Long story short, my front tooth was failing from an injury almost 30 years. After getting assessed in an initial consult, getting second opinions, etc. I went with Dr. MacDonald and had the first part done almost 6 months after the initial consult, I chose that because of work obligations and my wife was getting a graduate degreee and I wanted to look ok in the pictures. I just had part 1) tooth removal in June, and his staff seemed to do a good job. I was put out and the process wasn't too painful, I filled prescriptions of antibiotics and painkillers that day. I coordinated with my dentist to get a temporary piece (or stayplate) a couple days after the intial procedure. So far good. My dental insurance from work covers a little bit of the expenses but the majority of dental insurances don't really cover it, they mainly do preventative care (cleanings and fillings). I had already put some into my FSA/HSA, unfortunately the timing of when I scheduled was after open-enrollment so I wish I had set aside more funds. Like I said, so far so good, and it's my front tooth so it'd be nice if it looked and felt good.

To say it was life changing would be an understatement. Not only did it help with my tmj but it changed the shape of my face for the better, less square/round and more oval/heart. There is so much still being researched on fascia and facial anatomy, I'm grateful Dr McDonald listened to me and took my request seriously. Now there's more information on "mewing" and tongue posture but at the time it was not well known and it meant a lot he listened to me when many ignored it. Everyone in the office made it such a pleasurable experience from start to finish, I hope he is still in practice if I ever need an oral surgeon again.

However, I found the surgeon to be very dismissive - they didn't greet me, they interrupted me every time I tried to speak or pose a question and they in general seemed to be in a hurry. The surgeon also tried to upsell me on a post surgery procedure that I did not need (I would later learn). Overall, I felt very uncomfortable with their bedside manner. Last, the office forgot to give me my X-ray that I had taken during my visit only to mail it to me several weeks later without paying for the postage. I ended up having to do so when my mailman made the delivery to my home. It was not a pleasant experience. Overall, I'm glad that I trusted my gut and did not pursue getting my wisdom teeth removal here after my experience. I went to another nearby surgeon and had a great experience and paid much less as well. I would encourage others, if they can, to seek a second opinion and then make your decision from there. I am glad I did.

After calling many dental offices, they wanted me to wait until January after the Christmas holidays. I was running out of options. Eventually I called Dr. Ephraim office and told them my situation. They gave me an appointment that same day in the afternoon. After Dr.Ephraim evaluated my tooth and saw the urgency of my situation. He scheduled surgery for the next morning, one day before Christmas. The surgery was the best dental surgery I have ever had. He put me to sleep, extract the infected tooth and put in stiches. He gave me antibiotics and pain pills. Well I did not need to take the pain pills. I hardly had any pain. I have had dental surgery before and was in pain for at least 2 weeks. Dr. Ephraim was able to extract my tooth without causing me much pain. I highly recommend him. The staff in his office is also very experience and efficient. Just happened to see their sign as I walked the lake and decided to call: receptionist was nice, said they could do it, asked me to email the requisition from my dentist I didi and never heard back! A week later, decided to stop by to try and schedule, but office was closed - I thought, before someone opened the door as I was walking away, I turned around, the guy saw me and quickly closed the door! I went back to the door, knocked a few times again, saying Hey, Hey, the guy id'd himself as Ephrem. I told him about my need for the Xray, he said no problem just call the lady tomorrow and we'll take care of you, no problem. Was no problem, for them, as I called 2-3 times, left messages but realized, I'd been put on ice. Now, in their defense I kinda' understand, because how dare I go out of the US to have $16,000 worth of dental work, when I could get the same thing for $40,000+ right here in the ol' USA! My bad!

When calling the office, you always get a prompt to leave a voicemail. No one ever responds to that voicemail. Thinking that Dr. Nam might be on vacation. If the type of care you would receive here, or the quality of care is that all correlated to their communication style, I would be very worried about being a patient here.

And even when I say be careful, he was still super rough with me. Instead of cutting the back of the wire, he would cut my cheeks. Several years later, I went to get one wisdom tooth removed by him because he was the only orthodontist surgeon I worked with. Also, at the time, I was in college and couldn't afford to pay for all four removals myself. He not only effed up my bottom cheeks and gums more, there's still scarring till this day. So glad he didn't do the other three because my mouth would've been even more scratched and cut up. And instead of offering me anesthesia to knock me out, he kept me awake and banged away with a hammer and chisel to break up the tooth. There was so much pressure on my jaw I felt like it was going to pop off. This really sucked. I went to another oral surgeon for the other three wisdom teeth because I was not going to go through this experience again. I DO NOT recommend him at all for any procedures, not even sure how he is for cleanings but I doubt it would be any better.

She had all four impacted wisdom teeth surgery during winter break with the oral surgeon in our hometown. She was good for the post-op but suddenly developed jaw and gum pain along with face swelling yesterday. She was scared and away from home. Luckily, I found Dr. Irving on Yelp. Called right at 8am this morning and Cissy, who answered the phone, was professional, understanding, and patient with this worried mom! She scheduled my daughter for this afternoon and was clear on what Dr. Irving needed from the other oral surgeon before the appt. And to fill out the Patient Registration form on their website. My daughter was cared for by Dr. Irving - both infected sides were numbed and cleaned out. He also wanted to evaluate her to make sure antibiotics were necessary. He reassured her that her recovery would be easier than after her surgery. He got her in and out. She is feeling much better tonight, and I'm glad she has an excellent oral surgeon away from home!
