Because the old valve was badly installed and the surrounding "box" cracked when it was removed, Mark went above and beyond. He replaced the whole box and the new valves, a service that would normally cost an extra$200, but he didn't charge us a cent for it. He tested everything before leaving, and when I mentioned our weak‑pressure shower, he instantly diagnosed the cause, explained what caused it, and showed me the issue, and fixed it at no additional cost. I also asked about the slow draining sink, and Mark handed me a tool to remove the debris and showed me how to access the clog. Again, this was free of charge. Mark assured us that Lyons' labor and parts come with a one‑year warranty and that the components used are built to last. Essentially, despite the yelp profile stating a "free estimate", it will cost you closer to $200 to get a quote. I see this as false advertisement. In addition, when the technician concluded that the problem was the capacitor, I received a final quote of $600. When I googled the price of the same capacitor online, the price range was in between 75$ - 150$. Essentially, they are charging a premium of at least $450 per replacement for a single part (capacitor). Despite their professionalism and quality work, I do not recommend this company for the reasons stated above. If price is not a concern for you, and you would rather pay twice the market value for a job then you should definitely choose them. EDIT: I actually googled the price of a capacitor and offered to buy my own. I was told that by the technician that if I purchased my own capacitor that the company would not install it. In conclusion, they did not address any of my concerns. Unfortunately, after reading the other bad reviews, there seems to be a consistent pattern of discrepancies between what they tell customers and what they instruct technicians to say on site. I will say upfront that they were punctual and professional during the appointment. Where things went south was once they started explaining the work and the cost. I was told they would need to clear out the dry well and run a camera to "diagnose" whether there were any additional issues with the inlet or connected piping. Their quote started at $4,950. My concern was that the dry well simply needed to be drained/cleared, yet the quote appeared to include work and diagnostic steps before they had even confirmed those services were necessary. I did not understand why I was being charged upfront for things that had not been identified as actual problems yet. In my opinion, additional work or additional charges should only come into play after an issue is found, explained, and agreed to. When I told them the price was far outside my budget and that I would continue looking for another quote, they then asked me to "quote them a price" and said they would work with me. That made the original quote feel even more questionable to me. If the job genuinely started at nearly $5,000, I do not understand why the price suddenly became negotiable once I pushed back. They followed up with me several times by email asking whether I was moving forward. I ultimately responded that I had found another company, A&V Septic Services, that completed the work for $400, which was only about 8% of The Drain Guys starting quote. While they were punctual and professional in person, I personally would not move forward with this company based on the pricing experience. I strongly recommend getting multiple estimates before agreeing to any work.
