I tend to mentally split restaurants into 2 categories - child friendly family venues and proper…read morenight out grown up spots. Tedfords definitely falls into the second category. I went for the first time a couple of weeks ago and really badly want to go back asap. The interior is just the kind I love, all starched linen tablecloths and napkins. The atmosphere however is not starched, well not at our table anyway and no-one complained so it must be the kind of place you don't have to whisper. Tedfords is famous as a seafood restaurant which fits with its location right down at the water in Belfast. I had smoked salmon, crab mayo and quail egg. Without the quail egg. If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll know that eggs make me hurl. The good news is that the waiter didn't huff or puff of look as if he felt sorry for me. The other good news is that the salmon was fab - delicate and beautifully flavoured. I felt obliged to have fish again for main course and boy was I glad. On of my group had recommended the curried monkfish and I now do too. It was sublime - the meaty fish was matched brilliantly by the creamy sauce and fragrant coconut rice. I was all full up with no room for desert but managed 2 spoons of the husband's chocolate soufflé with fresh (huge) strawberries. Bliss. Tedford's is certainly not cheap but for a special night out as a couple or with friends, it is my new must go to.

The ambiance is cozy, upscale, and yet makes for a nice place to hang out with friends. Go for the pork belly which comes as a big chunk of meat, perfectly seared and chewy. The monkfish was the standout of the night. I was congratulated for my menu prowess with a "best lineup of the night" comment, but I think the monkfish was the MVP. The lobster roll was crispy, buttery but not watery, and substantial without being overly fishy. The curry sauce that accompanied the dish, I could have eaten alone or just with the rice though the thick cut and well seasoned fish made it all the better. All around the mulberry bush, the monkfish was the best I've had. Dessert was this assortment of sweets that put together I think looks like a muppet's head. The peanut butter ice cream was delicious with a great balance of sweet and slight salty savoryness. The custardy chocolate was also excellent and on the dark side which offset the sweetness of the ice cream. The crispy biscuits provided a texture difference and cut through the sweetness to keep it from getting cloying. The service was a bit aloof though. Our waiter over-poured prosecco to overfill the glass, spilled wine on the table, and nearly knocked out someone with a plate.o the owner or employees.

The food here is absolutely out of this world. I'd been…read morewanting to try The Boat House for a long time, but since I live in Glengormley it was too far out of the way. I was bought a voucher to stay at The Crawfordsburn Inn, so I jumped at the chance to go to The Boat House for dinner while in that neck of the woods. 100% worth it, and I would go out if my way to visit again.

It's something a little special in Bangor, and sad to say it will be closing soon. Get here before the end of October for a final taste of their tasting menu. The service is warm and friendly and the staff where attentive. The glasses and plates were well chosen and very pretty. It was dimly lit with the music picking up the closer it got to closing time, some interesting tracks to. The whole experience was well put together from start to finish. The tasting menu is five courses, with your starter, fish, meats, and desert. The portions and pacing is perfect to leave you feeling satisfied but not over full. Each of the courses where we'll thought out and had very subtle flavours to begin, building to more powerful tastes near the end. A highlight was the compressed apple for dessert, which gave a strong taste of apple leaving a slightly floral note at the end. Overall a very relaxing and gratifying experience. I'll be sad to see this place go as I'd like more chances to try their food.

Beautiful food with quite a few Vegetarian options on the menu e.g. baguettes, toasties, soups,…read moreporridge, bagels, quesadillas, blackeyed pea and lentil gumbo. Today (3/11/16) I choose a daily special of spicy pinto-bean quesadilla with Swiss cheese, dressed side salad and coleslaw. The food was immense; fresh, filling, delicious and moreish. Service was brisk and cost excellent at circa £5 for my meal plus a bottle of mineral water. Grapevine's major drawback is the size, it's a very small cafe with few seats. Ambience is relaxed and there's some seriously cool soul music playing in the background. I will definitely return, but only outside of the hectic lunchtime rush hour.

The positives of Grapevine are there for all to see, it is in an excellent central location for both office workers and hungry shoppers. It also has brilliant outside seating. Smokers will feel welcome, as each table is equipped with an ashtray, which is actually something you don't see too often these days. Inside they have Special Boards literally crammed full of delicious lunch options. Whitebean Stew and Homemade bread caught my eye and it's definitely something I'm going to try on my next visit, provided it hasn't been scrubbed off the specials board. I love the seating set up inside; they have those big high benches with stools that face out and you can sit and watch the world go by while enjoying a coffee, bit of fruit or a hearty stew. Overall I think the Grapevine is an endearing wee café, it's got everything you want from a city center food shack - beaut grub and a relaxing set up, I'll be back that's for sure.
