Buyer Beware! Believe the bad reviews here and know that there are more. I heard terrible stories, but thought Shelly wouldn't run a business so dishonestly. We purchased a prom dress in March and was told it would be ordered new and in by May 7th. It was not and when I asked for tracking information she said she didn't have it. When the dress finally "arrived" in mid-May, it was stained, had no tags and had pulls in the fabric. I asked if it was the sample. Shelly said no, but could not show us the sample bc 'they got rid of it.' With less than a month to go, we moved forward with alterations and a promise that it would cleaned and fitted. Ultimately, I picked up the dress less than a week before prom. It was still stained. Never sent to the dry cleaner, even after Shelly told me that she sent it to NYC for a special cleaning and I should be thankful. The alterations she did make were sloppy and the dress was poorly fitted. We took it to another tailor who could only make slight alterations to her sloppy work. He showed us how she only took-in one side of the dress!! Unfortunately that meant that the dress would be off-centered. I reached out to Shelly to express our disappointment and she didn't respond. Paid $1900 for a dress up front, was told alterations are included in the price no additional costs were to be charged. When my daughter went to pick up dress she wouldn't give it to her unless she paid an additional $150. Great way to ruin an exciting experience. Telling your customers they "should know" is not a way to disclose your hidden last min fees that you decide to pull out of your butt. Unprofessional and greedy to say the least. read more

I would give zero stars if I could still leave a review. I walked into this boutique with my 14 year old daughter looking for a dress for her semi-formal. When we first entered, the worker was in the back of the store appeared to be sitting and turned to look at us. As we started to look through dresses the lady came to me and said are you looking for a dress for you and I said no for my daughter and her semi formal. She glanced at my daughter and said we don't carry a 14 in short dresses and turned to walk away. My daughter - who was then embarrassed and obviously hurt by the rudeness of this worker - has been to many boutiques and doesn't even wear a 14. She just so happened to have on oversized clothing this rainy day. The worker was very interested when she thought the dress was for me - which I had on fitted clothing, which my daughter can fit as well - but completely body shamed my daughter based on a glance. I nicely put the items back on the rack and told my daughter to go. I wouldn't spend my money any where that body shames people - especially children. You were rude! There is no excuse for it and perhaps for 2024 you should go to a few workshops to have better customer service / people skills. Stay away from this store. Walk up a bit and around the corner. There is a wonderful boutique and owner there was a ray of sunshine and we found the perfect semi formal dress and ended up buying another dress for a sports banquet! read more

My daughter found a dress that she loved...I was leery because the stripes didn't match up at the seams. It was priced at $250.00. The owner wouldn't let me take a picture to send to my husband and claimed the dress was from "LA" so we left. Later that night we found the dress on Prom Girl website selling for $29.00. Please be forewarned as I know we need small businesses in our communities but selling an irregular dress to a teen with such a high markup and passing it off as a one of a kind from LA to sound cool isn't good business practice!! read more

Went there for a prom dress & my DD tried on a dress that was a size 8 from an overseas company. I was told it was going to be special ordered in her size, yet they took no measurements so that seemed "off" right away. I gave SG the benefit of the doubt and paid in full $700 plus for a size 6 dress to be special ordered. On the manufacturer's Instagram page we found out that the dress style was a Covid left over from 2020, so it was quite unlikely that the manufacturer had extra stock from 2020 lying around. I know this because I worked in the fashion industry for many years. I called after the promised arrival date and was told the dress was "on it's way". When I pushed for evidence of the promised delivery date, I was suddenly told "oh, here it is! In a box we just unpacked". How coincidental, right? We went in to fit, and I was still giving her the benefit of the doubt. They pull the dress out of a back fitting room with no manufacturer's plastic, or tags. I checked the inside of the dress and saw that the woven label was a size 8 and obviously the store sample they were trying to pass off as my daughter's new size 6 dress. They tried to tell me that my daughter's dress was lost somewhere in the store at first, and then that it actually hadn't arrived. I was so upset with the lack of honesty that I requested a full refund which SG gave me readily. Afterwards, I began an exhaustive search for other dresses but found that due to the SG issue that the other styles my daughter liked were now out of stock with the manufacturers. I eventually connected with a reputable retailer on the West coast who had connections with the original manufacturer and customer ordered my daughter's dress in a size 6, the last one in stock! It arrived 2 weeks from the time of my order as promised. I paid $200 less and got the original, brand new dress, in the right size for my daughter. Had SB just done the right thing and ordered the dress for my daughter they could have kept the sale even at their substantial mark up for the same product. read more

I went with my friends because we all have prom coming up and as we walked in the ladies that were there just stared at us and did not welcome us. Wow! Talk about rude. No greeting when I walked in. (The store was empty - no other customers.) Browsed a little - then tracked down sales person. Never asked me if I needed help. I volunteered the information I was looking for - I showed her 4 pictures of dresses on my phone. I stated I was looking for similar dresses - they did not have to be the exact same ones. She pointed one out hanging on rack & showed me one other dress. Then proceeded to tell me that there were none in the color I had shown her. I never stated that that color was mandatory. I then inquired about other colors and she said there were some on the racks scattered throughout the store. As I browsed I encountered a broken hanger - and carried it with the heavy gown over to her. (Instead of letting it fall to the floor.) Never thanked me for doing so or apologized for the inconvenience. I finally just left. I will not be buying my daughter's prom dress there. If you are totally independent and don't need any assistance, guidance, information on available sizes or colors and don't mind being treated rudely - this is the place for you. Whenever I enter a small boutique I expect to be greeted; customers in store or not. When my daughter and I entered Shelly Glam, we were never greeted. We were looked at and passed by, but never greeted. Customers were there; customers left and new customers entered...nothing. Please note, no one looked like us at any point while we were there. When I addressed who may or may not have been Shelly Glam, she argued me down and was simply rude! As we left the store my daughter began to cry and now that's when the whole matter took a turn and magnified the situation under a different light. When I asked my daughter why she was crying, she expressed how sick she is of constantly dealing with racism...and frankly, I am too...especially for my children. Tears we cry from pain, in many cases, leave a lifelong indelible mark. With that, I'm not sure if you were Shelly Glam herself or someone else...you know who you are. You left a mark. I had to take my niece for a fitting of a dress that my sister had already bought and paid for in full including alterations. A new dress was supposed to be ordered and at the fitting we were to decide how short to cut it because it was a gown. When we got there the dress was already cut and altered! Since it was a sequence dress I knew immediately that this dress was taken in quite a bit. This dress was the original dress my niece had tried on that was too large. Instead of ordering a new one the owner took in and altered the used dress. Unbelievable. She was very loud and aggressive when I told her the sequence didn't line up properly and told me that's just how they are. My niece loved this dress and since my sister had already paid for it I decided to take it without fighting with the owner. Before we left she charged another $100 for alterations and said we didn't pay for alterations when we clearly did. We were so shocked and annoyed at this blatant liar we paid the $100 and prayed that we never had to see this lady or walk into her store again.
