Equity Remodeling in Carmel recently completed shower build out/tile work at my house and the finished results look good. However, the experience had some challenges.
The quoting process was vague with minimal details requiring many rounds of back and forth with my continued involvement throughout the project. Then an unexpected increase in the quoted price at completion.
When I conducted a standard punch list walkthrough after tile was installed - politely identifying cracked tiles, grout voids and alignment issues - the business owner became verbally hostile. Accused me of 'nickel and diming him'. My legitimate quality concerns were met with hostility instead of professionalism.
Due to the hostility, I ended up completing a decent amount of finishing work myself - grout void fills, caulk gap touchups and cleanup work. I counted over 30 gaps in the caulk lines which would have resulted in water penetrating behind the tile if not fixed.
In the end, the shower looks nice and will hopefully last for years. But the process required more oversight, personal labor and conflict than should be expected when hiring a professional contractor. read more
