My boyfriend enthusiastically boasts that a pint in here in the summer is as good as you'll get. It is a nice little spot on a sunny day. The bar is also available for function hire but they don't provide much in the way of food. I was at an engagement party there and the buffet wasn't the best (although not the worst either). There's a quiz night of a Thursday and you'll more than likely meet my boyfriend's cousin Neil. He loves his quizzes and wouldn't just go anywhere, so that's as good a recommendation as I can give you. The Ivory is also a hotel but I have never stayed here so my knowledge of this side of the place is limited.

Overall, the layout and king bed are always enjoyable, but the hard floor makes for a difficult experience if you're trying to do some in-room stretching/yoga/exercising. A couple things unique to my visit in Glasgow: -During check-in, it asked me what type of room I'd like (meaning, the level/view). I chose a lower room, as it said it was a city view. This was more like a view of the building across the street on the west side of the building. But the lower room was good because... -One of the elevators wasn't working when I checked in, so being able to take stairs up to my room was something I took advantage of. -The actual spot in Glasgow I found very convenient for my purposes. I was able to walk to the university area in about 25 min, as well as over to my favorite spot (Mono/Monorail) in the same amount of time. It was also very close to the Glasgow Queen St station. So all in all, a good experience and I would definitely stay here again.

In particular, the Rump of Lamb was well executed. A nice Australian Shiraz helped it down. A good nights sleep but it would probably be better to ask for a room on the opposite side to the main road. Breakfast was a bit disappointing - as is usully the case with hot buffets, you get some items hot and some cold ! The scrambled egg was a gelatinous mass. If you wanted a fried one you had to wait. Coffee was also pretty lousy to my taste, and those pats of butter wrapped in a 'parcel', surely it wouldn't cost extra to have the 'pull off top' type . I have given four stars, but probably 3 and a half is nearer the mark because of the poor breakfast.

The location of the microwave on the first floor can be moved away from the entrance where all guests are entering/exiting. Lots of nearby eateries within 10 minutes walking distance.

It's cheapness and location were the deciding factors, I wasn't expecting too much and since we'd be out and about most of the time it wouldn't matter anyway. It was just a bed, you know? However, I was really surprised by just how lovely the place was. Clean, nicely designed, friendly staff, en suite shower, TV, wi fi, computer, tea and coffee making facilities. You're not supposed to get all that for £25.00 a night are you? Did I mention the full Scottish Breakfast buffet and free parking? A real bargain. The only really negative thing to come from the experience was setting foot back in my own flat, which is in a building structurally identical to the hotel. Staff was welcoming when I checked in. I was a bit disappointed to see that my room was overlooking a busy road but traffic wasn't that heavy in the evening time and I barely noticed the noise. My last night wasn't so memorable though as a large group of teenagers checked in... Loud noises, shouting, running in the corridor until late. I felt like I was in a hostel... Disappointed that no firm action was taken by the staff to stop the disturbances. I still give this hotel 4 stars as the room was very comfortable and spacious.
