As usual, go away and Murphy's Law came to visit on the hottest day in summer as our A/C went out. Hecox had helped us get many years out of a subpar system that came with the house so we knew a new system was going to happen eventually. We were given three options for a new system (which was a gas heat and electric A/C unit). They installed it quickly which brought comfort to our family and pets. The price was fair for such work and a much better system.

Super disappointed and do not recommend.

Just want to comment about today. Read on if you want. But, know that overall, I highly recommend them While I didn't catch the name of this morning's tech, I have to admit he's partially the impetus for this review. If you get him--he's tall, about 6 feet with glasses and long salt & pepper hair that's in a low bun--just know he's incredibly straightforward and blunt. Our AC hadnt been working for about 36 hours and while I IMMENSELY appreciate his coming out today, when I asked him a question about something our thermostat's been doing he interrupted and said "oh you have the heat on" like that'd been the issue. It wasn't. I had to cut him off and explain the thermostat, installed by Pepco years before we moved in, goes to that first before you click the button one more time to get it to AC. How did he not assume that? He went outside to check our actual AC unit and then came back around, saying "you've got a bad compressor". When I asked if that was an easy fix, because I didn't know, he scoffed and said "yeah, i've got one in the truck. Same blunt, kind of dismissive "why don't you know that" tone. Sorry for asking, yeesh.

I made a decision to purchase, then next day the sales person called me and tells, "someone else bought my unit!" A larger company bought up stock. I call the VP ( Brandon Tolbert) for reassurance this "disappearing unit" will not happen again...and he SHOUTS at ME, and insinuates things I never said. Unbelievably unprofessional and abusive. I told him to stop shouting at me, saying untrue things.....he does not listen. Mr Tolbert, lost his temper and HUNG UP on me! WOW I'm so happy this miserable customer service experience happened before I could buy from Rod Miller. I can only imagine how they treat people when the HVAC unit goes bad. Too bad, Daddy Tolbert is the President...and his son is VP wand will probably never be held accountable for his actions with customers.

I sent a request to many hvac companies here, several replied. I went with A&S due to the reasonable cost and that they were able to come out within 2 days. Eury really put the work in to figure out what was wrong, and that's why I'm giving this review. He probably spent an hour diagnosing the problem, which is a good use of the $79 fee. Turns out it was indeed pepcos thermostat that was malfunctioning and not my furnace. Because i was impressed with his service, I bought a new thermostat and installation on site from Eury. I simply don't trust Pepco to take responsibility for their own product and get out here to fix it, so I paid the $250 charge to A&S to actually fix my problem.

This business left us out in the cold. The tech, David, that came out was great - he was willing…read moreto discuss the issue with our boiler on a level i could understand. We had a 10 year parts warranty, so expected to pay only labor, which Anthony & Son confirmed multiple times. We received an invoice by email on a Saturday for $1,000 - with no line item for what was parts or labor. The price seemed high for just the labor that David didn't expect to take long, and when we asked why the price was so high, Anthony and Son reduced the price but again merely sent an email without explanation, provided no line item and refused to look up the part to tell me the MSRP. When I called the person person manning the phones claimed they sent an invoice on Friday (they never did) and implied I should have signed immediately for them to order the part, and nothing could be done until Monday After further inquiries, (each time I had to call - there was never any follow up), the owner, Rafael, finally called me back on Monday, the day they were supposed to make the repairs, and after 3 days without heat. Rafael insisted I was lying about the timing of the invoice, and defended his assistant, who blamed the whole ordeal on me over the weekend. Rafael told me he was the owner of the business and didn't have to deal with people asking questions about the actual costs of parts versus labor. He then claimed a senior tech would have to come out to confirm the issue was actually the problem, and we'd have to wait even longer for our boiler to be repaired. At no point over the weekend was I told the initial diagnosis may be incorrect. I questioned why Anthony and Son kept shifting costs and steps to repair the issue, and Rafael then refused to come out to fix our boiler at all until I apologized for questioning his lack of transparency in pricing He cursed at me, calling me a "pain in the ass" and further insulted me, before hanging up the phone. It seems Anthony and Son ropes you in to a job, then banks on you paying them whatever they want just to get your heat working again, knowing you won't want to spend more time and money hiring another business to come out for a diagnostic and repair.

I had been (foolishly) paying $600 a year for their "Comfort Club" service. It's really just an…read moreexcuse for them to make a sales call twice a year. 6 years ago, when they installed a new high-efficiency HVAC for the house, it took them days to get it working and 3 visits from the county to pass inspection. Subsequent Glenmont techs were confused by various aspects of the installation, to the point of making changes in an attempt to get it working properly. This past year, they determined the CO output level was too high and shut down the furnace completely during the coldest week of January. They said they'd get back to me that day. They did not return my calls for 6 days! Where was my "Comfort"? Must be the comfort of the owners that is mentioned in the name of the contract! The kicker? They could have just switched us over to electric heat for the week, but they took more joy in just letting us freeze. Sales calls were very hit-or-miss with the level of the technician assigned: -One tech told me I had the wrong thermostat for my system and wanted to sell me a new one. -One tech told me my blower motor was rusted out because the drip pan had backed up and was about to fail. I told him no and used it for another 6 years. -One tech disconnected the overflow pan sensor on my attic air conditioner, causing a flood that dripped out of the light fixtures in my foyer. However, the Service calls were consistent! They got more expensive every year! Regularly, the cheap starter capacitors on the outside heat pumps would blow on very hot days. Glenmont would come out and replace them with another $45 capacitor and charge between $172, and $452 (this past cooling season).

Two weeks later, on 5/18, the air conditioning stopped working. They market themselves as 24-hour, so I called 5 times that evening. They have a system for screening their calls. I communicated several times that this was an urgent concern, as I have 5 pets who would be intolerant of the 100-degree heat forecast for the following day. Even after dark, my house was 85 degrees. After those calls, I received no calls back. The next morning, on 5/19, I scheduled a morning appointment with Greenfox and then chatted with them via their chat system. The person on the chat assured me that this was a concern. They reported that they marked my appointment as urgent and would register a complaint with the company on my behalf. They assured me that the tech would leave and arrive at my house by 8am. 8am came and went with no call or contact from Greenfox. I logged on to the chat again and spoke with another agent and recounted everything that had happened previously. They said they could do nothing but make appointments on the chat. I said that I did that morning and was told the appointment would be around 8. They said I would have to call the office. I told them that I already had 5 times, and I received no return call. The chat said there was nothing they could do. I then spent time I could have been working calling other companies to try to get service, as the house was getting close to 80 degrees at 9:30 AM. A tech from Greenfox eventually arrived at around 11:15. The company never called me back at all; they didn't let me know he was coming. I received an automated text that the tech was coming 15 minutes after he arrived. He found the issue, which should have been discovered two weeks earlier at the servicing appointment. The tech then left, saying, "I'll send you the invoice." No discussion. The tech then charged us $245 for a problem that should have been caught during the initial service we already paid for. Getting an annual service from this company is useless. It appears they didn't thoroughly review for potential issues, which has left my AC not working on the hottest days of the year so far. There was no consideration on the second bill for the poor work of the technician who came out to service. They don't answer phone calls. They don't call anyone back. They don't let you know a tech is coming. Their chat responses are, at minimum, disingenuous and, at worst, outright lies. And then they still charge you double, even though it was their error. There are far better and more reliable companies in the area, with whom I will be contracting going forward.
