Biscuits and gravy (tasted way better than it looked!)

While staying in Cass over a weekend, we are at Shay's (formerly The Last Run) for dinner and for breakfast. Granted, restaurant options in or near Cass are limited, to say the least, but we would eat there again. The food was nothing special, which is to be expected in a more remote, sparsely populated area, but the prices are great--like pre-pandemic prices. Nothing we ordered was unpalatable, although I wouldn't recommend the pulled pork baked potato, which featured nacho cheese sauce and overly sweet pulled pork that was obviously prepackaged. The sandwiches and burgers are a better bet, and the wings and appetizers were decent too. Breakfast was overall much tastier, so it's a good place to stop in for a home style breakfast before a train ride if that's why you're visiting Cass. The service was quick and friendly, and the ambiance is unique.

This place is conveniently located where you wait to board the Cass Railroad. We stopped by after our long drive up. The burger was good and honestly I reaalllyyy enjoyed the chicken tenders! You have to order fries separate and for us 1 order to share would've been enough. Service was good but it took awhile to get our check so we just went to the counter, this also meant we didn't get refills on our drinks. Not a bad spot for some food before or after your train ride, but I wouldn't go out of your way to come here

Great Tasting food Waitress was attentive and kind The gift shop and the restaurant made me feel like I was mining coal all day and came in for a good lunch break I'm pretty sure I met Gail Lewis

The special and a side of pork

Going back home from a successful trip to snowshoe and my family and I were looking for a quick snack shop when we stumbled across shays. The last run is connected to a cute gift shop (called shays) with the coolest games, candies, and the nicest staff. When we sat down for our meal in The Last Run, our server took care of us very quickly with constant check-ins. The food was delicious. I highly recommend stopping here for a quick bite!!

Good food reasonably priced. Ver good breakfast and great sandwiches. Only wish they used real plates and silverware.

Two stars for the service, but the food reminds me of the cafeteria from grade school 30 years ago.

Foxfire Grill - Snowshoe, WV…read more Visited in August with family and our dog while in Snowshoe, WV. Foxfire has a dog-friendly outdoor patio, which was a big plus. The setting is lovely -- Snowshoe Plaza had a car show that day, and the surrounding area is worth exploring. In winter this is a ski hub, but in summer it's still a great spot to visit. We waited about 20 minutes for a table, and the food took at least 30 minutes to arrive. I ordered the full rack of baby back ribs with baked beans and sweet potato fries (sharing with someone else). The good: The baked beans were fantastic, and the sweet potato fries were some of the best I've ever had. Most of the food tasted great overall. The bad: The ribs were completely blackened and burnt throughout -- not just a little char, but fully charred. I've attached a photo for reference. Burnt food not only ruins the flavor, but it's a sign of poor execution and attention to detail, and over time it can be unhealthy. Overall, the location is great, the service was decent, and most of the food was solid. Unfortunately, the ribs knocked this experience down for me -- enough to take off two stars. Hopefully next time the kitchen cleans up their act. Rating: (3/5) Last visited: August 2025

I had the pulled pork sandwich and fries, and it really hit the spot. Portions are generous and the flavors are satisfying, especially when you're craving something hearty and warm. It can get pretty busy, especially during peak times, so expect a bit of a wait and slower service. That said, the staff is usually friendly, and once you're seated. If you can grab a seat by the window, the village view at night is a nice bonus.

Outstanding farm-to-table dining in Snowshoe…read more For anyone visiting Snowshoe Mountain and hoping to find a truly elevated dining experience, Appalachia Kitchen stands apart. The concept is simple but well executed: locally sourced Appalachian ingredients, seasonal menus, and careful preparation. In an area where "upscale" dining often leans heavily on pricing instead of execution, Appalachia Kitchen focuses on what actually matters--quality, balance, and consistency. Highlights included: * A perfectly cooked filet paired with root vegetables and a rich, restrained sauce * Thoughtful plating without unnecessary theatrics * A wine list that complements the menu instead of competing with it * Attentive service that feels professional but relaxed One standout moment: the staff happily accommodated a custom French press paired with vanilla gelato and chocolate chips--a small detail, but one that shows how much pride they take in the guest experience. Snowshoe attracts visitors from across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, and for many, this will be the memorable meal of their trip. If you're deciding where to spend your money for a special dinner, this is the restaurant that delivers on both quality and value. Appalachia Kitchen sets the benchmark for what higher-end dining in Snowshoe should be.
