't order cabinets and expect them to be done the same week. The shop is quite busy with many orders, and custom-built cabinets take time. Plan ahead, and give them enough time to do the job right.

My original cabinet guy walked out of my project and left me hanging. Because of this, I was approx 6-8 weeks behind on my project. When I met Thomas, I raised this concern to him and he promised me that they will work as hard as they can to help me catch up. Thomas has always been VERY responsive to my questions and needs. I am a photographer and I have an eye with details ... I mean, REALLL details. I know working with me may not be the easiest. Thomas took on the challenge and delivered the very first piece 2 weeks after we met. The work on this piece was good (not yet great) and I pointed out the imperfections that I saw and Thomas was open to suggestions and took my suggestions to heart and had the imperfections fixed. The next few weeks, Thomas worked diligently to get me all of my cabinets (pretty much whole house). He delivered them piece by piece. Thomas worked with my schedule and my other contractors to ensure everything is to my liking. We ran into a boo boo one of the last few installs. The install was not to my standard and I voiced this to Thomas. He understood where I was coming from and he even agreed. Without question, he came back the following week and brought along another installer which fixed all of the "not so good" finishes. I said enough. IF you value customer service, use Kin's. If you are a picky person like me and appreciate someone that will listen to your needs, call Thomas now!

I'm sure we all feel like that to some degree...wanting the most for our money and trying to get the best value, etc. Over the years, I've learned a few things when it comes to hiring contractors and one of the pitfalls is hiring a contractor who sub-contracts out. This might save you some money, but in the long run it's harder to manage the quality of the work and materials when the job is based on the "lowest bidder" mentality. It will cost you in the end. I found Norm through a friend's referral and he and his partner, Brian, do all of the work. There's a great deal of security when you can talk to the person who is actually responsible and accountable for the work. There's also something to be said for a group of guys who pay attention to the details. The job started off as re-siding the exterior of my house, then grew to include new roofing, replacement of my attic insulation (which was no easy task considering it's only a crawl space), and the building of a custom wall with columns. He even offered some lighting suggestions to make the driveway area more contemporary and helped me to replace my water heater when they noticed that the last owner did something ill-advised to the main water pipe which caused rust to get into my water tank. And just when I thought we were done, they helped me to run my TV cable in a way such that it couldn't be seen from the exterior. Throughout the entire process, Norm and Brian offered lots of useful suggestions and accompanied me to look at various materials. All in all, it was an excellent customer experience. I can't speak highly enough about these guys.
