We have been to every Shell Shack location in the area. Uptown is most likely our favorite location, but we are very excited that they are here in Mesquite now. They have been open for a month now and we were a little nervous from some of the reviews. However, we were pleased and the food was just as good as Uptown. We will be back often. read more

Wanted to try this place. We were seated promptly - staff were very nice and friendly. I got the catfish, but it was oily and seemed overcooked. My fiance got the shrimp basket - his was good. The fries were really good. Sweet tea was on point. We addressed the catfish to the manager - he fixed the problem. Excellent service! Our servicer Danika was genuinely friendly and attentive! The crab, calamari and drinks are excellent! The only 2 suggestions I have are to cook the french fries until crispy and use a higher quality butter for dipping. We ordered carrot cake and cheesecake to go for dessert -both were excellent. I've been coming to shell shack for years and have been to all of them. I got my normal The VIP. I was very disappointed because the the snow crab I received was smaller than I normally get, no only that it was missing two legs from one and another leg from the other and missing the cluster part. And my fries were burnt. They were unwilling to change it out. Save your money go somewhere else. read more

If you like seafood this is a great place. The food is really good especially the buffalo wings and the shrimp boil. When you pick your flavor try the kitchen sink, it's amazing. I am all for a new experience, but when I go to a restaurant the goal is to eat the food, not wear it. There is no way to put this other than to say it is like trying to eat from a pig trough. We are not new to eating Crabs, we have crab a couple of times a month... but we have never seen anything like this. And it's not a good thing. Fast forward to when we actually get the crab legs out of the bags and start trying to eat... well the food had been cooked a couple of hours before we got there and had been sitting. I just went to the new Shell Shack in Mesquite. Not impressed. I ordered garlic snow crab legs with a corn side. You can get Cajun, garlic, lemon pepper, or plain. After a long wait at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon, As she opened my bag of legs it had red pepper spice all over it. I said, "What is this" she said the Cajun. I said, "I ordered garlic". She took it back and as my grandson ate his I waited about 10 minutes and got what looked like the same red spice with garlic chunks in it. I said this is the Cajun again. She said no that is our base spice they all have the red spice base and we add Cajun, garlic, or lemon pepper to it. She walked away and I tasted the mix and it was too spicy for me and not what i expected or wanted. After waiting another 10 minutes, i asked a busboy for a manager. I told her no one told me there was a spicy red pepper base on everything and all i wanted was a plain garlic butter and maybe they should let people know that there was a red spice base to all of their flavors. I n about 5 minutes she brought me a plain looking tray of crab legs and corn on a wet tray. A side of melted butter and a separate side of garlic. I had to soak up the water on the tray with a bunch of napkins. As I took a bite of crab and corn, it was clear that all she did was take my tray into the kitchen and rinse them off and bring them back (that's why the tray was wet.) There was still red spice on the cob of the corn and inside some of the legs. Waitress was slow and never brought ketchup for fries and we had to ask for a fork (I guess they want you to eat everything including crab dipped in butter with your hands. I truly enjoyed everything about this place - great food, great service, great atmosphere. This is a get down and dirty kind a joint if you're eating the crab legs. Strap in a bib and go for it! I had the a pound of the king crab (I won't do that again), with potatoes and corn. Good Lord that was a lot of food. I finally said to Cortne (my server who is fabulous, ask for her), "please rescue me from my self"! She bagged up my remaining entree, and gave me tips on reheating. This place is usually a hit or miss. Today we went to celebrate a bday we had 5 adults and 2 kids so were charged the 20% which is not the issue if we would of got great service. I stayed with the same water the whole time. I never got asked if i wanted a refill. We ordered the kids chicken strips and for us the VIP. The kids basket came out with burnt chicken strips literally they were burnt with black spots. I waited for our waitress to return and nothing i had to get up and find her. In our VIP bag our shrimp were over cooked to the point the shrimp were rubbery and hard to eat. We were also missing a corn and that got fixed. We also ordered a round of shot for the bday boy which took forever to come out. Our tab was $121 and included a $21 tip which i wouldn't have mind leaving if the service was worth it. But if i have to get up from my seat to fix an issue with my kids food then we have a problem. I consistently come here for the boil in a bag to go. Sometimes my order is a hit or miss, they have forgotten my sausages and corn on an occasion and I had turn around and drive back after I made it home. Also they don't always put the right amount as requested, sometimes there is less shrimp or sausage. Also, I always order my shrimp uptown style (peeled) which makes my final amount, crazy expensive. I am glad there is a Shell Shack near me in Mesquite, but if another similar restaurant opens up nearby for lesser charge and same or better quality, I will take my business elsewhere. read more

Place has potential...I particularly don't care for boiled buffalo shrimp passed off as fresh shrimp. The waiter said it was fresh, keep in mind most people know the food they prepare at home. Most places fry fresh shrimp, it was not fresh...just ask before you order. I'm not in the food business so im relying on you wait staff. I now can hope the catfish is genuine and not some basa which looked good...For me getting this on my first visit is a no go. Dusti was our server. Very attentive and made sure everything was correct. The food was good. The crab legs were a little soft, but that can be expected when boiling seafood. The flavors are really good. We enjoyed the kitchen sink flavor the best (a mix of three different flavors). I had a burger, it was cooked correctly. The oysters are a bit pricey but I'm spoiled being from new orleans. We will he back. If you come in ask for dusti's section you'll be treated right. We decided to try out Shell Shack today after a long soccer practice and we LOVED it. I don't eat any kind of seafood but my husband loved it and he's very picky. The chicken was awesome! Horrible customer service as soon as you come in, hostess barely spoke...they didn't get the order right (kitchen's fault) and it was literally 1 lb of shrimp and corn... how could you mess that up. I asked for mild and got medium. My food was cold. How can you have seafood in a bag and it's so cold the sauce was like paste. Our waitress was a sweetheart and did the best she could to help our experience, but the damage was already done. Worse seafood experience I've ever had in Dallas! Wasted $50 (I had drinks too) the drinks were the best part. I was sooooo tempted to call and get my money back or talk to the manager while I was there, but I could already sense from the horrible customer service that they wouldn't care if the customer was pleased or not, plus I didn't want the manager to blame it on our waitress. Don't waste your time people. Go to red claw or the boiling crab to get your seafood fix. If I could give them a zero I would! read more

Went here for crawfish last week. Our waiter was awesome. He even brought out a live crawfish for us because we wanted to see it. Pretty pricey per pound and not as spicy as I like. They give you a bib, gloves, tons of napkins, and the table is covered in plastic. That was weird to me but it did help them with cleanup and kept me clean. The major issue I had was with the hostess. We walked in, first time there, and her appearance made me want to walk out. She was wearing an outfit that was 2 sizes too small and did not fit her body type. I don't want to walk into a restaurant and see your books and butt fat hanging out. If I wanted that I would go to twin peaks or Hooters. The rest of the staff was dressed appropriately which only made her stick out more. It was crazy packed when we went. This location opened not too long ago so I expected it to be busy. There was an hour wait for our table. I've been to both of the other locations and it was always delicious. The seasoning at this location seemed different...no enough flavor. It took quite a while to get our food out. I understand that is it busy but like I said I've been to the Plano and Uptown locations while they were busy and it never took that long for our food. Overall our waiter was attentive and helpful. I do appreciate that. I wish I lived closer so that I could give them another chance for redemption but I guess I'll just stick to the Plano location for now. read more
