The most top-rated doughnut shop in Montgomery did not disappoint. We drove from downtown on a Saturday morning around 7:30am to get doughnuts from Shelley herself. Inside a strip mall, the space is well maintained but not fancy at all. Most get their food to go as there isn't a place to sit inside. There was a deserved line, but it moved quickly. Sadly, they were out of kolaches when we arrived, but they had plenty of doughnut, breakfast burritos, and breakfast sandwiches. The chocolate glazed doughnut was excellent in size, taste, and texture. The breakfast burrito with sausage hit the spot too. It's sizeable and comes with a slightly sweet salsa. Shelley's Donuts are the best I've had in a long while. I enjoyed the size of each donut and how it wasn't too sweet. They are wonderfully made by being thick yet airy and not overly chewy. The glazed donuts made me want to eat a whole box. They also sell the donuts by the dozen and allow substitutes of certain types of donuts. I was also able to try a ham, egg, and cheese croissant. Really really really good donut option right here. The place has always been well kept and the aroma of the donuts has your senses in a choke hold from you park the car. Super fair prices. A dozen assorted donuts was about $13. I went to a national chain grocery store a week or two ago for donuts, I paid $12 for 6 donuts. The grocery store donuts were not very good. These donuts were amazing and half the price. I asked for an apple fritter and that was my 12 th and final donut. Most places won't add an apple fritter in an assortment. I typically add it to the dozen so I get to work with 12 donuts not 11. Why does my picture have 11 donuts and not 12 , you ask. No picture of the Apple fritter, what? Why? The Apple Fritter was sacrificed to pay my delivery fee. It was a great donut. Very large with good frosting. It was on the thicker side. It had apple pieces as expected. I watched other people in line tell them which donuts they wanted in their assortment. Not every place does this. The shops has breakfasts sandwiches and burritos. They are good. Picked up donuts today and they smelled and tasted so much like acetone we couldn't eat them. I love donuts and wanted to give this place a great review but I think they should invest in an air filtration system or maybe move the food farther from the nail salon next door? I know acetone is a really strong chemical and can be smelled next door to many of the nail places around town, but it's concerning if it's affecting the smell and taste of actual food. I definitely don't want to see what happens if it's ingested. read more

Phenomenal donuts. Had a coworker bring these into work, and had to get myself some. Came at 11 and they were out of most, but she let me have the tray they had left and WOW they are so good. We were driving from Montgomery to Atlanta and needed a little morning roadtrip fuel! Found This place on Yelp - surprised it was the only local donut option. We got there around 9:45 on Sunday morning, and she only had about 30 donuts left!! I had a cinnamon twist and it was wonderful. Light and airy and covered with delicious, crunchy cinnamon sugar. Hubby had the chocolate twist and was equally enamored! There were kolaches and croissants on the menu but I didn't see any in the case - must've sold out. Highly recommend - some of the best donuts I've had and the price couldn't be beat. I typically judge a donut shop by its basic glaze and let me tell you, Shelly's basic glaze was amazing. Delicious Donuts!!! It's important to note that this is a cash only establishment and the hours are 0500-1200 daily, except Sunday is 0600-1200. They have a decent selection and great service. I picked some up for my office this morning and everyone is happy. I cut little slivers out of most of them and I have to say, usually I'm a yeast fan but that blueberry cake donut has me on the fence! The apple fritter is amazing, but I'd have to say it's a tie between the maple glazed and the glazed Bavarian cream donuts. They're all so delicious. They have kolaches too, but they weren't like the ones I'm used to. I now know that there are different kinds. These ones would best be described as a big pig in a blanket. I was not impressed, but some of my office mates liked them. The location is pretty easy to find on Federal and it's easy to get in and out of.
