I would not recommend. I just got back from picking up my truck for autobody repair evaluation. My insurance company required me to have it towed there due to COVID instead of sending someone out to evaluate the damage. The car sat for three days before they could look at it. They got the quote back to me after 4 days, billing me for 3 hours worth of work and a $90/day storage to have it sit there for the 4 days. If they had said they couldn't look at it for a few days we would have gotten it towed down later in the week. The owner suggested that he "gave us a deal" when in reality he was just doing the job that we paid him for. I'm sure there are better places to go, don't waste your time with these crooks. read more

Horrible service..I was referred to by genes brother in law to do floors rockers and. Frame connectors and the quality of work is beyond bad!! These guys are awesome. They've fixed my car and my wife's car over the last couple years. Watch out in the Safeway and Mtn Hardwear parking lots. We both got backed into in these lots, which had us seek out the great folks at Shepherds. Their communication is great and their work is top notch! They aren't always so good! I was T-Boned and had my truck taken to these guys. They fixed the Destruction well but I had to fight for a PAIR of tires( one was destroyed)! I found Shepherds through Yelp and it was such an utterly fantastic experience, I plan to get into more fender benders just to give them more business. I brought my car in for estimates on two issues: a 3-foot-long superficial scratch on the passenger side acquired in the gym parking lot (not my fault) and a front bumper that wasn't sitting flush after I'd tapped someone at a stop sign (totally my fault). Art, who I presume is the owner, asked me if I had some time, then took my car around back and had his guys fix both problems in 20 minutes, then refused to charge me. (Mind you, I have a raging cold and I'm pretty sure I forgot to brush my hair this morning, so this level of service was clearly either out of pity or simple goodwill.) We went skiing last weekend up in Tahoe and had the unfortunate experience of hitting ice and sliding off the road and hitting a fence pole while going down a hill close to Truckee. The car was in bad shape, we got towed into Truckee and dropped off at Shepard's Auto Body, they were kind enough to do some emergency work for us and bend everything back into place so we could continue our journey. We couldn't leave the car with them otherwise we'd be stranded so they really came through and gave us the quick fix we needed to get back on the road. We had some pretty hefty damage but they were able to straighten it all out and we drove off without any problems, just need to do some paint/panel work once back in L.A. AMAZING!! My truck with over 100k miles on it was sideswiped a couple weeks ago. The entire right side and front end were destroyed. I got some quotes from Shepherds and other Auto Body shops. Shepherds gave the best price coupled with great service. The competition just looking at it and gave me a number. Art (the owner) took his time to look it over explain things and a good quote himself. When I got my truck back it looked like new. The paint had been rejuvenated, even where the truck wasn't hit. Got into an accident on the way up to Truckee. I was pretty hopeless - the damage seemed substantial and I was going to have to pay for the repairs out of pocket. Jason worked with me to find the most affordable solution, and was very resourceful in doing so. He understood my situation from the beginning and kept it in mind every step of the way. We had several discussions throughout the course of the repair where he explained my options and made recommendations. The repair took a bit of time but happy to make that compromise in exchange for an inexpensive repair solution, which Shepherd's definitely delivered. Very happy with the end result. 1) Terrible coordination/communication 2) They quoted 1 week for the work. They took 30 days and would have taken much longer had we not continued to pressure them to finish the work by the time our rental car needed to be returned. 3) They did a terrible job. The car was brand new (2018, 6 months old) and when we got the car back the seals were broken so it now gets moisture inside and the paint job was clearly rushed and very poorly done. Even has an expert I noticed it was terrible. The shop we had install the clear bra after said it was the worst paint job they'd ever seen. So frustrating and upsetting to hear. 4) They never finished the work. They returned the car to us the same day the rental car was due back and told us to bring the car back so they could apply the clear bra that needed to be replaced. We would never bring our car back to them. Stay away! read more

Pretty bad experience. Told us it would take 2 days so dropped on a Wednesday. A week and a half later it still wasn't done, so we owed the car rental company 250$ instead of 50$. Then there was a mix-up where they told the insurance company our car wasn't there so when they didn't get the payment on the day of completion, they told us they wouldn't release the car to us. Insurance co. said they would send the check that day, but owner made us pay for the car repairs out of pocket to get it back, and had to wait to get insurance funds sent to us to break even. We try to keep things local, but definitely would not go back here. read more

The workmanship is superb, unfortunately the place seems to think that your insurance will cover a rental car indefinitely. A four day job turned into three weeks whereas 11 of those days they never even touched the car. My insurance company now will not automatically insure me year to year. This is USAA! All because the auto repair place abuses our auto insurance and assumes it hasn't any consequences. It does. The sad part is Jason does a good job and if you have a second car as a backup great, otherwise expect at least a month to get your car back. That's unacceptable to us, now we have to worry whether next year when the policy is up for renewal that they keep insuring us. So yes good work, bad news is the blatant abuse of insurance rental car usage. read more

Unfortunately have had quite a few fender benders in the past and shepherds has always done an awesome job. Yeah sometimes wasn't always done exactly when expected but that's the way it goes. But mostly it was done ahead of schedule. The shop doesn't have the parts on hand they have to order them and rely on the dealer to get them to the shop which doesn't always go as planned. Not to mention the insurance companies that they have to wait for for approval. It's a process. And for all the negative posts I know Jason would give you his personal car for a loaner for free if he had an extra. And as far as being expensive go get fuel or groceries everything is more expensive on the hill! So don't believe everything you read until you hear both sides. Some people are just crazy and expect things for free. I WOULDN'T GO ANYWHERE ELSE! I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE 10 STARS! read more

I brought my car to Shepherd's on recommendation from my Insurance agent and I am pretty sure that I will be calling the same agent to refer me out for everything! I met with the very courteous owner, Art, and he quickly emailed me an estimate and then went out of his way to email the photos/estimate to the insurance company handling the claim so that they could forgo having to meet with me for an appraisal. It was super-convenient that the shop worked so well with Progressive and my body work was done flawlessly and earlier than promised. If you have ever had repeated experiences with auto-body shops, you know that this is rare, even for the simplest of repairs. To top it off, they gave my car a nice vacuuming. Good peeps! Seriously, I highly doubt the owner flipped anyone off as one review states. I highly doubt the owner of this shop would not help to do as small of a job needed or as large of a job needed. Lol, the guy who's review bad mouthed this establishment also said to take your car to advanced auto body down the street instead, LMAO, really!!!!!? I would stick with shepard's and that comes from my experience living in this area for 60 years! I can however, see shepard's not completing a job some amature started if shepard's thinks it is a liability to his shop ie, frame work, welding issues...i dont know but, if he turns down work, my educated guess is, it would be for a warranted reason, such as that. I have gone here when necessary and have ALWAYS ALWAYS been received with the upmost in customer service. I am not in the auto body repair business, I can not speak for the work they do. I can however, say that the owner takes what ever time is needed to answer all questions and to do what appears to me, to be a, TOP NOTCH! GOOD AS IT GETS JOB! While on vacation in Tahoe I managed to run my car into a cement pole. While the damage was not that bad, it was affecting the tire and needed a quick fix so I could just drive home. 5 stops later, Shepherds helped me out greatly. I told them all I wanted was to be able to drive an hour and half home without anymore problems. I didn't care about the aesthetics of the car at the moment. Free of charge and within 15 minutes, they made my car drivable and we were on our way, and it actually looked better than before. Living here in Truckee, it is sometimes hard not to be pissed off at the businesses and restaurants that charge ridiculous prices that I believe are tailored for "tourists". But there are some businesses in town that are truly awesome and take good care of their customers because they are local. SHEPARDS auto body on West River St. Is one of them. I had some minor scratches on my new car (from me being stupid and leaning against car with "bling on my jeans") I went to the OTHER auto body shop on West River and they wanted $140 to rub the scratches out.. So I went to Shepards and Jason took my car in, spent 30 minutes on it, got almost all of the scratches off, washed it and said NO CHARGE!!! Just want to give a shout out to them... If you want an auto body shop that cares about its customers, dont go to Sheperds. If you want the shop to communicate with you about the progress of your fix up, dont go to Sheperds. If you want a shop that will call you back when they say they will, even after a few days, don't go to Sheperds. If you want to get your car fixed to completion instead of just partially, dont go to Sheperds. They had my car for 2 whole months, and they never once called me back when they said they would make a note of it. (I waited days for those calls before I called again) The whole thing went from a 2-3 week job, to a month and a half, and eventually 2 months. When I finally went to pick it up, I was told they had a few more little parts to put in, like the plastic fastener that holds the drivers side of my front bumper, the engine cover, a few more fasteners under the hood, and so on. I was told they would call me when they got the rest of it in. They never called, they never responded when I called, and even when I left messages they never communicated back to me. I would never recommend this place, and I'll never go back. They're over-priced, they seem to be perpetually stoned, and they claim the customer is their number one priority. What a joke. Jason is probably a really good guy, and the lady at the front desk, Nola, is very nice but if you try to do business with these people, you will be disappointed and aggravated the entire time. I've been through similar fix ups with other shops, I've never had such a negative experience like I did with Sheperds. read more
