Excellent Prices and Outstanding Service at PARR Lumber I…read morehave been purchasing materials from PARR Lumber for the past 20 years for various projects around my home. My most recent purchases included composite decking, as well as pressure-treated lumber for a deck project. One thing I have noticed over the years is that many homeowners with larger projects may not realize how competitive PARR Lumber's prices can be compared with the big-box home improvement stores. For example, on my recent purchase: * 2x8x16' pressure-treated lumber: Box store -- $35.48 vs. PARR Lumber -- $32.88 * 2x6x16' pressure-treated lumber: Box store -- $26.28 vs. PARR Lumber -- $23.83 I found similar savings when purchasing composite decking. Price, however, is only part of the reason I am changing where I purchase my lumber. In the past, I have made several large lumber purchases from big-box stores and had the materials pulled by their employees. When I arrived to pick up my order, I frequently had to wait 45 minutes to over an hour in the loading area. I was often told at the front desk that someone would be out to load my materials in about 15 minutes. More often than not, I eventually had to call the front desk from my truck to find out when someone would be coming. My last two experiences at PARR Lumber in Hillsboro were completely different. For my most recent order, I called ahead and had my materials placed in Will Call. When I arrived, I paid for my order and then proceeded to the loading area. There were at least four vehicles ahead of me waiting to enter the yard, yet I waited only about 10 minutes before entering. Once inside, I immediately noticed how efficiently the yard personnel were working to pull and load materials. When it was my turn, I explained to the employee pulling my order that the lumber was going to be used for deck joists and that I needed relatively straight boards. He told me he would bring the materials out and that we could sort through them together. The majority of the lumber he brought out was good quality, so very little sorting was necessary. I was especially impressed with his professionalism, courtesy, and genuine willingness to make sure I was satisfied with my purchase. Overall, I have noticed significant improvements in efficiency and customer service at the Hillsboro PARR Lumber. My recent experiences have changed my opinion about where to purchase lumber for larger projects. I am now choosing PARR Lumber over the big-box stores for my lumber purchases. The competitive pricing, quality of the materials, and--just as importantly--the efficiency and customer service make PARR Lumber a much better choice for my projects. Highly recommended!

I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to house maintenance…read more We had to repaint a bedroom wall and so I came here since they sell the paint I needed and the old paint can listed their SE location. First visit, I ordered online, the cashier told me to just call them next time since purchasing online cost more (not exactly sure about that, haven't compared prices). Then I went back for more paint because... I don't know what I'm doing and wasted a lot of paint. The 2nd time around, I asked many more questions and asked for tips. I was also trying to coordinate with my partner over the phone while in store with an employee helping me. - The employee so patient and understanding with me being on the phone. They then proved their patience with me going to my car and coming back inside THREE TIMES with more questions. Prices are reasonable, the tools sold there are about the same price as Ace Hardware. The employees are super nice and so very helpful. They had recommendations and answers for everything. There was no pressure to buy more or go for the more expensive option. They had tools that were on the price spectrum, there were cheaper options, midgrade and more expensive. They pointed out each tool, gave their rec and left it up to me to decide. I love that I can buy paint AND materials without feeling like I paid extra for materials because of the convenience. They get busy but they are also well staffed and take their time with customers. I never had to wait more than a few minutes. They also have some Spanish speaking staff and it sounded like they have good relationships with their Spanish speaking customers. Here's what I learned: -One quart of paint technically covers about 100 ft², but in reality, probably more like 60 to 80 ft², especially considering if you don't know what you're doing. My first mistake - getting one quart, 2nd visit, I definitely got the full size can. -After you're done painting use the rollers to go all in one direction one last time to avoid seeing any strokes. Stick with a matte color to especially avoid seeing any strokes. -If you're repainting a wall, it's best to paint the entire wall otherwise you might see the old paint versus the new.

This is NOT a good place to buy anything that your life depends on... like lifts, jack stands, ramps and so on. Also not a good place to buy if you are looking for professional grade, precision items. I've been wrenching since I was a wiener so I know the value of tools that can be dual-purposed as pry-bars and sledge hammers. I have a fair number of crappy tools that have served me well for the purposes that I needed them to. I also have a fair number of tools that came from Snap-on, Craftsman and suppliers like those. A cheapo socket set? A set of drift pins? Yep, this is the place. A precision torque wrench that will get a lot of use? Maybe not so much. The employees at these places are usually low quality just like the merchandise. I don't mean this as a slam. You're going there to save money right? Not to have a great customer experience, get great advice and walk out with high quality tools at prices that are in the stratosphere. If the cashier even looks at you and acknowledges your presence you should feel lucky. Most of the time the employees are so totally indifferent to you that they will actually turn around and walk the other way if you look like you are going to ask them a question. I've been to this particular store many (MANY) times and this is one reliable constant here. They typically have on one cashier on duty and a line of many customers. And that one cashier has only one speed.... s-l-o-w! I'm going to guess that HF doesn't pay very well so attracting good employees probably isn't on the corporate radar. Not every project requires top-of-the-line tools to accomplish. I do a lot of repairs that only require a tool that works, not necessarily a tool that would work well in daily use. So in that regard, HF fulfills it's purpose and most of us don't have the disposable funds to be buying the best possible tool if it's only going to be used rarely. HF is popular with professional mechanics so perfectly serviceable equipment can be had here at low prices. You just need to know how to spot quality vs junk. Hence the 4 stars for fulfilling a needed service. If I was to grade the staff, it would be a solid one star and that would be generous.

David: 5/5 - Exceptional Salome: 5/5 - Exceptional…read moreStacey (Owner/President): 1/5 - Extremely disappointing Overall: 3/5 I really wanted to like Clark Lumber, and after my first visit I absolutely did. On August 18 2026, I purchased approximately $473 worth of materials for a project. David and Salome were outstanding. They were friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely went above and beyond to help me get what I needed. The products were excellent as well. I left that day thinking this is exactly why I like supporting a local business instead of automatically going to a big-box store. During that purchase I also ordered copper caps for my 6x6 posts. I later received a text letting me know they were ready, so I returned to the store to pick them up, arriving approximately 20 minutes before closing. Unfortunately, this second visit couldn't have been more different. Stacey was working at the register. From the moment I walked in, the interaction felt cold. There wasn't even a greeting until I initiated one myself. When I explained that I was there to pick up the copper caps, I was told I needed to pay for them. I explained that I had been under the impression they were included with the purchase I had already made. To be clear, I have no problem whatsoever with there being confusion about whether something had been paid for. Mistakes and misunderstandings happen in every business. What bothered me was the way the situation was handled. Rather than feeling like, "No problem, let's pull up your transaction and figure this out," I felt like my question was irritating and that I was inconveniencing the person behind the counter. I didn't have my paper receipt with me. Eventually, after showing the amount and date of the transaction on my credit card, the original invoice was located and printed. But even while trying to resolve what was really a very simple issue, the interaction continued to feel annoyed and unfriendly rather than solution-oriented. I later learned that Stacey is the owner/president of Clark Lumber, which honestly made the experience more disappointing, not less. That contrast is what stands out to me most. David and Salome made me want to become a repeat customer. The owner made me question whether I ever want to return. I don't think it would be fair to give the entire business one star because the employees I dealt with previously were exceptional and the products were very good. That's why I'm giving three stars overall. But customer experience matters, particularly when it comes from the person at the top of the company. A billing misunderstanding doesn't have to cost a business a customer. How you make that customer feel while resolving it absolutely can.
