A hidden gem this. Quite literally. Whilst it has an excellent location in the heart of Glasgow's west end, just a short walk from Kelvinbridge tube, it's position nestled behind some trees on Great Western Road means most locals probably don't even notice it. Granted this can make it slightly tricky to find, particularly if you're a visitor to the city. This is a minor niggle.
My mum and sister booked a room here on a recent visit. (There was genuinely no room at my place, honest.) It's cheapness and location were the deciding factors, I wasn't expecting too much and since we'd be out and about most of the time it wouldn't matter anyway. It was just a bed, you know?
However, I was really surprised by just how lovely the place was. Clean, nicely designed, friendly staff, en suite shower, TV, wi fi, computer, tea and coffee making facilities. You're not supposed to get all that for £25.00 a night are you?
Did I mention the full Scottish Breakfast buffet and free parking? A real bargain.
The only really negative thing to come from the experience was setting foot back in my own flat, which is in a building structurally identical to the hotel. They had done such a good job on the decor and upkeep of the hotel, my home suddenly felt cold and unwelcoming. read more
