Used this garage a couple of times and have mixed feelings. It seems that the work quality is good and the place is generally clean and professional. However, the repair bill tends to always be much higher than the initial estimate. Like half-again higher, which defeats the purpose of an estimate, in my opinion. Needham She'll has been taking care of my 2009 Toyota Highlander for a few years now. The owner is very well spoken and polite. The service has been quite good. They changed the struts and shocks as well as a number of other repairs such as a pump replacement, brakes, tires with alignment, stickers and ongoing regular maintenance like oil changes and new filters. Bought a INTERSTATE battery with a 5 year warranty here. Dead in 3..this week. Went back, was told that I would pay $90.00 to get a replacement. so, you get a battery with a 5 year warrant for $180.00 yet you go back in 3 and they tell you it would cost $90.00 to get the green (Free Replacement battery with the sticker on top from Interstate BATTERY)..but the gas station charges you $90.00. Tried to take my wife for a ride. Incorrectly failed her inspection, claiming License plate lights out, 2 brake lights out and "soft brakes". Verified for myself that the license lights were working and Another Mechanic verified that the brakes were ok. Only one brake light was out and a marker light they didn't catch was also out. I completely agree with the Yelper who suggested the owner is a clown. Buy gas here? Sure. Have an inspection done? Be careful, because you might get failed for no legit reason. Have any sort of repair done that requires a qualified mechanic? Nope. My wife had a four wheel brake job done here (1200$) and the front end of her Lexus shook like heck right off the lot. When I questioned Joey about it he got defensive and told me she doesn't know how to drive. Okey doke, captain misogynist. So we brought the car to JS Mobil in Newton to get it fixed properly and they resolved it same day. We won't be bringing our vehicles anywhere else going forward. Don't go here for a sticker. They claimed my exhaust was leaking. It was the slightest little crack near my muffler. It wasn't loud at all ended up costing me 800 to fix a damned old car which has been just about as loud the last couple of years and I never had a problem getting a sticker. I'll never go back here won't buy gas there anymore either. Please go out of business soon! read more

I went here is get my yearly inspection done. The inspection was preformed quickly. I had a dangly wire with a missing bulb that they charged me $10 to fix (overpriced, but that's usually how it goes when getting an inspection). My really letdown was that they had to removed my Buffalo Sabres license plate frame because it covered part of my registration sticker. OK, fine. (I've had the frame for years & never heard this, but whatever.) My issue is that they broke the frame & didn't even tell me. Sorry, but it's just rude. Even if you weren't going to replace it, don't act like a child and pretend nothing happened. I'll be going elsewhere next year. Also...gas prices here leave much to be desired. read more

I have brought my two cars for work big and small jobs here and i am really suprised what they can do, from open engine repairs to timing belt replacement, at very reasonable price. Pros: friendly staff, honest work / prices, usually can get you in for an inspection quickly Cons: sometimes the lot if very crowded with cars, and their office can get pretty hot in the summer All in all Needham Shell is great, seems like a nice family-run kind of place. I've had nothing but positive experiences here. They do inspections thoroughly so if you are trying to cheat your way through, go elsewhere. But the guys are honest and friendly and will explain to you why you failed inspection and how to fix it. I hope these guys keep doing business for a long time. read more

Joey is one of the nicest people in New England. I was in Needham dropping a friend off to work and my radiator fan went out. I'm not a mechanic, and I have a luxury car so I pulled into Joey's place (because I saw on his building that he specializes in Audi, BMW & Mercedes-Benz). I pull into the Not only did Joey fix the fan, but he fixed other things that needed to be fixed as well and didn't charge me anything extra. Also, there was so much I needed to do that day and he provided me with a luxury loaner car to handle all my errands, yet again didn't charge me anything extra. Good for gas or inspection but not great for repairs. I drove car in to fix diagnose power steering issue with intent to support local business. They originally diagnosed it as switch for $500 but then came back saying that they needed to replace entire steering column for $2k (more than car us worth). Got second opinion from dealer and mechanic which thought that it was overkill but since it was already in pieces had no way out. They did give a break by not double charging on labor. read more

These guys are great. Kareem has always been fair with us - and doesn't nickle and dime us. Example: Today I was changing light bulbs in my car (Do it yourself) and dropped the bulb cover into the bumper well. The staff was very helpful and guided me through the process of meeting my inspection (new tires and a headlight) which I was expecting for my old, but well-loved car. I was in and out at right around 2 hours! I spent time at the nearby Starbucks and when I returned, Joey spent time explaining the recommendations for my car (new struts) and whether it would be beneficial for my specific needs and plans for the car. I have serviced all of my familys cars there the past 6 years and although its not always good news when your car is broken they fix it quick and on the 1st try. He drove around trying to get help. Mercedes dealership where I bought the car wanted $600 for total replacement. Joey at Shell fixed the mirror and sent him on his way. I have a Porsche, Mercedes and Ford. Shell does it all. Small jobs big jobs, paintwork, service and repair. Cannot praise too highly. read more

Don't go here! It's a ripoff. I went in for an inspection. For the second time they said I needed my headlights polished for $40. When I told the owner this was a ripoff he immediately offered to refund the amount. If you read the reviews there's a consistent picture. People who come in for an inspection or oil change get ripped off. This may be how they make money in the short run, but it certainly is NOT HONEST. I use another mechanic for anything other than an oil change or inspection because I would never trust anything these guys do or say. I am female. Don't go here unless you want the aggravation. Had an oil change here about 6 weeks ago for $75/synthetic oil. Yesterday my oil light came on and I took the car to the dealer - when they checked it these guys hadn't changed the filter and just used the old filter when doing my oil change. Shame since I live down the street and have used them for all kinds of things. Not again and recommend staying away from here. read more

I came to the shell station because I heard some grinding noises from underneath my car. They knew exactly what the problem was right away. They quoted me the cost for the new under carriage (which was a dealer part), but also mentioned that it was only a cosmetic thing and they could reuse the old part by punching a new hole and screwing it back up in place. The whole thing took less than 10 minutes and they wouldn't accept payment for such a minute job. These guys are great, knowledgeable and know exactly what customer service is. They know what's really important and what doesn't matter as much, and won't hesitate to tell you. read more

I was there for inspection. My windshield wiper wa working fine, but the technician there said it needs to be replaced. I told them it works and looks fine to me. The technician also said a little back light for the back car plate didn't work. They charged me $8 for the job. I gave my credit card to the owner, he almost took it from my hand to swipe it. He said " whether it passes or not, You have to pay". Then, I was hesitating to sign on the merchant copy (inspection fee +8 for the backlight) He then said, "I don't need your signature", implying the money is already taken". read more

I brought my car in for inspection 2 years ago and needed a new exhaust and they replaced. Earlier this month my muffler started to go and I went to another mechanic shop in the town where I live but the price was high so I called Needham Heights Shell and spoke to Joey the owner. He looked up my info from the work done a couple years ago and told me to bring in to take a look and see if there was any warranty on the parts. After the inspection Joey called back to update me that the warranty was only 12 months but he felt bad the part already broke down so he gave me a fantastic deal on a very nice exhaust system and fixed another issue and bundled up into a very reasonable price, service included. I also met his brother in the shop when I returned and he was very helpful and super nice. Everyone working there gives you a very good feeling about being sincere and honest. Do not go here if you are female! They will ALWAYS try and rip you off. I've gone here for three years and have always been failed, when my male counterparts have passed. They think we are stupid, and are solely trying to take our money. The young girl in front of me also failed...no surprise there. I've taken my car other places and it'll pass, but here it never does. I refuse to pay anymore money here, and would rather get my car reinspected somewhere else. I changed my headlight one day ago, and somehow between me dropping my car off and picking it up my NEW headlight died. I checked it out myself and adjusted it and suddenly it worked again...big surprise the bulb was new and they clearly screwed with it. I will never go back to this place and DO NOT recommend it. It's time this place changes and stops taking advantage of women. I will not stand for it and I believe people should know about the discrimination that happens here. read more

I have come here for an inspection a couple times as it it right near my work. When I came last time I went to their website to see their hours which said they started at 7 am. I got there around 7:30 and was told they didn't start inspections until 8 (even though they were open and had employees there to do inspection). Also failed me over foggy headlights like other reviewer and tried to way overcharge to fix which I did on my own. I was frustrated about the time difference last time but let it go figuring they would update their website. I just came back for another inspection and happened to look at their website and it still says 7 am and when I got here they don't start until 8. If you are a business in the present day you have to have accurate information on your website as that is what people rely, and don't give attitude to a customer when they try to help you out with your conflicting information. read more
