Always jumped around as my schedule never allowed me to plan ahead and keep a consistent stylist. Met Tasha for the first time yesterday, and I think I'm ready to commit! I was a little hesitant with how this was going to go as far as an experience when I was checked in. Initially, I didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling that I was going to be taken care of however it all ended well. When I walked into the lobby I see the wood and leather adorned waiting area with plenty of chairs and magazines to keep one busy. I was greeted and quickly checked in. The concern of how the visit was going to go was mainly based on the receptionist seemed pretty busy and somewhat distracted. Once I watched her in action I realized it was me reading into it and a non issue. I was offered and served a drink and quickly whisked away with the stylist who did an amazing job. She took time to notice my neck needed trimming, a bald guy with a beard rarely notices the back of his neck, and she took care of it. Most places would have done what was asked and moved on. The stylist Nicole seemed great when I first met her, but she did a complete turnaround. I have been very pleasant and generous with her to say the least! She always got a generous cash tip (close to 50%), and I've given her gifts for her 14 year old daughter as she is a single mother, and my only child is furry and four legged. I'd already given her sterling & amber mother/daughter pins and then found a lovely antique delicate gold and garnet necklace in my jewelry armoire which I felt would be a wonderful gift for her to give her daughter. I wrote her daughter a card, wrapped the pin and asked my husband to give it to Nicole when he went in to see his stylist, Bea (very talented and nice). Apparently, Nicole opened it and blurted out "I'm not giving this to my daughter, I'm keeping it for myself". One might think she was joking, but I called there recently to make an appointment for a shampoo/blowout. I guess the front desk was busy because Nicole answered the phone. She didn't even mention the necklace so I brought it up and asked how her daughter liked it. Nicole's answer was "I decided to keep it for myself". I don't recall hearing the words "thank you either! On another note, she dresses inappropriately (her tops very deep cut exposing much of her breasts). I can't believe that "Shear Elegance" salon lets her get away with that! Her workstation is near where my husband's stylist's station is. He is very fond of his stylist and agrees with what I have written. I have no other issue with the salon (except for the front desk always boasting about how popular Nicole & their other stylists are), but under the circumstances they have unfortunately lost me as a client. read more

Went to the Ballantyne location to get a cut since my barber is on vacation. Keeping the name of the stylist to myself, everything seemed to be going well until she began to use her clippers on the back of my head. As you can see by the picture her clippers are not in any shape to be used. I didn't realize it was as bad as it was until I got home and looked in the mirror. She didn't allow me to even look at my hair in the back of my head once she was done. Seems like she knew she had really done a number back there. She even said, "I think I knicked you right there." I do NOT recommend this place as it's truly not a barber experience, nor a true salon. I have never experienced a haircut that has left me with any kind of cut and I get my haircut every week. I paid for this experience with my credit card, so my experience can be verified. Stay away! read more

I have 2 cuts in Shear excellence. First one was horrible. Second cut was OK. just OK. but had to ask the stylist 4 times to finish drying my hair after shampoo. It was a cool day. Front desk is equally disappointing. The atmosphere is very unprofessional , cold, and unwelcoming . I am very disappointed with spending$66 for my cut. Will never go back. read more

The girl that answer the phone told me I needed one because they being having ppl not showing up and the styles needed it to get pay for their time which I understand, however we all have things in our life's and sometimes things happen. I had a guy who had been cutting my hair for years. He moved to uptown/downtown Charlotte so i wan't going to chase him around. I looked online for somewhere to get a good cut. I actually lucked out finding this place. Standard cut...wash...neck trim...etc is $39 which is more expensive than the $20 i was paying but it's worth it. Get the hot towel while they wash your hair too...money. Tiffany is who cuts my hair now and she is really good at what she does. I can get in and out in 30 minutes with a solid cut. She only works on Saturday's but usually you can call around 9am when they open and get a spot same day. I cheated on her one time when she was on vaca and it wasn't as good so lesson learned. They have beer here but I usually get a cut prior to noon so I haven't tried anything. Overall...a great experience each time and I walk out with a haircut I like. read more

Last time I had my haircut here the stylist who cut my hair didn't blend the sides into the top well, and the neck was uneven. It looked a little silly, especially after a few weeks. Not incredibly pleased with the quality of the haircut or the service. Not sure what happened here. The stylist mentioned she was only working at this location temporarily, along with a few other stylists. Also, I was told that there were notes left from the last stylist so that this new one could review. Guess that wasn't the case as I had to try to describe what I needed done, which might be the most frustrating part of getting your hair cut. Really bummed about this experience, especially since I could have gotten the same quality cut from a chain for far less. read more

October 3, 2017. RUDE RECEPTIONIST. Treated me like a vagabond for attempting to return a product. Err on the side on caution if you're purchasing any products here. Verbatim: "we're unable to return any products that left the store... (unless you have approval from management)." I walked to the car and noticed the awful smell. I proceeded back into the store after 3 minutes and wanted to return an UNOPENED $20 bucks Paul Mitchell Reformer pomade. The ideal met with disbelief and a palpable awkwardness that I would ever want to return a product. After being treated like a vagabond begging for money -- I left with the product and will ALSO BE LEAVING AS A CUSTOMER. Thanks whoever was the receptionist wearing the grey shirt today. Well, I came in with long hair brushed back asking for a thinning on the sides, so it wouldn't fall down over my ears. I came out with a haircut that was chopped short and uneven, with my head looking like a lightbulb. The lady who did this to me (she didn't introduce herself) kicked me out of her chair when I wanted her to adjust what she did. Sara took over and tried to fix it, however I started hearing things like "it's your hair and not us" and "just let it grow and come back". They were unable to cut my hair decently and at the end wanted to charge me 40$. I don't recommend the experience. Try somewhere else. read more

She took the time to literally feel my hair before beginning any cutting so she knew exactly what to do and how my hair grows. The hospitality overall is great, too.
