    Haggis in Phylo

Smaller but classy and quiet. Casual enough but not a pub. Decent wine list for Scotland. Nice Albariño. Top drawer haggis in phylo and whisky sauce. Mains were fresh Scottish salmon - baked with a light cream sauce and chive and onion smashed and seared potatoes. Made on premise steak and ale pie with light pastry and chips. All in all a great meal and service that counters the impression that Brits can't make great British food.

I absolutely loved this hotel! We had a peaceful and relaxing two nights stay here in early June 2016. Our room was number 6, just up a short flight of stairs from the lobby. My favorite feature of our room was the turret, which was a small nook off to the side of the main bedroom area. They had two comfortable chairs and a table set in the turret with windows on three sides (see pics). It was absolutely glorious to sit and have a drink there just chatting with the windows open for the light breeze. One morning we also took breakfast there because we had an early start and couldn't wait for the dining room to open with their breakfast starting at 7am. A short hallway led to the bright and large bathroom with a nice long tub, separate shower, and windows all around. Don't worry, the windows all have shades you can draw. Everyone we encountered was delightful and the service they provided was top notch. This is a hotel that is definitely in the business of taking care of you and making your stay as pleasant as possible. We ordered breakfast brought up at 6:15am and there was a knock on the door on the dot. We ordered taxi's both mornings, and they showed up right on time. We came in after a long day on the Isle of Islay and the lovely woman at the front desk asked if we'd had a chance to have a bite to eat. When we said no, she offered to get a table ready for us in the restaurant for when we came back down. Their hotel restaurant serves absolutely delicious food. It was one of the best dinners we had on our entire trip. After dinner grab a drink at the bar, or take it up to your room, or outside to the lovely terrace. Relax and enjoy! The hotel is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, which we didn't mind at all. If you are looking for nightlife though, the train station is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel and a 6 minute train ride into central Glasgow. The airport is about a 15 minute drive away and will cost you a fixed price of just under £20. There are a couple of areas where I would suggest improvement: -There is no AC! This is an old house, I get that. Maybe put a fan in each room? -Wifi is kind of spotty -The bed is kind of hard, maybe add a pillow top or something? -The mirror in the bathroom is tiny, and the only outlet is for electric razors only

Sherbrooke Castle is a great place for any special occasion dinners. I had my graduation meal at Sherbrooke and was recently there for a festive dinner with my family. The portions are quite small but if you have two or three courses, you're left feeling satisfied. I loved the festive menu they put on, there was a lot of choice and we could still order from their main menu. It was £24.95 each for a three course meal which I thought was really good value. The staff are lovely and always treat you as if you're royalty. The decor inside is really nice and if you're looking for a restaurant with a real fire, look no further. There also seems to be private dining areas for larger groups and they have a conservatory which looks like it can be booked. Sherbrooke Castle Hotel looks really grand when you drive up to it and I love coming here for a treat! Next time I might even stay in the hotel!

The room itself was exactly the same. Overall, the layout and king bed are always enjoyable, but the hard floor makes for a difficult experience if you're trying to do some in-room stretching/yoga/exercising. A couple things unique to my visit in Glasgow: -During check-in, it asked me what type of room I'd like (meaning, the level/view). I chose a lower room, as it said it was a city view. This was more like a view of the building across the street on the west side of the building. But the lower room was good because... -One of the elevators wasn't working when I checked in, so being able to take stairs up to my room was something I took advantage of. -The actual spot in Glasgow I found very convenient for my purposes. I was able to walk to the university area in about 25 min, as well as over to my favorite spot (Mono/Monorail) in the same amount of time. It was also very close to the Glasgow Queen St station. So all in all, a good experience and I would definitely stay here again.

The shower area is frosted glass so your silhouette is on full show so be aware of this. The staff here are so lovely and welcoming and helpful and we had such a wonderful stay and would 100% stay again.
