This might sound crazy, but the best meal I had in Portugal was at Yak and Yeti. After days of…read moreeating heavy, salty and warm (not hot) food, we wanted something hot and with more spices. Those who love hot (temperature) food and have been in Portugal will understand what I am talking about. Saw this place and decided to give it a try. We were a party of 6 and very hungry so we ordered the fried momos, chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, rogan chicken, pork chow mein, chicken biryani and the regular and garlic naan. The staff was super friendly and the food came out quick. Every single dish was amazing! Exactly what we wanted, perfect amount of spice. My favorite dishes were the rogan chicken and the chicken biryani. Definitely a must in Lisbon! We kept talking about the meal even after coming back to the U.S. You will not be disappointed, highly recommended!

Didn't really expect to find a Nepalese restaurant in the Alfama district within Lisbon. But since…read moresome members of our group were really craving spice, we ended up here. It's a relatively small place with only a few tables. I had the Mushroom 65. I should start with the fact that they absolutely delivered on the spice levels. I asked for mine four-star, and this was the perfect level of hot - enough to feel the spice but not so much that it's actively painful. The mushrooms are cooked very well, and remain quite crispy. I'm happy to report the curry, which I also tried, retains the same level of spice. The downside of this place is the amount of oil used is just way too excessive. It amalgamates and pools at the bottom of the container, no matter what the dish is. This contributes to the flavor but only to a certain amount. The portions are pretty large for the relatively cheap prices. Overall, this is a pretty decent spot for a very different style of food. 8/10

It is located on a side street which might be easy to walk past, but this place deserves all of the accolades and compliments! Inside, it may seem like a quiet, peaceful restaurant with dinner lighting, wooden furniture and Nepali decorations, but it's definitely providing a top tier food experience. It is run by a Nepali family who are bringing the best Nepali dishes for us to try here in Portugal. They are also very sweet, patient, attentive and showed so much appreciation as well. As an Indian, I didn't know what to expect with the spice level of the food and if it would be toned down. However, I was very impressed! Each spicy dish brings out the heat and you can also choose your preference for how you prefer your spice level. We started with onion bhaji as an appetizer which was on the house and it blew me away! It has a crunchy texture, which doesn't shy away with the slices of onion and the spices that add up to a salty, spicy and delicious bite! I highly recommend dipping it into the chutneys offered - there are 3 kinds, which consist of tamarind, chili, and mint. Just a heads up, the chili-based chutney was very spicy but perfect for the heat lovers! We also tried the chicken momos, which are paired with a lentil-based sauce. These were filled to the brim with the meat, which was seasoned perfectly, and the dough was the right texture and consistency. For our main course, we tried the matar paneer, which is peas with house made paneer cheese in a deliciously spicy sauce, and the Himalayan shahi korma which has tender pieces of lamb that are stewed in a flavorful sauce of dried fruit, cream, tomato, cashew and cilantro. These curries come with basmati rice on the side as well. This was my first time trying these Nepali dishes and I was blown away by how delicious they are! You can taste the various spices, ginger, garlic which all marry well together. Overall, Everest Montanha deserves all the love and support so come and check it out if you want an amazing meal in Lisbon!

Well, I found one! Get ready to have your socks blown off! This is the stop you too have been searching for. Located an a quiet side street is the best Nepalese food you might find in Lisbon. Extremely small, limited seating, and extremely kind service will have you ooohing and awwwwing like me. So much so, I ended up ordering way too much food because I wanted to try a ton of items. I ended up with the butter chicken, garlic and cheese naan, and some fried pork buns and the best coffee I have had in a very long time. This is worth a short trip north to get out of the city center. Prepare your stomach to be stuffed with some of the best Nepalese food of your life. Big statement, I know, true statement, you bet.

After seeing…read moreseveral "Nepalese" style restaurants on our Lisbon excursion (to my surprise/delight), I was pumped to get some of this food. On our way out of the city, we stumbled across this little gem near the Alameda Metro spot and the Parque Fonte Luminosa! After walking around Lisbon during the early hours of the day I worked up quite the appetite ;-) This authentic spot really satisfied my yearning for Nepalese food and left me wanting to try everything! I descended the few steps into this cute little establishment and was greeted by a very lovely Nepalese native. She spoke English and was able to answer my questions. Because of time constraints, I ordered the food "for take away". The plato do dia was a great option for during and included the entree with rice, a bottled cooler drink (wide selection), and (a strong enough to out hair on your chest) coffee for €6.50. There were four options: a chicken mango dish, a shrimp curry dish, vegetable korma dish, and tandoori chicken. All sounded intriguing but I chose to have the shrimp curry HOT style. Yes, you can adjust your spice preference here which I discovered much to my delight :-D The food, although quoted 12 minutes, came out in half that time. While I waited I selected my beverage from the cooler case and had the small cup of coffee that accompanied the meal--no milk and sugar on the side. After that, I was wired for the day. My meal came out piping hot and I even was able to get a plastic utensil to take (rare in Europe). I positioned the sturdy take out bag in my shoulder bag and when I got to the international bus station it was still contained in the bag which I appreciated (no leakage). When it came time to eat my meal (half an hour later) it was still warm and delicious--full of tender yet not mushy vegetables and succulent shrimp without heads or tails for me to remove (sissy style-the way I expect). The curry was red in color and had an excellent spice profile, it was hot without being overly H-O-T. Portion was a good size but left me wanting more. I would definitely revisit the Nepal Curry House next time I visit Lisbon. If I lived there, I'd be tempted to eat here 3x a week for sure! Thank you, NCH, for exceeding my expectations! :-)

So I threw on some clothes and stumbled out of my AirBnb without any ideas other than: must get food for breakfast and then food for dinner. I stopped in to what I thought was an Indian corner store and picked up some groceries. Afterwards, I saw Himchuli across the street and thought to myself, "Self... when is the next time you'll get the opportunity to eat at a Nepalese restaurant in Portugal?" And boy and I am happy I did. The food was flavorful and spicy. Not spicy-hot, but spicy-tasty. The deer meat was tender and succulent; the okra was extremely prepared; and the red wine the owner recommended was spot on. While the venue was empty, I didn't mind because it was late on a Sunday night and the owner gave me such excellent service. I cannot recommend this place enough. This will definitely be one of the many reasons I return to Portugal. This place is officially at the top of my list. Americans beware, though, neither my credit cards nor my debit cards worked. However, the owner guided me to a nearby ATM where I was able to pull out cash. And upon my return, I see the woman who helped me at the Indian corner store. It turns out she's Nepalese and she and her husband own both the restaurant and the corner store.

We decided to walk to this little gem because it was close to our apartment and we missed Indian/Nepali food. I am so so glad we did because it was one of the best meals on our entire trip. Walking up, it has a modest appearance. There is a full menu outside with an English version. Inside are several larger and a few small tables seating 2-6 people. The ambiance was cozy and warm. We chose a small table by the window to enjoy a street view. The waiter who was handling all of the tables himself was an absolute pleasure. He was accommodating, sweet and extremely polite. He offered food recommendations and brought us English menus when asked. We ordered the chicken momos, lamb curry with lentils and okra with tomato curry. We asked for everything to be extra spicy. The food took a little time to come out but everything was delicious. The momos were seasoned well, spicy and the owner(?)/waiter(?) even brought us a spice tray to add more. The dough was perfectly chewy and thick without overbearing the filling. The okra was divine. Soft, perfectly cooked okra paired with spicy and acidic tomato in an extremely aromatic potato curry. Finally, the hearty lamb. Again, the flavors were all there, with tender boneless lamb in a lentil stew that gave it a boldness not usually found in lamb curries. Multiple times, the waiter/owner checked on us but he was never overbearing. We enjoyed our dinner immensely and want to go back again ASAP even though we only have a few nights here. That's how good this place was! Must-try for all lovers of flavor.
