Needed my lip waxed while in Seaside. Called many times with no answer even though it said they were open. Decided to just go there. Walked up a big flight of stair to find one receptionist on the phone. When she hung up i asked her if there was time for a lip wax. She said the stylist working should be there any minute. Terrible experience. Sherri had a flood at the salon so offered to come to me. Twice. Then no showed twice. Gave multiple excuses why she didn't show up two days in a row. This left me with no chance to get my hair done elsewhere for my birthday and professional pics I had planned. Shame on you Sherri! You should treat your customers with much more respect! I was only in town for 4 days total and she just wasted my time for half of that. After not showing up twice, her excuses were that she was "sick", had a "family emergency", and "no cell reception"- they kept changing to cover her story. I went here for a fill on my nails and we talked through the whole thing...laughed and it was the best experience I have had in a long time. No cuts on my fingers, and my nails look fantastic. I brought my mother in law here for a pedicure as a mother's day gift. Our stylists/techs (I believe they both were trained in most services) were very nice and personable. My MIL's tech was very conversational, while mine was more quiet (but just as nice and he did a great job), and they made us very comfortable. The only recommendation I would make to the salon as a whole would be to offer a beverage (a glass of wine or fruit infused water) to clients, as most salon/spas that I've been to of a similar quality do. read more

A friend was getting married and she set up an appointment for 5 mani's and 6 Pedi's the day before the wedding. We were told to arrive at 12:30 and we would be done by 5 for rehearsal. (originally we were supposed to be there earlier but I don't know if the bride changed it or the staff needed to change it). Anyways, we got there and there were 2 ladies there to help with our nails. Summer was so wonderful to talk to. She kept the conversation flowing and upbeat. The coworker that was supposed to help left after the first pedicure and was gone for multiple hours. Summer kept trying to cover for the other lady saying that she had to run home and change and a few other things. I am pretty sure i heard them mention that she was doing someone's hair earlier and that's why she was gone...however I can't be certain so I'll assume what Summer said was the truth and she really was having a rough start to the day.The lady finally arrived back to do a set of acrylics at the end, which she tried to get the bride to decide against because they tend to take a long time. Three girls still needed their nails finished by the time 5:15 rolled around. The lady who had been MIA for the majority of the time told them to come back right after rehearsal and they would be there to finish the nails. My nails did get painted but honestly, they weren't painted even or well. I thought about asking if I could have painted them myself but again, Summer was SO sweet I didn't want to be rude. I paid a total of 30 for a manicure and 45 for a pedicure plus tipped 10 dollars because I felt horrible Summer was left to deal with a huge group of people on her own. That was just the basics, no shellac or anything like that. However, it did come with a paraffin wax dip for the manicure and that was pretty cool! After rehearsal the girls went back to finish their nails and pay but there wasn't anyone around at the salon ( from what I was told) and so after calling and walking around the salon they finally left. Finally at about 9pm the employee called the girls back and told them to come get their nails finished. Luckily the wedding was weekend was pretty relaxed and they were able to just leave and finish their nails. I will say this, they were kind and didn't charge the other girls much for their services. I think they realized what a mess the day turned into for us. The quality of the nail paintings was pretty crappy. However, the bride's acrylics looked nice and at the end of the day that was the most important thing to me. I think the best part of the whole experience was meeting Joy, the receptionist who kept my mimosa's coming and talked to me about her family. Oh, and we got to get the turtle out and play while we were in between getting services. I was already not thrilled with the prices I would be paying but to not get quality was the worst part. There was no one in there and then I asked her where a good place to go would be and she told me that there is a place called A 1 but whispered "it's not a good place" I'm pretty sure I asked where another good place would be and she recommends a bad place!?? I went to have Sherri do a weave on my hair. I'd had it done previously with Jenna; she did a great job, but is no longer there. Thinking since Sherri is the shop owner, with more than 20 years of experience, she would surely know what she is doing. That wasn't the case. I came in with very light blonde hair and left with a horrible reddish blonde that's NOTHJNG like I came in with. In sections is 'hombre' and others it's like a leopard. In some areas the bleach bled and it's a mess. She didn't leave the bleach on long enough to lighten it as much as it needed to be done. She went by the length of time I spent under the dryer instead of checking to see if it was lightened enough. I sent her a text expressing my displeasure and have received no response. I'm now faced with trying to find someone that knows what they're doing and specializes in color correction. She was being 'shadowed' by a potential student for the beauty school she'd like to open. Perhaps she needs to learn processing and weaving before teaching someone the wrong way that she's doing now. What a huge disappointment, not to mention the inconvenience of now trying to find someone that can undo the mess she created. read more

Went in with my Aunt who was visiting in the area. She wanted a bit of pampering after a long trip and to ready herself for a business conference. I was familiar with the building, as I have done business with some of the other tenants, so figured it should be OK for her to use. WRONG!! Now my Aunt is far from picky and is one of those folks who oozes grace and always tries to find the best in everything and everyone. The fact that she was speaking ill of this spa / salon really speaks volumes. Her main complaints were centered around the professionalism of the staff. I will exclude naming names, but inappropriate language, gossip, and defaming talk about others in the community really soured her. Her stylist seemed to have her own ideas of what to do and turned what was requested as "just a light trim to clean it up", took off way too much hair. Very overpriced. Thank you Shear Pleasures for making me regret supporting your business. I know that times are tough and your location doesn't get a lot of foot traffic, nor exposure. (Second Floor location, poor signage, parking issues, etc.), hence why I was generous enough to show you some "local love". You have to step up and bring professionalism to the table. I went to Shear Pleasures Salon & Spa to get a mani/pedi 2 days before my wedding this August & what a blessing that was!! A few weeks before my wedding I made the horrible mistake of getting gel polish done on both hands & feet at a different salon. What the lady there failed to tell me was that this was not just regular gel polish. No, this was basically gel cement (like super acrylics) that I am now assuming were never meant to be taken off EVER. After spending a full hour of trying everything under the sun to get this gel polish off, Sheri finally had to resort to filing the damn stuff off of my nails one by one. She pulled this off beautifully and without damaging my nail beds at all. When her other appointments arrived & she was not finished, Sheri graciously sat me (& my cousin who was also getting her nails done) in a massage chair & fed us bottomless glasses of wine (which helped keep me from hyperventilating &/or completely losing it) until she could get back to me. Hours later when all was said & done, my nails looked beautiful & what could have ended up my worst wedding nightmare was completely avoided. So how much extra was I charged for this obviously professional service that turned into hours of tedious & difficult work? $20!!! My cousin & I probably drank more than $20 worth of wine during the whole debacle! Needless to say I left a fat tip. Thank you, thank you, thank you Sheri & Dee Dee of Shear Pleasures Salon & Spa!! What a GREAT experience! My fiance brought me here for my 40th birthday, as a total surprise. I didn't know where we were going, or what was happening. He had set up a whole spa package for me and I was floored by how wonderful it was, and how thoughtful he was to pamper me like this. First stop was 20 minutes in the sauna, to relax and warm up my muscles before the next step, a 90 min. massage. It was hot. HOT (1st sauna experience) but felt so good and cleansing. I wasn't really prepared as I had no idea I was going to a spa, but just a tip for you long-haired ladies: put it up, somehow. I was a sweaty, wet-haired mess when I got out of there and it can't be awesome to touch me after that. But, next came the best part: the massage. By the way, if you've never had a 90 minute massage, it's worth treating yourself to get one. Amazing. I was so relaxed by the end, and truly felt better for days afterward. My shoulders felt like they were inches lower, and even my hands and feet felt so much less tense. Wonderful! Then, 20 min in the jacuzzi tub. It was in the same room as the massage, so I just shuffled over and plunked myself down in the warm water which had a lovely cheese and fruit plate ready for me next to it, and a glass of wine. It was sooooo nice! If I had one complaint or suggestion, it's this -- you have to climb up to get into a deep tub like that, and doing that and stepping down into it are a little risky -- especially with massage oil on your feet. I'd suggest a step, even a stool next to the tub, to make that a little easier and safer. What an all-around wonderful experience. I was hot, relaxed, and glowing by the end of all of that. Hmmmm... My best friend somehow got the idea in her head that she wanted to get tinsel put in her hair. So here we were, on a road trip down the coast and she can't stop talking about getting tinsel put in her hair. We went from small town to small town, searching for salons that provided this service. I'm obviously not in the know about the latest hair adornments but luckily we found this spot during our stop in Seaside and they had hair tinsel! The service was nice enough but it seemed that even though they had the tinsel which was a plus no one knew how to put it on. My best friend was ecstatic when they told her that it would only be $10 seeing that they were charging almost $3 a strand back at her salon at home. She went ahead with the tinsel decoration. It took about 45 minutes for approximately 20 pieces on tinsel because many of them kept falling out. We walked out spending $20 for 20 pieces of tinsel and tip. Within an hour they were falling out. Definitely not worth the money. We won't be back here but we also did not try any of their other services. From what I saw, the space looked expansive with many rooms that were decked out for some serious hardcore pampering. If I were local, I would definitely give them a shot. They offer many services including facials, body wraps and massages. read more

I took my four daughters here to get shellac nails for my wedding. They had a very limited selection of colors and when they went to apply the shellac both ladies missed many areas of their nails and got a ton of shellac on their skin. When they went to place it in the UV lamp it burned their skin. They looked horrible. The very next day all of the shellac peeled off. Shellac should last up to at least a week if not two weeks. Very disappointing as this was part of their gift for the wedding. I realize that this is a small town but my 11 year old can apply polish better than this salon. read more

This review is for Dean, who did my 90 minute massage. He was amazing and one of the best massages I've had. If it wasn't for him, I would have been sadly disappointed with the spa. I received a mani, which took her almost 1 hour and 20 minutes and it didn't look great :( to her credit, she wasn't supposed to do my mani, and stepped up to do it. The staff also seemed pretty scattered. My husband booked a mani and pedi but they couldn't give a pedi because of their disorganization. If this review was for Dean alone, I would give 5 stars. Nope. I booked a massage Beth and was asked to call her to confirm the appointment. When I did she was really rude to me on the phone acting like I was bothering her and very annoyed. Then she arrived 25 minutes late and did not apologize. She launched into the circumstances she was facing when I called her. I suppose to excuse her rudeness. I confronted her and said I thought she owed me an apology and she yelled 6" from my face as I lay naked waiting for a massage on the table. She stormed out of the room after accusing me of bringing a grey cloud to the massage atmosphere and continued gossiping about me and MY toxic attitude to the clients and staff at the front desk. Not a terrible experience but not the best. I felt like the haircut was being rushed and after getting home and really looking it over I can tell it most definitely was. The razor part isn't long enough by about an inch, over one ear has no hair while the other has some hair which is blatantly obvious. Lastly I asked for a skin fade which means exactly what it says the hair fades into skin but I still have hair on the bottom. On the plus side the staff was very friendly and the price was reasonable. I'm still debating on wether I'll return or continue my search. read more

I arrived and proceeded to wait for 30 minutes after my appointment time to be brought in for my pedicure. No one ever went over prices with me, the polish was old and clumpy, the chairs were so old they squeaked and pedicure was sub par. I saw the previous review and I was a bit concerned, but I needed to pick a hair salon in the area because I was getting married on an Oregon beach mid-day on Saturday. Miss Dee Dee (cosmetologist & hair expert) came in early Saturday morning (9:30AM - they open at 10AM) into the salon to do my hair. I have very long very frizzy hair and because I live on the East Coast and I had just flown in for the wedding I didn't have time to do a practice hairdo, I just had a few pictures with ideas of what I would like. Dee Dee was super enthusiastic and helpful, very excited about her job (as one would want people to be) and open to my feedback and also "what the hair tells her". My hairdo took exactly one hour, as promised (so that I would stay on schedule for the wedding ceremony), and it was gorgeous - and held well on the beach in the wind, while being flexible, not spiky... exactly what I wanted! The salon owner (I think) came by around 10AM and, upon learning that I was getting married later in the day, offered to make me a mimosa too! Seemed like a nice local place with regular customers but also excited and talented staff, I highly recommend it! I didn't get any of the other services of the salon & spa but they seemed to have many rooms with massage table, incense, etc - things one would expect from a salon. Sheri and Summer were great fun to hang out with the morning of and got 3 of us gussied up for my wedding - I was very pleased with my hair, and it held up through pictures on the beach, a windy ceremony on the lawn, and square dancing. They don't call it "90MPH hairspray" for nothing, apparently! Since the lip color was at its end, they left the tube with me and I liked it so much I think I'll buy more (this is high praise from me, I know next to nothing about makeup but this stuff stays on and looks very natural) The trial appointment was helpful and I'm glad I had it so that we were totally on the same page for the wedding day and could get started right away (it was included in the price for bridal hair). As I learned in our wedding planning process, there are not that many places on the north coast that do hair and makeup and will travel to your home or hotel, so do book in advance if that's what you'd like for your day (we contacted them a few months out, and they were very accommodating as the numbers shifted down a bit with some people deciding to do their own hair/makeup). read more

I love the looks of the place, however, the manicure (with Shellac) was the worst manicure I have ever had. The young man that gave me the mani was very nice however, the polish had many blobs on the tip and sides of my nails. He tried sanding the most obvious down but didn't have time to do the rest as he had another appt. after me. The polish started chipping after 1 week, other places last me 2-21/2 weeks. Very disappointed, I will not be back. I live in Portland and will make sure I get my nails done in town before heading to the coast. read more

I was referred to this salon while traveling through Seaside, OR - what a GREAT experience !!!! Very caring staff - I had a gel manicure by DiDi and she was not only very proficient and professional, but was also very friendly and customer oriented. Not to say that I've not had a great spa experience before, but I think when one is traveling and therefore at the mercy of a referral, it's especially wonderful to experience a wonderful experience. We plan on traveling this way again next summer, and I'll DEFINITELY look forward to another great day at Shear Pleasures and will look forward to seeing MIss DiDi again !!!!!! read more

I've been coming here for several years- sometimes in the summer and sometimes in the "off season" Massages have always been great- usually with Dean. He understands how to work out sore muscle tension after a long hike or how to give a soothing massage. Sherry always does a great job with my hair which is fine in texture or my daughter's very thick hair. Both my daughter and I have manicures and pedicures. Different technicians over the years but always a nice job. Very friendly service. Years ago we had gone to a different nail place in town and we were not satisfied. The salon is upstairs in a cool old building right in the middle of the Seaside action. I was greeted kindly and offered a lovely cup of tea. Thinking I was about to get a wonderful day of pampering with my boyfriend, with a couples massage, pedi, and fill to my nails. I was terribly wrong... This was by far the worst way to spend my vacation. The massage was not bad, and the owner was super sweet. However, sweetness only goes so far. No where in the world does it take 3 and a half hours to get a fill. That's just insane. Not only did it take over my whole day, my boyfriend was forced to wait for me. Because they said we would both be done in two hours. After spending five hours there, I feel the difference of three hours is a little much. And that would all be fine and dandy if my nails didn't look like complete crap, they are uneven, poorly done, horribly painted with my skin painted as well. Thank goodness when I get home, I will have to pay again to get them done. This whole experience was defiantly a nightmare. read more

Oh man, this was a great experience. I've never had a massage or anything fancy like that before. So for my birthday I splurged on their biggest package. Which involved: sauna, massage, facial, Mani, pedi, shampoo, style and makeup application. I felt so taken care of! Dean was amazing! My body felt so relaxed afterwards, all the tension from the stress in my life just gone! The rest of the time I had DeeDee for every thing else. She was so attentive and fun to talk to! Also complimentary mimosas and snacks, what more could you ask for?? Really a great place to go, and will most likely come back especially for massage if I visit Seaside. The only reason I'm giving 4/5 stars is because once we got to the hair and makeup portion, she seemed to be trying to rush and I felt less taken care of as I did the rest of the time. I was here visiting my daughter and was closing a chapter in my life and wanted a new me, so I made an appt for my nails. I had Didi and she was so very nice but I have had nails put on for 20 something years and I can tell if someone doesn't have the experience and she did not! My nails were all clumpy and she didn't sand them properly! When I first got there I did ask if they could color my hair and style it since I wanted a new look! I asked for highlights and Megan was the one available I asked Didi if she was good and she said she does her color and I really liked her color so I went for it!! Well she bleached my hair so bad that she fried it and I was blonde, red, brown and I don't know all the other colors!! I liked it, but when I got back to my room and could really see it in true light (their light was dark in the salon) I was in tears!! So I had to search for someone to fix the mess! I did find someone in ocean park that was amazing! I paid 160.00 at this salon that was horrible!! What ever you do don't waste your money on this place!! read more
