I'm giving Sheena's 5 Stars for one reason and that's because of the potential. If I were giving Stars for food and service, I'd be hard pressed to give it one.
This restaurant has a great location. Everyone in Barnardsville lives a short distance from Sheena's and a large portion of the residents drive past Sheena's coming and going from their home. There is only one other option to eat in Barnardsville and the only place to eat after 5pm.
What a great missed opportunity for the owners. This place should be filled every night. The menu needs to be updated. A hot "meal" or two or three. need to be on the menu every day. I'd love the chance to pick up a takeout home cooked meal to eat at my house after a long day at work. Instead, we get a lot of fried food and lackluster sandwiches. My hamburger was dry and tasteless (although the tater tots were good.) I saw several people eating - but you could tell no one was enjoying their food.
And service? There really is none. The young lady at the register is the face of the restaurant. I'm sure she isn't Sheena. Is Sheena a real person? Is she proud to put her name on this place? If so, she needs to be out front instead of being in the back while customer are at the front counter being ignored. No hellos when you come in and no thanks for coming in when you leave. And what about a smile. The lady with the short white hair - is this Sheena? I've never seen a more dour person in my life at a restaurant!
Service is very slow. Waiting for your food allows you to look through the service window and it appears their is no organization. And the food is served on styrofoam with plastic utensils. Really? I know it saves time, but there were maybe 4 table eating at one time while I was there for dinner. You couldn't wash 4 plates? And FYI - I smelled like a piece of fish and a frenchfry when I got in my car. Is there ventilation in Sheena's?
As I said, 5 stars for potential. I'd encourage the owners to look around for some ideas of how you could upgrade, update and broaden the menu a little bit. There was an article in the Citizen Times that listed 25 restaurants where you could get lunch for $10 or less. If Sheena's could do this, she'd have customers lined up out the door every night. Why not fresh made subs? A soup of the day, especially on cold days - heck even on a hot day, I'd eat a good bowl of chili! How about a fresh pattied hamburger and/or a good hot dog served on a fresh bun. And sandwiches served on real bread - not stuff you buy at the day old bread store. How about a meat loaf, country fried steak, fresh made salads even? These are not hard dishes to make!
I have never run a restaurant before. I know it's hard work though. I know it's hard to get good people to work. But good restaurants that get it right can make money. If done right The community will support you. We need a place in our hometown where we can gather each night and enjoy a meal and talk with our neighbors at a restaurant that appreciates the fact we are there spending our hard earned money. Even on Saturday. If you were open.
I hope you take this review in the spirit it was intended. Sheena's has so much potential! read more
