Been here about 3-4 times. Its related to Huckleberrys nearby which is cool, however service can take some time at Shellys. I'm not a picky eater. I even just finished at the gym. But the sausage patty was overcooked and not tasteful, hashies sucked (and I love hashies). Biscuit was a regret - dry and crumbling (usually go for toast, can't go wrong). I didn't even bother getting a to-go box and I am not the type to waste food. Poor experience, won't be back. Only went because of a nearby appointment. Gave it 2 stars instead of 1 due to previous better food experience but the wait time was definitely a trait. read more

This is a mixed review, I'm not certain i would come again unless a friend was dying to go, then I'd give it a second chance. The guy who sat us seemed to be in a rush & was not very personable. However our waitress at the bar was personable, upbeat & gave a great recommendation (crispy potatoes). The Baja bene eggs were over done, the caramel cappuccino tasted like coffee & creamer so I wasn't pleased. My husband's meal turned out better than mine which is good. Be aware if you're tall & sit at the bar, my knees hit. My advice, give it a try, maybe your luck will be better than mine. read more

Walking in we didn't feel welcomed. Place was freezing cold. Coffee was old. Service didn't meet the expectations. Felt dirty in the restaurant but we still sat down to eat. This place had high ratings which was why we came all the way here on our way to Tacoma. Food was in large portions which helped get it to two stars. Not planning on coming back unfortunately. We found a nice little spot about 10 minutes from the airport. You can dine in or dine out on the patio so it was our first choice during this CoVid season. It was very busy, but the food & service was great. It was a bit on the pricey side, but you definitely get your money's worth in the portion size. I only went once when they first opened. We had a simple menu question and the woman helping us said she was the owner. We asked about the bananas foster which I normally like but had tried at another Burien establishment we had heard this restaurant was affiliated with and didn't care for it. So I asked if it was the same recipe and instead got a lengthy lecture about how the two restaurants were in no way related whatsoever. It was in a nasty tone and at the end she said but yes it's the same recipe. Um... what? We are our meal, which was "ok" but never went back. Don't need that kinda negativity in my life. read more

My friend and I were trying to figure out a restaurant to grab quick dinner. I immediately thought of Shelly's restaurant because I always see this place near by my residence. I can walk up to the place, I swear. My friend ordered BLT sandwich with a side of potato salad. I had French Dip with French Fries. She said it was good. The sandwich looked decent to me. It was edible enough. My French Dip was good. I was able to consume without any problems. The only thing I had to take away was the French Fries. They weren't crispy. I let the fries go a bit too long by trying to consume the French Dip first, so the they became soggy. Anyway, I will come back to Shelly's again if I ever need a quick bite for my meal. Searching for a diner-style breakfast place at which to celebrate my birthday, the twins and I came upon Shelly's - and we'll be back for sure. Our food was perfect - over-easy eggs done just right, perfectly cooked hashbrowns, and crispy bacon. We ordered a waffle to share, and my friends told our server it was my birthday. Our waffle came out of the kitchen plated with a tiny stack of sliced strawberries with a candle on it, and our server (Shelly herself, we think!) led the other patrons in singing the Happy Birthday song to me! The food was REALLY good. There are 6 pages of menu options which felt overwhelming. I did ask if there was a reading test and prize if I made it through reading all 6 menus. There were 3 children working today and doing a great job. Gave a nice family vibe. Such a cute, friendly family owned place that makes you feel like home. Stopped by before heading to the airport hoping it would be fast and yummy and it was! It was a Sunday morning, I didn't have to wait at all to be seated. I got the lumberjack (omelette) with toast and hash browns on the side. The sign as you enter the strip mall states that "Shelly's - Thr best bloody Mary's in Normandy Park". I think I can say it should include Burien as well! We arrived before our friends. So as we waited we ordered a Bloody Mary and the bananas foster French toast. The bloody was so good! Spicy and not over boozy. And the French toast? Oh, that French toast.! We normally are not French toast people, but the description sounded enticing. The toast was not eggy tasting. It was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was topped with a most sensuous condition of caramelized brown sugar, vanilla and rum! The bananas were lightly sautéed in this luxurious creamy mixture. A bite taken with all components was pure heaven in the mouth. Our friends arrived as we were indulging and helped us finish it off! None of us are French toast people and we all said we would order it again! I had the Twice as Nice, which is a biscuit and gravy and one eggs Benedict with golden country potatoes. The biscuit and sausage were okay, not my favorite. The eggs Benny, however, was amazing. The hollandaise sauce was creamy, a nice yellow color, lightly seasoned with a hint of lemon. Cutting into the yolk, it oooozed exactly like a perfectly done poached egg should. My potatoes were ordered extra crispy, and seeing that they came in chunks, they were perfect. Also on the table were the special if the day, CFS, chicken fried steak served on a bed of potatoes and a farmers scramble. Although they did not get the scramble order right, she ate it and said it was delicious! All in all, no complaints here. One of our favorite places to come eat breakfast whenever we are in the Seattle area. Their lunch menus look amazing too, but it's their huge breakfast sweet love. Mixed together or made traditional style they have a wide choice of meat and vegan meals. Service is fast and portions are huge so make sure that you come with an appetite. read more

Being from AZ I like to have my eggs with Salsa, and this plate didn't impress me much. OK wait, I take that back, homefries was good...it was seasoned at least. Their homemade biscuit was dry. Arrived around 8:45a on May 17th. We were seated right away. Only a couple people in the restaurant. We ordered our drinks right away. Waitress took a long time to come back and take our order. I ordered the country fried steak smothered with gravy, eggs, and biscuit. The country fried steak was the worst I ever had. Not seasoned. Gravy was basic. Eggs were fine. I asked for house potatoes and received hash browns. She confirmed my order so not sure what happened. I would have made my own breakfast if I wasn't staying in a hotel. read more

Went to Shelly's one morning for breakfast. I have to say it was good -- I was not disappointed -- but I was not blown away, either. Shelly herself seated me, took my order and probably cooked my breakfast of a Twice as Nice -- half Eggs Benedict and half biscuit & gravy. It was fresh and fairly tasty but, given the price, I expected better. 13 Coins on International Blvd. has a half-Benedict for less, and the atmosphere is better. I have given this place a try 3 times now, and I can say after my visit today, that without doubt, this place is terrible. It took me 1 hour and 20 minutes to get breakfast this morning. The people in there run around like chickens with their heads cut off. The family waiting before me got served after me, and the couple that got seated after me go served before me. The side of bacon comes with 3 pieces and they will dangle off the side of the pig dish so that they are touching the dirty table. Everything here is consistently dirty, especially the disgusting menu. It was complete chaos today. At one point one of the servers brought me coffee that I never ordered. I was asked three times if I would like something to drink, and I said just water every time. The arrangements of the tables looks like it was planned out by a drunk child. The bathroom door doesn't close properly unless you pull it really hard. The paper towel dispenser just has a roll of paper on top either because it is broken or the workers are too lazy/scattered to replace it. The sink shoots out water with such high pressure that it is sure to splash all over you the first time you use it. The only decent thing is the food, but it doesn't make up for all the other chaotic and stupid things going on here. I can't wait to move to an area where people know how to run a diner. read more

The eggs dish had red onions and capers. Yum! The greatest area of opportunity was their cleanliness and deferred maintenance. This place is in desperate need for some cleaning. There is a difference between old and dirty. This place was both! It's time to invest in a remodel...come on! Your regulars deserve the dignity of a clean and upgraded place without torn cushions, flooring with scraped off paint and table laminate from the 70's. This was a 5 Star customer service place, but dropped to a 2 Star overall rating because of the neglected facility. You will agree with me if you take a chance with this place as we did. read more

Shelly's is a pretty good American dinner that caters nicely to vegetarians along with meat eaters. While I think of them more as a breakfast joint they do serve lunch and dinner and have a bar to go along with it. I opted for the veggie burrito, which was a seriously huge amount of food! It was well cook along with the hash browns that it came with. Diner was clean enough and the servers were a-okay. It's a pretty solid breakfast joint, but it's also nothing to write home about. Husband & I came for breakfast. Seated quickly at 10am but were handed a bunch of loose menu pages, which was kind of weird. For a 6 page menu, a booklet would've been easier to navigate through. The orange juice was from concentrate so my husband wasn't too thrilled about that. We ordered food & while we were waiting, he goes, "Is that a cockroach behind you?" Sure was! Just crawling on the booth. We got up, told them we just wanted to pay for our OJ because there's bugs roaming around, & left. No apology & still had to pay for gross juice. Initially, this place looked good based on previous reviews. We arrived and the hostess wasn't very friendly and neither was the waitress. I ordered the Waffle Special, and opted to add strawberries for an additional $3. Portions were good, however the food was bad. The bacon was burnt, the waffle was super rubbery and the strawberries tasted old and gross, and were not fresh at all. The same with my husband who ordered the pancake breakfast. My kid had the chicken and waffles and I'm not sure if it was just a bad food day, but same thing, waffle was rubbery and the chicken was hard and barely chewable. Went to Shelly's on Tuesday after picking up my daughter from the airport as we were starving. She looked at Yelp to find a place and she chose this one. When we walked in to the restaurant it smelled weird, the floor was filthy and the seats ripped. Our server was very attentive and busy. Both my daughter and myself ordered the pile, as they call it, with potatoes, bacon, sausage, ham and cheese with an egg on top. The sausage tasted rotten and sour, which pretty much ruined the entire bowl. The grits were watery and completely tasteless. We told our server that the sausage tasted rotten and she took the bowls off the check, but didn't comp the rest, which I found odd! I wonder if the health department has checked this place! We will never go back and I am very surprised that more people haven't gotten food poisoning! read more
