The shop sits next door to LePeep, so after LePeeps, take a second to pop in. I am so excited for Brooke who continues to make her dreams come true. She started painting furniture in her home, and now her business has grown into this beautiful shop. Brooke still paints furniture if you are considering updating an item. She painted a small cupboard for me and did a nice job. The shop is filled with gift items, home decor from furniture to soy candles, vases, greenery, pottery, mirrors, table lamps to floor lamps, Artisan tea towels, wooden lazy susan, artisan dessert plates to framed watercolors to name a just a few items. They even carry a few gifts for a new baby. You can purchase an adorable, sweet swaddling blanket and a precious "My First Snuggled Bunny." To cute!! I was surprised to find the ever popular Taylor Swift designs with tee shirts, stickers for a phone, cooler, notebook, or laptop. As you can imagine, they sell out fast. If you are interested in Indy 500 decor, then you most likely have seen Justin Patten's artwork. His cavased printed artwork comes ready to frame. I received one as a gift from folks staying at my home, and we love it.

My Husband & I bought a new $2,000 Craftsman Riding Lawn Mower from the West 10th Street Lowe's…read morethis month and, while we absolutely LOVE our Mower, their Customer Service was VERY disappointing! The BEST things about this Store is that they are a large enough retailer to carry this brand at reasonable prices; their website is really easy to navigate; and, their local Delivery Representative, Charles, was a TRUE professional! Charles, unlike the rest of the Associates I spoke with, was polite, professional, on time, empathetic and, most importantly, showed INTEGRITY by personally calling back the following day to help correct the "wrong" made by the Store's delivery schedule and the condition of our Mower. You see... The 1st problem occurred when I ordered our Mower online. The site offered me the option for the time of delivery, for which I chose 12n-4p. In response, my Husband & I both took time off to be available specifically during that period. I even called that morning to confirm our delivery, for which a Lady assured me that our Mower had just been loaded & would be here as promised. At a quarter to 4p, I called back to check on the status of our delivery. I was kept on-hold for such a long period of time that I hung up & called back twice. By the time I finally reached someone, a Man answered & said that our Mower had just been loaded & was out for delivery... just like the Lady had claimed earlier that morning! I explained that my Husband & I had already cleared our scheduled from 12n-4p waiting for our Mower, and it was almost 5p then. That's when the Man explained that the delivery schedule was actually 8a-8p, not the 12n-4p option that was offered to us online. I was livid! He assured me that, since we were just 2 Exits from the Store, the Driver should be there in less than 20 minutes. He even offered to call the Driver while we stayed on the line. As luck would have it, we were disconnected as he tried to put me on-hold & the phone continued ringing, with no answer, the 2 times I tried calling back! (Btw, he had our information right in front of him & he could have called me back; but, he never did!) Now we come to the 2nd problem which occurred when our Mower was finally delivered at 7p!!! When the Driver (Charles) unloaded the Mower, my Husband noticed that the key was already in the ignition & that the ignition was in the "On" position. He expressed concerned & soon realized that the Mower was loaded with a COMPLETELY DEAD BATTERY!! With everything that we had already gone through, my Husband was pretty upset. But, Charles was so understanding, apologetic & such a WONDERFUL ambassador for the Company that my Husband agreed to accept the Mower on the condition that he'd use our own charger for the battery. And, if that didn't work, Lowe's would have to make it right the next day. Charles agreed. I called the Store to tell them what happened & all the Lady I spoke with said was, "Oh, I'm sorry." Thank GOD the 10th Street Store has at least ONE Associate (Charles) who knows what TRUE Customer Service is all about! He even called me back the following day to personally check to make sure that our battery took a charge, to apologize for our less-than-pleasant experience & to assure us that he would have personally brought us a new battery, if necessary... How refreshing!!

On thing I'll say is that all the Lowe's locations are consistently bad. Waiting in line while…read moreother employees are literally sitting on counters.

I will admit that I lean toward the positive when it comes to new businesses. However, I definitely…read moreconsider myself a fan of Ace Hardware and anxiously eyed the opening of this latest location within the Benge's Ace Hardware family - Benge also has locations in Westfield, Carmel, Greenwood, on Five Points, on County Line Road, and that fun little spot on Arlington that used to be the Arlington Theatre (I still miss that place). This spot, of course, is located just inside Butler-Tarkington in the spot previously held by the short-lived Happy Brewery. They weren't happy very long. I wondered what would eventually claim this spot. I'll admit I was surprised to find out it would be a hardware store considering a long existing one across the street had closed down a few years back. However, Benge's is off and running with a soft opening this week followed by a "Grand Opening" this Labor Day weekend. Benge's carries the usual hardware store variety of items - tools, paint/supplies, lawn/garden, heating/cooling, home/decor, building supplies, hardware, grills/smokers, storage, plumbing, lighting/electrical, and even a bit of automotive type stuff. As they are still in a very soft opening, there's some working out the kinks of operations. People are friendly, helpful, and the story itself is bright, new, shiny, and well organized with aisles that are definitely wheelchair friendly. I've historically found Ace to be a disability friendly chain and this location is no different. I also discovered they have their own brand of bird seed - I've become quite fond of taking care of the birds in my yard and I'm excited to find decent bird seed at a good price fairly close to home. I don't think I ever realized how big this space is, however, I was quite impressed (and a little surprised) by the selection. I plan to return during the Labor Day weekend (good sales going on) and have no doubt this will become a regular stop as this is directly on my way home from work. They're also open seven days a week. While Happy Brewing had kept the space pretty intimate, Ace has really opened it up and brightened it up. While I'm glad I got this initial sneak peek, I'm anxious to return and welcome this new business to the Butler-Tarkington area.
