Newport's Shaws supports a fairly large town in Newport and surrounding areas, allowing for some competition among grocers. Prices are, although generally standardized across the food market, more reasonable here than at our home base down near Lake Sunapee. Their fresh vegetable section is enormous. They also have a fairly large meat and fish section. One of their best features is the Manager's Specials allowing for significant savings. Last time at Shaws. I used to spend my money shopping at Shaws almost daily I was there but no more. I don't want to get anyone fired people have bad days but my days going there are done. Having a convenient store is no longer a priority to me as good customer service and respect are. read more

Yesterday I did my weekly Shaws shopping. There was an item that was advertised in the Shaws for U that was unavailable, so I went to the customer service desk to ask for a raincheck. Apparently the woman didn't believe that there was a lack of product because she went to the aisle to check, found I was correct and when she came back she stated there would be restocking "later" and refused to give me the raincheck. I replied "I am here NOW, not later"/ All she did was shrug her shoulders and walk away. I will now go out of my way to shop at the Shaws in Walpole or Springfield VT. I have been going to Newport since I moved to NH three years ago, but I guess customer loyalty is not valued there!!!! One final thing, it takes me 30 to 45 minutes to get there from my home. read more

I live in Newport and as often as not travel to Claremont for my groceries. The prices at Shaws are not competitive. The "sales" they have insult the intelligence of customers and are always like "buy two for the price of three and get one free or some such nonsense. Lines are often backed up and service is lackluster. The must treat the help with the same disrespect as the customers because I get the sense that their enthusiasm has burned up long ago. A good employee union might help. I need something at this moment and am curious if my opinion will be changed tonight. I will try it one more time because it is the only game in town and I guess Shaw's management knows it. read more

I absolutely love the shaws in Newport NH I have been going there as long as I can remember .the store looks great and all the changes are very nice .I was very glad to see that my fav employee is back. Lauren is wonderful girl and always willing to go above and beyond for anyone and has a great smile for anyone that passes by her way .I would like to know she is acknowledged for her hard work and dedication to you're store in Newport. Crazy high prices. I only stopped here for one item but will not be coming back unless I absolutely need to.

Worst store and management. Awful customer experience will never shop or recommend anyone go there.

All Shaw's have the same prices that are at their flagship stores in Boston and Cambridge, MA. Unless one wants to pay thru the nose, only their sale items are a deal. Sometimes their sale price is more than at other grocery stores. Have seen their "Stock up sale" price $1 more than a week or two ago. Now 11/25/18 they want $2.50 for a half of a head of leaf lettuce. Squeeze it and it's all air. $6 a lb for burger? That is just as laughable. "Let the buyer beware." read more

Awfully high prices to the point where I had a good laugh walking through the store with my sister this afternoon.

I've always hated this store. I worked here. It is a joke. Even more so than a small chain I worked for in Windsor, VT. What prompted this review though was a special they had on shaved ribeye for 2 weeks. It was five dollars for a pound of finely shaved glowing red shaved steak. It was pretty good and we enjoyed our homemade steak and cheese subs. However 2 weeks later I wanted to do it again for myself as I had the house to myself. I did not see any at Shaw's where I saw them before and had time to make the drive to Claremont. I got some of their in house shaved ribeye and it looked great and was $4.99 a pound. I only got a half pound and things came up and didn't get made. The next night we needed dinner so I went to Shaw's to get some burger or something to mix in to stretch the shaved steak. I went into the meat department and saw the shaved steak this time on sale for $6.99, a yellow sticker either plastered over, or in a few cases stuck on either side of the previous 2 weeks red 5 dollar sale sticker. That is just criminal. If fresh product was brought in and it was, "marked down" to $6.99 from $7.99 that would be one thing and understandable even at a much higher price than the competition. But the $5 sticker left on for the world to see is just a disgrace as some packages had a pool of grease and (maybe?) blood pooling in them. I couldn't believe it. Even from Shaw's. How can you do that? If anything you mark down product that is on its way out. Way down in the state of this crap. Due to my situation I find it a great inconvenience to go to Hannaford or Market Basket the next town over however after this alone I think I will have to have the patience and make the effort. Just the natural looking color alone of the competition product would have you swayed. There are better Shaw's stores out there but it doesn't matter after this experience. That is truly disgraceful and am insult to anyones intelligence. I frequent the store out of necessity and notice what is on sale etc... That was so shameful and ruined a dinner... read more

Absolutely terrible. Management is clueless and the lines take forever! Don't waste your time, drive to Claremont for Market Basket. Night and day experiences and completely worth the extra 15 drive. read more
