We both had the slow roast beef with red wine jus. It broke apart on the fork touching it. Flavours were amazing and beautifully presented. For dessert I had a lemon and blackberry panna cotta with homemade shortbread. My mum had the apple crumble with clotted ice cream. We had a taste of each other's, but they were both delicious. I was almost tempted to ask for another dessert just to be greedy lol Overall. The service was good. Excellent food, great atmosphere and nice surroundings. Will definitely be back here before next week is out. Prices are also very reasonable for the type of food. Another excellent lunch here today. The food is so nice we've booked a table again for Wednesday. Can't wait to go back.

With Latitude Restaurant, the team of Akhil (front of house) and Amit (Head Chef), really have brought East and West together perfectly well and have fulfilled both the above definitions. Latitude (formerly Lolita), is in the leafy suburbs of Stranmillis residing at 66 Stranmillis Road, Belfast. It opened earlier this year in February. My wife and I decided to give it a try and chose Latitude as it really offered a true fusion between East and West cuisine. With the two little ones dropped off with grandparents it was our wee date night. We arrived around 6.30 pm last Friday evening (17th June) and ascended our stairway to heaven. The first thing that struck us was that there was lots of natural light and the signage was very elegant. When we entered the dining area it was a compact sized and nicely decorated dining area, holding 50 people comfortably, without being too obtrusive. Our waitress had the biggest smile I've seen for a while and was extremely welcoming. She seated us and took our drinks order. We started with sparkling water whilst we perused the wine and main menu. The wine menu was very extensive and offered wines of all calibre. We opted for the 2013 Rooks Lane Shiraz from Australia. This was presented to us by Akhil himself. A note on the menu, it's great to see the whole menu on one page albeit a rather large one!! We opted for a starter each and a main course each. For starters I chose Prawn Gratinee and my wife had the calamari. This came out after about ten minutes and was piping hot. The 4 King Prawns were served in a Spanish mini paella dish with warmed bread, wedge of lemon and on a square plate. My wife chose the calamari, which were breaded and served on a metal ladle holder with a green salad, wedge of lemon and garlic mayo all on a slate. My prawns were in garlic, chilli, wine and tomato sauce and all the flavours were discernible. The calamari was soft and perfectly cooked-not rubbery and the taste of garlic lemon really came through. Now I do prefer my food on white round plates but alas the slate and black square plate did not detract from the delicious starters. After about ten minutes of just chilling and relaxing, enjoying the wine (my wife was drinking as I was driving!!) our main courses arrived. My wife went for the Mushroom linguine and I the Grilled Chicken Supreme - with a twist...... The mushroom tagliatelle came out on a huge bowl and looked and smelt divine. I ordered the chicken but changed a few things. I substituted the bacon mash for garlic potatoes and the tarragon sauce for pepper sauce. Suffice to say my two substitutions were definite game changers. The garlic potatoes were certainly garlicky but had an Eastern touch mainly that they were cooked with a touch of spice- turmeric and cumin. This is a true fusion twist which worked so well on traditional garlic potatoes. The mushroom linguine was creamy and plenty of umami taste and the truffle oil was subtly present. We had little room left for the mouth watering desserts (indeed had to take the remnants of the linguine home). We did squeeze a regular coffee and a Bailey's coffee to finish the evening off. In summary the restaurant is very relaxed and the staff are attentive, I still cannot believe we spent nearly 3 hours there! We had all of this for just over £65. This is definitely a great place where East meets West. Latitude also have a private function room with a capacity of 50-60 people where you can have for free, but have food packages per person to suit your needs."

The food is absolutely divine and they even have a pianist playing beautiful music throughout the evening. We went here on a date and couldn't have picked a more intimate venue. The menu isn't overly long which I like as I always see about a million things I want, but here, it's nice and simple. I went for the Greshingham Duck which was absolutely perfectly cooked and my partner had the steak which was also cooked just the way he wanted it! Highly recommend Drennans for a nice romantic dinner, If the prices put you off for the evening menu, come between 5 and 7 and you can get the early evening menu priced an £12.95 for two courses and £10 for three, a real bargain considering a main will set you back about £17 after 7. And the menu is just as good!

We pushed the boat out at Christmas and did BYO in style with several bottles of Moet. Champagne in a restaurant at supermarket prices (OK plus corkage) - how fab is that?! It's a long narrow space which makes it feel intimate without the feeing that you're sitting on top of the table next to you. I went with a few raucous friends and at first was disappointed to be seated at a little booth right at the door. But it was also right at the (unlicensed) bar and therefore the cute waiters so all good as it turns out. The food is up-market bistro-ish. Things like smoked chicken salad, duck confit, scallops and black pudding. It's not the cheapest place to eat but remember that you are really saving on the booze. The hake main course for example is £17 but comes with potatoes so you don't really need a side order. Unless you are a glutton like me. There is a set menu before 7pm at £13 for 2 courses and £17 for 3 courses which I think is great value and which I am planning to try after a hard afternoon shopping. The best bit of my evening was the resident singer and piano player. Easy on the eye with the kind of deep raspy voice which alludes to some hard living. Fab.

Simple brunch menu and have to say was really tasty and efficient and all home cooked. I had wheaten bread with poached egg and Ballymaloe relish, the bread was from French Village and lovely and the eggs had runny yolks which I love. They do fresh smoothies and don't appear to fry anything as there was a choice of poached or scrambled on the menu. They also have soya and almond milk, (unsweetened almond milk) I was delighted as not many do this. The other half had a grill and nothing was greasy or left a grease mark on the plate and nothing was left on the plate. This consisted of toast, poached eggs (runny yolks) large mushroom and bacon. Was simple and effective although the table was very small for everything.  Nice and friendly place with friendly efficient service and also reasonable compared to other places.

Hence I ended up in Soul Food Cafe. It's extra busy, extra noisy and filled with all sorts of people and chattering kids. Cosy, warm, welcoming with table service and free wifi. Soul Food Cafe is homely and lovely with quaint art hanging on the walls. On my visit today I had broccoli soup and a ciabatta roll filled with hummus, onion marmalade, roast peppers and salad leaves. It was heavenly, proper warming comfort food on a miserable, rainy November day. The Americano coffee is pretty good and there are quite a few vegetarian options on the menu too. Thank you Colin W and Brian H for the excellent recommendation! I noticed they had a chalkboard sign up declaring their first floor BYO bistro is open Fridays and Saturdays and you can phone 028 9064 6464 to book. I'm returning - and very, very soon. Soul food indeed.

I went with the roast chicken breast which of course is all sorts of fancy on the menu. "Grange farm chicken, crispy colcannon, creamed celeriac, summer greens." Service was top notch. Wine list was decently extensive. And the desserts also looked amazing. Definitely a top notch meal and probably the fanciest I had in all of Ireland. The dining room was painted dark warm tones and had the feel of a cabin. We were seated immediately and placed an order for cocktails. Our table got the blood orange margarita, old fashioned, and white peach martini. The drinks were incredibly tasty and were such a hit that we ordered another round. For our main food, we got the house bread which came warm and crispy and was paired with delicious bread and olive tamponade. We also got the beef dumplings which in my opinion were not dumplings, but closer to a perogi. They were crispy and umami. Two of us got the chicken main and the other two got the pasta with beef cheek/mushroom and the fish with clams. Everything was amazing! All proteins were juicy and succulent; all veggies were prepared perfectly and seasoned well; and all carbs were complimentary to the dishes. To finish our experience, we ended with the mind blowing sticky toffee pudding. I have no words. I understand why this is such a popular dessert in the UK. WOW. Home was a 10/10 and completely deserved the Michelin recognition. We hope all travelers give this restaurant a chance - it will blow you away.
