This is an old school hardware store that has more actual hardware than you'll find elsewhere in…read moreBloomington. They do everything from keys (including "digital chip" key clones) to vast amounts of nuts and bolts, SAE and metric, tools, supplies, home/industrial hardware. They are not Grainger or Lee's. They are not Lowes or Menards. Their prices are sometimes high, but they don't sell cheap gear. I wished they'd sell lumber and plants, but maybe it's better that they don't. They get five stars for being the best HARDWARE store in the area. You don't have to buy a huge blister pack to get just one or two of an item. Their clerks know what they have, and it's a good idea to ask them. They sometimes have better alternatives in mind, and their selection is vast for the size store they operate; they can save you a lot of time, unlike the big box stores, where there are no real specialists except the Big Item sales people. Luckily, the previous owner of the home had kept cans of paint (and labeled them by room!) from the last time the house had been spruced up. I grabbed the can for the room needing some love and headed to my local Porter Paints to get what I needed. The store itself, located at the corner of Breckenridge Ln and Willis Ave, is clean, well-organized, and a great place to find home improvement inspiration. While not as large as a home improvement megastore, the location had everything you might need to give your home a professional-looking paint job. The staff was very friendly, and - using the can I had brought in - were able to match the paint I bought to the can the previous owner had left. It took just about 2 minutes for my can of paint to be ready and for me to be back on my way to improving the look of my home.
