But my car starves with regularity so I've succumbed to frequenting, thus reviewing gas stations, to fill "her" up. Running on veritable fumes, she and I, that would be we, pulled in to the first available pump off Westbound Santa Monica Boulevard and Veteran Avenue Jack-In-The-Box adjacent. Not comfortable with paying there at the pump, headed inside to estimate a full tank total with over-payment to be credited on my card when sale complete. It was. Terrible service with rude cashier who takes cash and then makes you move pumps because one is broken with no notice.

This is a new one for me. When I drove up to the station, there was a lit cigarette sitting on the window ledge outside the building. I thought, "Okay, sure, a deranged vagrant left a cigarette burning at a gas station. That's LA for you!" Then the attendant walked out, picked the cigarette up, and resumed smoking it. I had to laugh. At the same time, I filled up as fast as I could, which isn't very fast because the pumps here are still slow. A patron walked in and the attendant put the lit cigarette back on the ledge, maybe 20 feet from the active pumps, and headed inside to sell the patron a lottery ticket or something. Incredible stuff. Again, it's the cheapest Top Tier place in the area, so I'll probably be back. But I will try to use the pumps that are further from the office. read more

How can you write a one star review for a gas station. What could they do that is so wrong?. This is the worst gas station I've ever been to. I just found out from the young man that's working in the office the pumps pump at an average of 1 gallon every three or four minutes and this has been going on for a long period of time! I'm at 6 gallons now and I've been here for 15 minutes. Is this the craziest thing you've ever heard of? The management has their head completely up their ass and they're out for one thing, to try to sell gas and everybody is driving off. In 10 years of writing Yelp reviews this is only my second one star review. Bottom line, don't come here! Total MISMANAGEMENT. So, Yelp asks my opinion of this Shell. Oh, OK. It's definitely cheaper than most, so that's a good thing. But, the customer service, well, maybe you get what you pay for...? I've had a few occasions where just ODD things happen. The pumps sometimes go super slow. The pumps sometimes don't want to pump. I've had to go inside the shop and ask about it. I was rather rudely treated once about it like any idiot could do this... Once, I found someone's credit card on the pavement outside between pumps. Someone drove off, and I figured it was theirs. I went inside to give it to the Attendant, who seemed unfazed and not at all grateful. The other day, like sometimes happens, the Pump says to See Cashier before it would accept my payment. So, I have to pay X amount of $ and then pump gas. And THEN, return if there's overpayment 'See Cashier for Your Change'. Hassle, but OK. After giving my card and requesting a receipt (ahem), I fill the car. Sure enough, 'See Cashier for Change.' Only now, the Cashier is AWOL. Knock Knock on the glass. Nobody's there. Other people drive up. A couple is actively interested in buying something for their car like fluids or something.. They drive off. At least five minutes more go by, then the Cashier appears. Voila. Like he never left. I get my receipt for Change. And wonder, is this the way it has to be? I drive off, and down the block is a Jiffy Lube, where the couple from before were now getting whatever they needed there. Hey, there are worse things that could happen. Why does this station have two seperate listings on Yelp? Who knows? I will use this listing to give feedback on my most recent experience. I pulled up here a few nights ago as I was on my way home from Westwood Blvd. In dire need of gas, I remembered that this is one of my favorite gas stations in West LA due to their great price and hassle-free experience. Sure enough, this gas station provided the same great experience as it has throughout the years. The station was not crowded at all. I swiped my card, filled up my tank, and was on my way back home to the South Bay. It helps that this station is a few blocks from the 405 freeway. That way, I can fuel up here to head back home, or to visit friend in the SFV. read more

My go to spot for gas in the area. Gas is almost always cheaper than nearby gas stations. A little tricky to get to if you're going east on Santa Monica. Will need to make a u turn or be driving on Massachusetts. But worth it. Even better if you're a Ralphs member. Also the staff is pretty friendly. Came here for air once. Most places charge $1 for a set time. (Chevron down the street has it free but it is current out of service - not sure if just always out of service). But the guy here will let you get as much air as you need. This is not the case with the Mobil on Santa Monica and Sepulveda. read more

Extremely poor public Interaction skills. Gas light goes on, just as I'm about to enter the freeway. Bugger. I need gas. Prime location, just at the verge of the 405 South entrance. "Darn, this place is going to be a rip off," was my first thought. But surprise! No! Very reasonable prices, in comparison to the rest of west Los Angeles. What a relief; love this place. This is by far the *worst* customer experience I've had in my life. I had just filled up my gas tank (total was about $20). As I was pulling away from the station I see a message from American Express that I just got a $99 pre-auth transaction against my card. I was confused (having had the Amex for many years and never ever having any pre-auth transactions... you usually only see this on debit cards or some hotels or rental car companies). Anyways, so I call up the gas station to inquire what's going on. The guy who answered (the owner it turns out) asks if it was an American Express and I said "yes". He said call your bank, I don't know. I explained that this isn't normal and I don't want to waste time calling my bank. Since he asked about if it was an Amex Express I asked if this thing happens often and he says again "Call your bank, not my problem!". I said that's not how this works... his reply was a string of about 50 "no-no-no-no-no-no-no your problem, not mine"I replied back that this was a $#@@#! way to treat a customer and he said "You are f$ing stupid, call your bank and go away. Click". I call back 5 times and no answer. I drove back to the station and saw him there. The first thing I asked was if he was the manager or owner and he said yes. I told him I want an explanation on the charge and an apology. He essentially told me to go away, kept trying to ignore me and then threatened to call the police on me if I didn't leave! (are you kidding?). He refused to tell me his name or give any info. A couple expletives were exchanged and he proceeded to follow me to my car and record me on his iPhone! Unbelievable! I've been in contact with Shell Corporate. This individual has no business being in business and treating people like this. Stopped here 3/13/2020. Filled up the 20gal tank on my jeep and bought a puff vape for my nicotine addiction. Walked out of the "store", opened the package, and went to use the vape on my departure. Low a behold it doesnt work. Never had that happen, but I figure "what the hell, shit happens and it's a mass produced cheap/disposable unit." Go inside the "store" and tell the clerk what happened. Reviewing only on the drive-thru car wash. The wash is between $7-9 and does a decent job. I would've given it more stars, but the dryer is sub-par and doesn't dry long or well enough. Also, every time I go, there is a massive line of cars waiting for a wash...so it takes a long time. It's the only one on the Westside with a dryer (Lincoln & Pico has a drive thru car wash, but no dryer). read more

Be AWARE. This happened several months back but has served as a grim reminder as to why I'll never go back here. I paid with a 20$ for gas, told the attendant to put $7on the pump. The attendant placed $7 on the pump and only wanted to give me back $5 in change. For those of us not inclined in math, the cashier clearly owed me... dun dun dun, $13 in total, which means he shorted me by $8. When I protested his gross math error, he began to argue with me saying his drawer was closed. I told him he owed me more $$ and another customer came in line, so he obliged. California Law requires that gas stations give free Air and Water with purchase of gas. Because the "Air" is often broken at stations, I ask to use the Air before I pump. (customers are hard on the Air pumps and they are slow to be repaired) But unlike the review before mine they have had it working in the past most of the time. I buy gas at stations that provide air as a thank you to them for their services. I was personally offended that the attendant insisted I move my car and buy first and then back to the air station after. (I left and filled elsewhere. The last year, we were attacked 3 separate times by credit card skimmers- daily charges at random other gas stations for phone cards and such- to our credit cards of slightly less than $100 so as not to trigger alerts. I have to admit that it's a little tricky navigating to this location because of the way that the streets are divided, especially during times of rush hour traffic. But once you do figure out the best way to get around, this is definitely one of the better places in the area to buy gas. They're not many stations in the area, and this one has been around for many years (it used to be the location of an old Exxon before it was converted to Shell). Prices here are also pretty good, and slightly lower than other places you may find around. Pretty clean, and not too crowded as well. read more

I stopped by to pump gas and get a quick car wash. Unlike other gas / wash places, this place doesn't give you any discounts if you get gas and wash together. Nevertheless, the wash was decent and thorough enough for a drive thru. The dryer seemed to be a little weird. It was located as you exit but it was too low that I was afraid to pull under it without scratching the roof of my car. So unfortunately, only the front of my car was dried.
