First, a valve in the washing machine malfunctioned and flooded most of our ground floor. Then, a toilet leak on the upper floor caused floor damage on that floor and wall damage on our main floor. The insurance company and contractors looked after all of that. However, we recently received a letter from the insurance company advising us that they wanted a plumbing inspection and any recommended repairs before insuring us again. We called one of the big plumbing outfits who wanted to do what I believed was a lot of unnecessary work since our house is relatively new. Also, I wanted the work from someone in our neighborhood if possible. I found Shedrick the Plumber here and on Yelp. Shedrick came by, had a good look, and as I suspected, gave us a pretty clean bill of health. He did wisely recommend a pan and a drainpipe for our water heater. At the time, we discovered that our main shutoff valve was not functioning. The water heater work was straightforward, but the piping from the street to the shutoff valve had been damaged underground, requiring some special work to connect the new shut off. As he worked, Shedrick didn't mind me poking my nose in (I'm curious about that kind of thing), patiently explained all the issues, and knew exactly what to do. He gave us a good price too. Shedrick is my first call for a trusted plumber when my very old house has issues, and it's had a lot! I had a shower leak that turned into a nightmare where he had to go into the wall to replace the fixture. Other quotes were more complex (saying I'd have to remodel) and at least 3x the price. Shedrick is honest and fair about rates, and he is diligent in coming up with solutions where there isn't a clear path, as happens with old houses. Shedrick was friendly enough at the beginning but turned into a nightmare. I called him because our regular contractor was unavailable. After two trips, multiple hours of my own time wasted and unnecessary parts purchased without authorization, he had achieved absolutely nothing while leaving our kitchen unusable. I called Shedrick early on a Friday morning and he arrived within the hour at my place of business where we were having issues with our toilet. He was kind and thorough and his work was a quick fix for 24 hours. We were able to stay open that day for business. Unfortunately, our plumbing issue returned. The problem was deep in our sewage lines so a plumber was hired by the building's owner to resolve the issue. This is my second review for Shedrick the Plumber. It was Saturday late afternoon, I heard some water trickling but didn't think anything of it, until I walked by my bathroom and my feet got wet.
