Hecox Home Services has always been there when we needed them, for large and small jobs. Years ago, my husband and I were on vacation and had family staying at our home while we were gone. As usual, go away and Murphy's Law came to visit on the hottest day in summer as our A/C went out. Hecox had helped us get many years out of a subpar system that came with the house so we knew a new system was going to happen eventually. We were given three options for a new system (which was a gas heat and electric A/C unit). They installed it quickly which brought comfort to our family and pets. We've used Hecox for 6 years. In 2025, they replaced both of our condenser fan motors in our 2 AC units. In July 2026, they told us one is broken again and needs to be replaced. These typically last 10+ years before needing replacement! And, since we are about 2 months past the "warranty period" they want to charge us full price AGAIN to pay for the work they just did last year. This is either poor work, faulty parts or both. They did an inspection of our home system a while back and immediately recommended we replace our units (but emphasized they offered financing!). Of the different HVAC companies we've had since we bought the house they were the only ones who recommended replacing the units (very expensive). When I subsequently called to get a copy of their estimate - they send it to you as an electronic link with only so many days to accept before it disappears - they said they'd get back to me but never heard from them again. I have neighbors who are huge fans so I'm probably in the minority but our experience was meh. read more

The heat wasn't working, Called Hecox on Wednesday morning. Martin came out right out. He said it needed a part. He said he would be out to fix it Thursday. The part arrived Thursday. But Hecox said they wouldn't be able to install it until Monday afternoon. It's now Saturday. They've had the part for two days. My kids and I have been without heat for three days. It's 27 degrees out tonight. They don't care. If you want your heat fixed, I'd call anyone but Hecox. My response to the Hecox comment: It is all true. When the Repairman came and couldn't fix it, I asked when will you fix it? He said the following day he would be back. That was on Wednesday morning. Over the course of the next five days I repeatedly spoke to the woman in the office. Every time she said they wouldn't be coming because they were busy and they didn't have a repairman Who would work late. In fact, she said she asked Martin if he would work late. She never said there was no part. I highly doubt she would've asked someone to work late to install the part that didn't exist. Bottom line it took them almost a week to get the heat back working in a snowstorm. If they had told me that they wouldn't be able to repair it for a week, I would've gone and gotten someone else to do it. Which for anyone else is what I suggest you do... Don't use them and find somebody else who can and will repair your heat in a timely manner. Not lead you on.... tomorrow, tomorrow. Lastly I find it funny that they're responding to me here, when they were basically unresponsive when I needed them to fix my heat. read more

Very pleased with these folks. While it's a small family owned, local business, they are staffed well with knowledgeable people. Responded to my phone call quickly in the height of a heat wave. Came out when they said they would, and gave me options for replacing my damaged compressor. Quotes were very reasonable, work was done quickly, efficiently, and professionally. Our furnace quit working on a Friday night. We called on Saturday morning and they arrived on time a few hours later. They were very thorough and had it working within 15 minutes. The repairman stuck around for 20 more minutes to check some other things and make sure the furnace would cycle correctly. We talked for 10 minutes about when to replace the furnace and AC unit and parts that may require replacement in the future. Overall excellent service. One of the best contractor experiences I have had in DC. read more

I called around 11am to have someone come out. The oncall guy told me he will be at my house around 2pm. I called around 3pm because i havent heard from anybody, the guy told me that I didn't confirm with him my appointment!!!!! I said are you kidding me!!!! So he then tells me he is going to "squeeze" me into his schedule and try to make it by 5pm. I call back at 6pm and no answer. I had to call about 5 times in order for him to call me back telling me that he is still coming. At 8pm the owner calls me and tells me that the family is on vacation and that nobody will be able to come out until monday!!!!!!! WTFFFFF. I am enraged because I have been waiting ALL DAY with my son for these people who promised to be here and didn't. Do NOT call this company. I don't care what the other reviews say, they screwed me over bigggggg time!!!!! Its not FAIR!!!!! Shame on you HECOX!!!!!!!! read more

Also subsequent to the installation of our new furnace I learned that the price we were charged for the furnace we received was very high. I can no longer recommend them. read more

I don't write reviews unless the service is exceptionally poor or exceptionally great. I'm pleased to say Hecox is exceptionally great! Like most (older) homeowners, I've been around the block with HVAC companies many, many times over the years. I know just enough to know when they're full of it. Their mantra always seems to be "you need a new unit". Not Hecox. Twice I've had them out to diagnose and repair an A/C problem. Both times Eli came out (quickly), accurately diagnosed the problem, fixed it immediately for a very reasonable price, and did not try to sell me a new system (even though it's is over a decade old). Hecox is head and shoulders above their competition, and heartily recommend them! read more

This is both praise for Hecox as well as an apology. I called on a Thursday morning when water was backing up from our furnace into the basement. Hecox said they could come the next Tuesday at the earliest and understood if we needed someone out before then--just call if it gets fixed. A few hours later, another company said they could come the next day. I could go over everything going on in my life, but I'm an absent minded person (and in my 50s it's not getting better), and the bottom line is: I forgot to call back. Totally, 100% my fault. Hecox calls on Tuesday saying they're ready to come over an hour early, and I apologize profusely. We all know how frustrating it is when someone says they'll do something and then doesn't, and this time that someone was me. Hecox was gracious in accepting my apology. I'm sure they would have done an outstanding job, and obviously they were upfront about the timing and contacted me when someone was on his way. So for this one, I give myself 1 star, and Hecox gets 5. read more

I am not one to write reviews, and I hate how every time I buy something online, they want a review, but because Hecox Home Services is so awesome, I felt like I really needed to write a review for them. Hecox has been helping me with my heating and a/c needs for many years, and as an owner of an old house, there have been many. They are fast, reliable and honest. Today I was ready to buy a new A/C unit because I could not get my great room to cool off. Eli came and adjusted my dampers, and all is cool, both literally and figuratively. After 25 years, our gas furnace failed and needed to be replaced. We got 4 quotes for replacing both the furnace and a/c unit. Hecox was not the lowest quote but it was among the lowest. The person who came out gave the quote seemed quite competent and experienced and could do the job the following week, so we went with Hecox. The 2 guys completed the job in 1 day except for some finishing touches, came back the next day and finished up. They explained the new system, and patiently explained the new thermostat, which can be controlled remotely via wifi. They worked quietly and cleaned up thoroughly. We are totally pleased with the new equipment and installation. If we could give Hecox 6 stars, we would. They also trouble-shoot and repair HVAC. Hopefully our new system won't need repairs for awhile-- they fully guarantee their work-- but after the warranty period is over Hecox is the company we'll use for maintenance. read more

At the beginning of the summer, I had a different company come out and look at my air conditioning unit. He recommended that we replace it. I waited all summer long getting various quotes for the replacement. I finally called Hecox to get a quote. They told me that I shouldn't replace the unit and should just replace the furnace. This is a review of an unusually thorough home visit and estimation by Ely of Hecox. He was very knowledgeable and patiently explained the best options for the rooms I needed done. We have a room configuration that is challenging. He was fully conversant with the technical issues in maintaining electronically-managed models as well as conventional. The necessary electrical work is included in the bid, so I don't have to be a general contractor. He even referred me to an individual he uses for insulation work and other energy-saving upgrades, who can also explain my best options for Maryland home energy rebates. Gayle and his family did such an amazing job replacing our entire HVAC unit. Our unit crapped out on us on a Monday evening, and during the dead of summer. We got a hold of them late Tuesday and had a new unit installed by 6:00 pm on Friday. We live in a condo and accessing the inside and outside units were particularly difficult, but Hecox handled this without any problems. Really great experience with Hecox and Martin. We've had a buzzing/clicking sound coming from our electronic air filter and after I reached out to a number of services on yelp, Hecox was the only one to explain the issue and how to resolve it. They were able to schedule an appt within two days and Martin was great. They ended up replacing the electronic filter with a media filter and we haven't had an issue with that [annoying] static clicking noise again. Oh, and while they had the ladder on our 3rd floor (tall ceilings), they even changed a light for us, saving us some hassle there as well. My furnace quit working and a friend referred me to Hecox. Two Hecox technicians arrived within 2 hours and looked at my system. The problem wasn't obvious, but in short order, they inspected the furnace and found the problem to be a flame sensor malfunctioning because it was dirty. They did not have a new sensor on their truck but they were able to clean the old part and got my heat up and running. They spent nearly an hour and the bill was $95, not bad at all for a 2-man crew. Foney and unreliable..... Son stated dad was expert and recommended for HVAC service. Contacted dad who made appointment. Never showed and no call. Contacted dad again who stated he would be in area different day and make appointment. Never showed and no call. Called number once again only to have dad make excuse about my private line when he was give our contact number for the appointed. Glad I found out about this unreliable contract "before" i entered into any contract to loose my money to another dirty unreliable contractor that would not show up to do the work after payment as many contractors in DC are very guilty of.
