I had never had a roof replaced before, so I was somewhat uncertain of how to proceed. I used the roofing calculator site, which was a mistake, and was immediately inundated with aggressive companies giving wildly variable estimates, and pressing me to sign with them. I remembered someone in the past had used Shea Roofing, and I was impressed with the appearance of their work at the time. I contacted Shea roofing, and was immediately impressed with the quick and efficient estimate I received, and their price was the most reasonable of anyone I had contacted as well. I took about two weeks to decide, and Shea only contacted me once during that time, to verify that I had received their estimate, without any high pressure tactics. I went ahead and signed with Shea, and was very pleased with the entire experience. Bill Shea and everyone else that I dealt with was very friendly, and informative about what would be involved. The work was done in a timely fashion, and very professionally. Their workers were very polite, and cleaned up the site after every day's work. Our journey with Shea Roofing has just started, but so far, it's been fantastic working with them. We're in the process of a lengthy roof replacement for our large complex, and it'll be a little while before we actually move forward with the project. However, when we were getting initial quotes from various roofers, they spent the most time on our roof (and actually made return visits) as well as gave us specific issues to look at for the roof replacement. None of the other roofers gave us this level of time and service for an estimate. And their estimate was very competitive in pricing. Meanwhile, they were able to come out and take a look at a roof leak we had (one of the reason we're looking at replacement) and they narrowed down the issue to a roof drainage problem and took care of it quickly and efficiently. So far, my experience working with Shea Roofing has been nothing but stellar. I just had Shea roofing redo my house and garage and it only took a few days and the price was very reasonable. Bill came out and did a thorough inspection of the roof and his assessment concurred with other people that had come out. But he mentioned my lack of proper ventilation in certain areas and made great suggestions. I told him that my previous roof that had only been done by someone else 15yrs prior was done on the cheap and that they had used faulty material-- all the granules had come out from rains exposing the fiberglass. He made sure that he'd install excellent materials with an excellent warranty, both for workmanship and materials. Blake, super nice guy, oversaw the installation. Oh, and part of the roofing process is that they provided a porta potty outside for the workers. No one needed to ever enter the house. The job was done quickly, efficiently, and cleanup was great. I called them and was able to easily schedule an appointment for a roof replacement estimate. The rep came out and did a solid job inspecting my roof and talking to me about my specific issues. Most other roofers just came out, measure led the roof and give me an estimate. They didn't communicate well. I even followed up with them about insurance related issues and they were super helpful. Awesome guys! We had a wind vane blow off in the recent windstorm and we needed it fixed, which admittedly is probably a very small and easy thing. Update: A few days after my review was posted and I had given up hope and already made repairs myself, Ken Shea showed up at my door. He seemed bothered by my persistence but kindly explained the higher than usual volume of calls they had due to the heavy storms. He took time and care to inspect and patch what he determined were problem spots on other parts of my roof unrelated to their work since I had already repaired the newer roof myself in anticipation of more heavy rains the following weekend. He was friendly and professional. I do acknowledge this is an unusually busy time of year however my viewpoint on this experience is weighed against the fact that they had come out a year prior and inspected the very same area that was problematic and told me they would return to repair it only to never to show up or return calls until most recently. read more

We live in an older Burbank house that was built around 1940. When we bought the house in 2015, we were told that we needed to replace the roof sooner or later. It had 3 layers of shingles atop old-fashioned wood shakes. Shea Roofing was not the lowest bid, and it wasn't the highest bid; they were right in the middle. We liked their businesslike approach, and after checking their license information on the state website, we hired them. They were outstanding i every way. In the heat of summer, they first sent a demolition team to remove the three layers of old shingles, along with the wood shakes. They did this in one day. There were 12 guys, at least, doing the work. The next day they sent another team of 12, to lay down the plywood and new shingles. We have a detached garage that was included in the project. The shingles were laid in one or just over one day. We highly recommend this company for residential roofing needs. read more

I wanted to give this company an excellent review as they came highly recommended. Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience. Similar to other reviews, they did not come through for me. I waited a month to get an estimate. Curtis came out and spent all of 10 minutes on my property and said he had all the information he needed to give me an estimate. However, the estimate never came even after contacting Curtis via text. He assured me it would be in the following week, but no estimate and no call. About a week later, Bill Shea showed up at my property unexpectedly. He rang the doorbell and proceeded to take a ladder and access my roof. When I realized that someone was on my roof, he introduced himself and stated that he needed more measurements. When he was done he said he would have an estimate for me in a few days. However, that didn't happen. I sent him a text to follow-up, but no reply and have not heard from them since. Needless to say, I wasted my time waiting for this company. I have since hired another company and now am looking to have my roof replaced in February vs December as originally planned. read more

Tried to hire them in 2019- Bill came out to scope out the project, promised to send the estimate in a few days....... Then NOTHING. We called, texted and emailed for MONTHS trying to get the estimate so we could hire them. ZERO reply. Tried again in 2022. Exact same behavior. Bill comes out, we discuss best roofing material to replace entire roof......and he disappears again. How the hell this company stays in business is beyond reason. I was so impressed with Shea roofing. First of all I had called several companies and Shea roofing was the first to come out. I was so impressed with the very professional proposal. It was typed up while Bill was in his car. I was given the proposal in detail. At that point I knew I picked a great company. I had 3 other appointments so I met with them. I was not impressed with any of them. My girlfriend told me to look no further as she and 3 of her neighbors used Shea Roofing and stressed that I was in the best of hands that they are excellent. This is the third time I called Shea Roofing. Both times they came out the same day and gave me a written estimate that was considerably less than the other two roofing companies I called. Their guys showed up on time and did more than I felt I bargained for. A big shout out to thank Shea roofing for helping me. I was having an issue with my homeowners insurance not wanting to renew my policy. The insurance company was not accepting what I was telling them about my roof and said that it wasn't acceptable. I contacted Shea roofing and they were nice enough to come out at no charge to inspect my roof, determined that there was nothing wrong with it and gave me something in writing, along with a data sheet about my roof to submit to the insurance company. Because of what they did, my insurance company, reviewed the information and reversed their decision and will be renewing my insurance policy. Shea Roofing was the middle bid on our roof replacement project, but I chose them because they are local to me and also because of their excellent reputation. Well, let me say up front that we made the right choice! The tear down (we had a layer of 3 roofs) was efficiently accomplished by a well-supervised crew of 12 who showed up exactly when they said they would, and when done they performed an excellent clean-up. The actual new roof installation was one craftsman and one assistant, and once again they worked hard to complete the job right on time. The roof looks great, we have had multiple neighbor positive comments already. In fact, once this COVID-19 pandemic passes, my next door neighbor is going to have his old roof replaced by Shea Roofing, he was that impressed. We are currently going through a series of rainstorms and have not had a single leak; such peace of mind is very comforting. I am going to start with I never got the chance to even initiate service with this company. Called to explain that my boss was looking for a roofer to help his parents in the Alhambra area. Though the young woman did confirm they do service Alhambra she also mentioned they were 2-3 weeks out since they were busy. No problem. However I tried to explain that my boss wanted to have a conversation with a technician or the estimator beforehand to tell them exactly what to do since his parents don't speak any English. The girl's response... we are too busy to do that. To me that seems pretty lame since your current job, if done right, won't be needing you again for a few years or so if you do good work so how do you bring in new business if you do not make the time to chat with potential new customers? I'm sure they do quality work the reviews below speak very highly of this company but I am not impress. Hoping you all receive better service at initial contact then I did. We discovered serious wind damage on the back edge of our roof, which folded the shingles back several feet, exposing a good amount of tar paper -- and this is a NEW roof just installed last year. Bill and his team came out to fix it and mentioned the nails used on the new roof were a tad short, and that longer nails are a best practice. I am very busy dealing with a high stress job and other life matters (like a leaky roof) but since you decided to reply publicly on yelp- here is my response: You mentioned that I "insisted because Yelp said so". How impolite and not true. When your office personnel said they don't service my area I simply replied in an email that your website said you do "all types of roofing in and around the Los Angeles for 30 years" and your coverage map on Yelp and your reviews come from L.A. If you did not want to do the estimate which now is very obvious; you should have never come out. I take exception to you saying "I insisted" as though I was bothering you. All that being said- your company may do quality work but I taught my children "Spend your money where your money is welcomed". I stand by my review and again your reply cements how I feel.
