We were referred here from Dr. Wickens at Retina Consultants, in an emergency type situation for a cornea infection and sever scarring. We were referred to Dr. Alder. He has been incredible, kind, very thorough and up front every step of the way. Very detailed and answered all our questions and what to expect. Why there is no way to reverse the scarring, he was easily able to get the infection gone quick. We have regular appointments with Dr Alder to keep a close eye on the situation and have cornea checks. We were easily able to get a specialized eye glass prescription quickly to help him see. The doctor and his staff have gone above and beyond and taken such great care of us and we could not be more grateful. Dr Alder has continue to provide top notch service to his patients. The staff have been amazing to work with and very kind. They always provide a laugh to help ease the nerves. Scheduling through them has been a breeze. I truly cannot recommend this place enough as they were a lifesaver literally. read more

Absolute worst experience. Dr Brian Lee completely dismissed my issues. Said 'sometimes, at 40, we just wake up and can't see". He gave me drops and said 'ill add readers to your glasses if that will help". Went for a second opinion. Not ONLY did he miss the freaking hole in my eye, but he also ignored what I said about the growth in my brain, which may now be causing my issue Don't waste your time with him! read more

The receptionist. She is rude and not welcoming. She spoke to me from her desk. Then when I respond, she tells me how she can hear me from her desk AND that she is helping someone else. She needs customer service training. My first visit and FIRST IMPRESSIONS are EVERYTHING. So far, NO RATING!! Overly busy. The waiting room is essentially a corral with additional pens further back in the office. Additionally, get rid of the double check-in system. Even if you check in online you still have to check in on the kiosks and have your insurance card and driver's license scanned. Quest labs if you check in online that is it. I had cataract surgery today. Dr R Theodosis was excellent, professional and above all highly skilled. The entire support staff team also excelled in bedside manners, friendliness and informative. I am unhappy to have to leave this review but feel like I have no other choice. I had an eyesight test and medical exam on November 12th, the first part of the test was rushed by the technician and I was not convinced that it had been done properly. I mentioned this later in the process when a person in the dispensing area spoke to me, she was very helpful. I told the dispensing person that I had felt rushed in the first part of my test and I asked if my prescription had changed much. When she checked, she said that it was significantly different from my past visit, last year. When I got home I compared by most recent results with my previous results and there was a big difference. I have notice no appreciable change in my eyesight which had been stable. I e-mailed Shepherd Eye Center through their patient portal and explained, asking if my initial test could be checked. A week later and I have heard nothing, no reply, not even an acknowledgment of my message. This lack of service has taken me from being an advocate of the Shepherd Eye Center, to a disappointed customer of it. Customers are not an interruption of their work day, they are the purpose of it. I expected better from a service provider that had previously impressed me. The lack of a response does not reflect well on Shepherd Eye Center, nor does the lack of any recognition by medical professionals of a significant change in prescription. read more

I have been a patient of Shepherd Eye Center for several years. I've had two different ophthalmologists there and had two surgeries there. Overall, I've been very happy with my medical care. Why then the one star review? Multiple times I've had a problem with billing. Both my wife and I have been charged for services that were not provided. Getting the error on the building corrected is incredibly time-consuming and frustrating. Prolonged waits on hold, call backs that never come ( or result in being disconnected before speaking to anyone). read more

I'm very impressed with how smooth their office/clinic operates. Each of my appointments, I'm pleasantly happy with how everyone knows their responsibilities and is efficient and friendly. I never have to wait long even though the place is always busy and full of people. The staff and doctors at Shepherd Eye center are great - and have taken great care of our eyes. My husband and I have been coming here for 2 years seeing Dr. Stewart. The check in process is always easy and quick with their self check in kiosks. The staff is always friendly and we've never had to wait more than 15 minutes. My only complaint is that the selection of designer frames was a bit limited- however they always give you a copy of your latest prescription in case you don't find a pair you like. If you're looking for an Opthamologist or Optometrist I would definitely recommend Shepherd! read more

It's my belief that the staff who take your calls and set up/cancel appointments, or rearrange their schedules for you are the on the front lines of common courtesy when you have to cancel an appointment because you just tested positive for Covid. Tina was so amazing ! She was kind and empathetic about my situation! Yes, Dr. Hill is fine and thorough, but let us not forget the staff who take our calls to schedule or reschedule because of incidents out of our control. The client on the other side might be going through a hard time, feeling ill or dealing with a lot of stress. We are extremely pleased with this clinic! They are very busy so the wait times can be a little on the long side. Check in can be a bit confusing for us non techy people but the care is wonderful. I feel compelled to write this review to increase awareness of future patients after trying to resolve my issue privately but to no avail. I have been going to Shepherd Eye Center for 15 years. In August, I went for a well-eye check up with an in-network ophthalmologist and was given a clean bill of health. Within three days I developed severe pain in one eye. I called the office, and unbeknownst to me, I was scheduled with an out of network optometrist. Shame on me for not asking what type of provider I would be seeing and if they were in network. Optometrists do routine eye exams and vision tests, diagnose and treat routine eye conditions, prescribe and dispense corrective lenses, and do pre and post op care. I feel pairing me with an ophthalmologist would have been best practice. I had a total or 4 appointments with the optometrist and was never told he was out of network even though I paid my co-pay at each visit. At the third visit, he prescribed a new eye drop but the prescription was never sent in. I had to leave 12 hours later for a two week out of state wilderness vacation with no access to a pharmacy. I have requested SEC absorb my out of network costs because they never informed me the provider was out of network and the standard of care was poor, but they declined. Now I go to Wellish Vision Institute even though they are out of network. read more

Another screw up by Shepherd eye center the day 1 week ago, I went to order my glasses at their office, they told me they would not accept my insurance in the optical department, but they accepted it in the medical side, even though they originally told me it was the same company .....the optician Nadia printed out my prescription and two prescriptions printed out, she looked at both ....first looked at one and the other than one, and then again the other and decided to hand me a prescription. I was told by her to go to Visionworks because they would accept my insurance. Then I went to Costco for two other pairs of glasses ....today I picked them both up today and they were both completely wrong. My vision was extremely cloudy on the right eye....went back to Shepherd and they said oh yeah she gave you the wrong script and there were two scripts printed and that shouldn't have been .... I said a good employee would've contacted the physician in the back of the office, who was there and asked which prescription was correct .....not on her own handing me a prescription that was wrong .....so when I went there today, I said who's going to take care of the glasses that I picked up .....three pairs of glasses that are now incorrect and the manager Helen at Shepard said well the companies that made them ....first of all it wasn't Costco's fault or Visionworks fault that Shepherd screwed up And the pair of glasses that I picked up at Visionworks we're sitting in Shepherd eye center .....so at that point, I said at least you guys should make up the lens for that pair of glasses since you sell it anyhow and they totally refused. They did say they would bring the glasses to Visionworks and pick them up, but it would delay the whole process probably by another week or two and at that point, I was flipping mad and decided to go back down to the store on my own .....Stay away from Shepherd. They have incompetent people and plus when they do something wrong, they really don't own up to it. They didn't offer me Nothing not a pair of glasses .....not to fix or correct the problem by themselves .....not some sort of future credit.... nothing read more

Scheduling, billing, coordination of care and clearing with insurance could be so much better. Care and thorough exam was given in diagnostic side. If you have cataracts and difficulty seeing, expect to be required to do things online and forms and co-pays using their kiosks versus a live person. read more

Took my aunt to her follow-up appointment after eye surgery. It's been 2 weeks and her vision is worse than it was before surgery. We arrived at 10:15 for her 10:20 appointment. Now 11:00 and the girl at the front desk coldly and unconcerned said it'll be at least another 20 minutes in the lobby before her name is even called. Very disappointed. read more

I hate to give a bad review. But, in this case it is just plain necessary. I've been a patient of the Shepherd Eye Center in Anthem for years now. It's never been an amazing experience but the quality of care has gone down so noticeably that it's only fair to warn others about it. I have been back 3 times for the same problem with my prescription. And, my problem was still not solved. The techs and even the doctors just rush you and do not take the proper time to listen to your needs and even get your prescription correct. What a waste of time. My prescription was completely off all 3 times. On the fourth try, I did not bother to go back-especially because I have already tried to bring this up with the managers. Now, I have to give the manager, Phyllis credit. At least she attempted to help me and acted kindly. I do appreciate that she even cared. However, I got another manager named, Yami? or something like that. She was completely rude and careless with my concerns, even blamed me for their mistakes. She clearly could care less and her attitude was aggressive and rather grumpy. I won't be back again. I suggest others look for higher quality of eye care unless you don't mind being a part of an assembly line of negligence. read more

I made an appointment after receiving a referral from my primary. I called in June for a new patient appointment and they scheduled me for November. Yesterday I get a call saying they need to reschedule my appointment for January! Unbelievable! I said this is not acceptable and they need to find another appointment for me. Then offered no alternative appointment and told me to go to Pearl vision. Excuse me?! I ask to speak with the manager and they plane me on hold for 20 min at this point I just hang up. This review is for the Shepherd Eye Center on Horizon Ridge in Henderson. If you come to this branch, be sure to have plenty of time & enjoy playing musical chairs as you go from one waiting room to another. We've been to three offices, one in Henderson (which is convenient to our home) the one on Pecos-McLeod & another on Post Rd. All seem to operate basically the same way. Upon arrival you check in & wait to be called to the front desk to check your paperwork, return to your seat & wait to be called by a technician to begin your exams (how many depends upon exactly what you're in for) & finally being called in to see your doctor. Bring your patience & something to read, you'll get through it. The staff, doctors & technicians are very professional & courteous. Well worth the wait. Their office is clean, neat & modern. But, it does get busy. The Mrs & I both go to this office, Dr Curvant for her Dr Eisenberg for me. I've had cataract surgery on one eye & although I'm not looking forward to another, I'm certainly not worried about the next one. read more

Diagnosis not accurate I personally had two surgeries last year that I did not need. They could not tell AMD from cataracts. I think that's pretty pretty sad for an eye institution. read more

I have been going to Shepherd Eye Center for several years now to check my vision and to see the ophthalmologist for examination. Up to last week they said my eyes were perfectly healthy. Imagine my surprise when the technician told me that according to my records I had diabetic retinopathy when in fact I have never had diabetes and not even pre-diabetes if one believes Quest Diagnostics and my GP. Record-keeping at Shepherd is unprofessional, sloppy, and borders on malpractice. I will never return and urge you to go elsewhere for more accuracy and better service. I received my prescription from the doctor and unfortunately decided to try purchasing my glasses in their office. One of the absolute worse decision ever! First order of glasses ($1400 with everything-my insurance paid all but $269) they fitted incorrectly, then they sent it back, then said they lost it, had to find other frames, then fitted again incorrectly, sent it back again. I went in to just pick up the glasses, the wait was soo long, never greeted me or said I had to sign in. They are short staffed, and not very friendly. To be proactive we have had our children examined for congenital cataracts knowing they had a genetic predisposition. After 3 years of seeing a top specialist at another practice and getting an all-clear, we sensed something was wrong and sought a second opinion from Shepherd Eye Center. Dr. Rovit is an every day hero. Within minutes of the exam he detected the cataracts that we had been assured weren't there, and before we knew it his office was juggling his schedule to get her in for surgery asap. Now, 5 years later she's continuing to grow wonderfully. Occasionally I recall the priceless moment she first saw the stars as a three year old and was at a loss for words for describing "the sky has lights"! I had some eye issues that needed the care of an opthamologist and contacted Shepherd Eye Center and got an immediate appointment the next day. The waiting time was only 30 minutes after my appointment time. The staff were all courteous and I saw Dr. Theodosis, a board certified ophthalmologist who carefully checked my eyes and gave me a referral for follow up with a retina specialist just to make sure everything is okay. He did not rush me and patiently answered all my questions before we finished. I received good follow-up care information and would return if necessary. read more

If Dr. Alder was not there, I would go elsewhere. I only go there because of him. My overall experience was stressful because I always have to wait about 80 minutes in a packed room before seeing a doctor. Then, the doctors visit is less than 10 minutes.
