NTB-National Tire & Battery

NTB-National Tire & Battery

Buying tires, in general, is expensive. Which is why often we have them patched or only replace two…read moreat a time. Service is also at a premium of money and time. These places are busy and stay busy. I have found it is always a better outcome, when possible, to shop for tires online and then have them shipped to a shop for installation. This avoids the frantic decision making of picking out something because it is available and thus compromising on warranty, quality or prices. Please keep in mind, none of this is a critique of my experience with this branch. It's merely a commentary on how I approach this process. Regarding my recent experience: communication with the shop was efficient and effective. They answered calls quickly, described their current workload and scheduling concerns clearly, and maintained a pleasant, professional demeanor. Due to a snow storm, my shipment was delayed a couple days. Since I had ordered the tires independently, none of this blame in delay fell on them. (Even if I had ordered through them, realistic expectations have to be kept. These guys aren't driving trucks over from Indiana.) Once i had been notified that my tire shipment had arrived, I called the shop and made sure they could get me in and finished on that day. I then arranged towing through OnStar. I sent my keyfab with the tow driver and waited my call from the shop. With about 2 hours left in their workday, I got my call to come pickup. A short Über later and I was at the front desk with an hour to go. Now here is the important part. Don't bail on the review too early... The technician slid the bill across the desk to me. My eyes, of course, drew immediately to the bottom line where, to my dismay, I found a total more than 3x my expectation. At that same moment, the technician clearly explained each line item, breaking down how he had discovered the object logged in my tire. He then patched it and rotated the set for me. I thanked him for his hard work on my behalf, however, I was the guy who had a set of tires shipped in that day. He apologized and slid my key back into his hand. He explained that he was going to have to let his boss know there was a mixup and to please bare with him a moment. I saw him go over and say a few words to his manager before immediately leaving out the door. The manager quickly wrapped up his phone call and came over with a pained look on his face. He, of course, now remembered my call and what our plans were. He apologized and asked that I please have a seat as they would take care of it right away. And they did! By 6 o'clock close the manager personally pulled my car up with its new tires installed. And with a final apology handed me the key. I asked if I needed to sign anything for him and he started that he waived the charges due to the mixup and my inconvenience. Now, I don't expect that this is the type is place one should go to if they are looking to get a free ride. But my recommendation is this, and I believe it a strong one: go here if you want to deal with someone with integrity. There are a dozen different ways this could have been managed in a disagreeable fashion. What I found was a team who was willing to own a mistake and work hard to deliver a good outcome. They didn't put it off or displace blame. They just went to work, right away, to do the right thing. No need to ask me what I wanted to do about the problem... They knew what I wanted. They just got about the business of delivering the service I had asked them for in the first place. And to top it off, they put a value on my time spent inconvenienced above the time they spent in effort. If that doesn't speak volumes, I don't know what does. You might choose to take your business some where else, to your folly. For my part, they have earned my loyalty.

I've had forgettable customer service at businesses before and as long as the person is competent, doesn't screw anything up and doesn't offend me then I'm good. I won't run to push people to your business but I'd probably come back. That's not the situation here. I pulled into the bay and was asked what my mileage was, no warm fuzzy welcome but, so be it. The young man got my mileage (asked me to turn the car off) then walked away, didn't say, I'll be right back or anything, just walked away. Next a young lady walked up and immediately tried to pry open my hood. I asked if she'd like for me to pop it for her and she said yeah. So hood was open and she opened the cap for the oil and then walked away also. For probably 10 to 15 minutes my wife and I sat there while the young lady was tending to another car and the gentleman was standing around looking awkward. I did see him grab a couple windshield wiper blades for another car. Around 20 minutes later they finally approached my car. While the tech underneath my car was finishing his part, the young man I dealt with earlier came to get my debit card for payment. I then whispered to my wife "I bet they don't top off the fluids, do the signal and brake light test or put air in my tires. Sure enough the gentleman ran my debit card then handed me the receipt. Now on the left hand side of the receipt you'll see all the services that are normally done, the services that you paid for (circled in red). Those include Tire pressure, brake fluid level, power steering fluid, 12V battery, windshield wash fluid, coolant reservoir, service indicator, etc. Since I've watched everything that was going in since I pulled my car inside the garage I knew they had not performed all of those tasks except for the oil drain (which I'm really trusting and hoping they did) I asked the gentleman if they still top off fluids and he said yes, he also told me to my face that "they've already topped off my fluids" LIE. I then asked do they still put air in the tires, he then ran and grabbed the hose and filled my tires. Just to humor myself I went home and checked my coolant reservoir. I had maybe an inch of coolant, MAYBE. NOTHING WAS TOPPED OFF AND I WAS LIED TO BY "Donnie". I ran to Autozone and spent 20.00 for coolant and as horrible as job as they did or better yet DIDN'T DO, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't fully complete everything with the oil change itself. I called later to file a complaint with this store and was sent a 20% off coupon. Lol...that's laughable to think you want me to come back to spend more money to give you a chance to screw me over AGAIN???

Wow. Where did my 5 star review go? Great friendly customer…read moreservice. I use B1 for our companies fleet tire work on trucks and trailers. This crew has done a great job with keeping to appointments, and communication. I usually like to drop off and let them call when it's done. On times where I have waited, the newly expanded waiting room now has a flat screen TV, free WiFi, free coffee, and vending. On occasion I have also used their road service. They showed up when promised. Do the work in a timely manner, and clean up before they leave. Again very friendly. Did you know B1 does more than just tires? I've also had brakes and shocks done here. Although the company owner may have expressed sticker shock to the amount of work I was running through B1, they have now come around. B1 assisted in helping to work out a proper system of vehicle inspections. Now with good shocks and brakes, the tire wear is even and proper. It's like a triangle. All 3 have to be working properly, or the wear and tear is costly. On a human side... I saw an employee tell a family of 6 that their motor home tire repair was complete. While everyone was piling in, Dad asked "how much?" "Nothing. Have a safe trip." That's right. They didn't live here. No repeat business. B1 simply repaired a tire for someone pro bono. B1 didn't know I could hear the conversation, or would ever write about their kindness. Now on my own personal side... I needed tires for my own personal vehicle. B1 helped make suggestions and price breaks for a good package. While researching these brands online, I was hit with the epiphany that the current tire had done great at 100K miles. Why not get the same again? Unfortunately B1 could not get close to a special promotion by a competitor. In true honest, friendly fashion, they told me that I should jump on that deal before it ends. That's why I keep going back, and telling others.

I went to this location for a tire rotation, and I believe they did a good job with that. However,…read moreI also asked them to replace my hubcaps, and unfortunately, they were not installed correctly. By the time I got home, they had fallen off somewhere along the way, so I ended up losing $60 because of it. I also tried to use the warranty on my tires and showed them the original invoice, but they apparently couldn't figure out how to read or verify it. Instead of helping me, they told me I would have to go back to the location where I originally purchased the tires. What bothered me the most was the customer service. While I was there, another customer had a question about what he was being charged. He was being polite and simply trying to understand the charges, but the manager raised her voice and yelled at him in front of everyone. It was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional. Overall, I was very disappointed with the experience. The tire rotation itself seemed fine, but losing $60 because the hubcaps were not properly installed, not being able to use my warranty even though I had the original invoice, and seeing a customer being treated that way is enough for me not to return to this location.
