The meat selection is fantastic and the quality is excellent. Only once did I have a bad experience with the meat that I bought and my wife and I have been shopping there for well over 1o years. Their meat dept. is the best that I know of for the price and selection. The store is always super clean and organized. I can tell the staff there work very hard to maintain their high standards. I have been in other grocery stores nearby but you can't beat this one. My wife and I will continue to shop there as usual. read more

I've always enjoyed this Market Basket in Claremont, NH. I especially like their pre-prepared deli section where you can buy tasty calzones, eggplant parmesan sandwiches, soups, fingers sandwiches, and burritos. The employees are friendly, the aisles are meticulously-stocked, and there are some really interesting products if you look closely. The downside: it's always busy, no matter what time of day, so plan accordingly. They have been doing a great job during Covid of getting people in and out safely with their groceries. This is a great supermarket and has the 2 other stores in the area beat on prices (Wal-mart, Hannaford's). This is a huge store with all the bells and whistles of any large grocery. Meat, cheese shop, deli, seafood, its all there. The produce is super fresh, as they do so much business they literary can not keep it on the shelves. This store is the most northern store of the MB chain. This space used to be a Kmart, which built a bigger store next door in the late 1980's. read more

Let me begin this by saying that I not only have a Masters degree in management, about 3 years experience in recruiting and staffing and I have worked in two separate grocery stores where I worked hard and enjoyed the time I spent there. Recently, I decided to apply for a part time job at this location to earn some extra money for personal reasons. I arrived for the interview about 5 minutes before my scheduled time. When I checked in at the customer service desk they seemed confused and disoriented but I dismissed it as them being busy. I stood patiently waiting at the desk for a few moments when a man who I assume is the manager marched up and demanded to know if I was the one waiting for an interview. Without introducing himself, he impatiently asked where my application paper was and snatched it out of my hand. He next proceeded to interrogate me about what hours I was willing to work right in front of other staff members and numerous customers until his aggressive attitude and lack of professionalism simply turned me off to the point where I said "Thank you" and left. It seems to me that if you are so desperate for decent workers you would not bully them out the door before they even get a chance for a real interview. I found this entire experience to be not only frustrating but also demeaning. I can only imagine what would have happened if I had decided to stay. read more

I have shopped Market Basket for many years in Claremont as I find it is the grocery store with reasonable prices and a great selection. Are the lines long? Yes! But that is because of their low prices and tremendous selection, although I do wish they would bring back their 4 percent discount as in today's world with soaring prices every little bit helps. As a senior on a fixed income it is a good place to shop. Most of the cashier's and all of the baggers are friendly and helpful. I know it is a stressful job to oversee but the manager could be a little more cordial and smile once in awhile. read more

Great quality meat at good prices. i find it has a good selection of everything. If is says 2/something. If you buy one you still get the lower price. Most stores don't do that. The people a curtious at all times. never have I ever had one that doesn't say hello, have you found everything. even when they are busy like on the first or the 3rd. Last review posted on 12/16/07, 5 star. Have they all gone down hill from there? I went shopping on Monday 7/11/2011 noon. Spent $168.99. Could have been more but seems not enough loads come in in a week to replenish the shelves. Items filled on shelf that don't belong in the space fill the shelf to make it look full? The meat manager on the floor talking to deli/seafood man let out a big f word. That kind of language does not belong on the sales floor. I have known a lot of store managers in my life and I can tell you that Arthur Parliman is no where neer the top. I dont think he could make it half way. I know you cater to the Select beef customer and you have choice beef. I buy Angus and go to Price chopper or the Coop to get good meat. Last thing please put a sign on products you have hidden away in departments to let the customer 1 know they are there and what they retail for. read more

A good selection and great prices (better than the competition). I travel over 30 miles to go to this store. I have other grocery chains to choose from, they just can't compete on price and service. I only wish they would expand further to the north. It would do well in several locations along the Connecticut River valley. Woodsville and Littleton come to mind. Even the cashier and a dedicated bagger are professional with uniforms and good attitude. read more

The prices at Market Basket are good (the only reason that there are TWO starts and not ONE star) - but that's the ONLY thing that brings me back. On Sunday, Apr 7, I after getting little to no help asking about where things were located in the store that were in the weekly flyer, I went to check out. I unloaded my cart and then proceeded to wait while the cashier turned her back on me and had a lengthy conversation with the bagger for over a minute. That may not SEEM like a long time, but I think it was more about being completely ignored - and meanwhile, the store manager was looking on and just walked away. (I've heard so many bad comments from workers there about this manager and he NEVER EVER has a smile on his face or seems helpful). I've had this (bad check-out) happen on so many occasions, that unfortunately, these are the experiences I remember and not the good one where I actually have cashiers and baggers that greet me nicely and I'm able to quickly check out. I've also been to the deli too many times to remember on a Sunday and the information from the prior week's sale flyer is posted on the deli window. Again, the ONLY thing that will bring me back are the prices - but with Hannafords and WalMart on the same street - this may not be enough in the very near future. read more

The root beer I bought didn't scan into the system and the 17 year old "manager" asked someone to go look for it because he "couldn't leave the front" and when it took the guy 8+ minutes to come back and we had held up the line a ton he said to his (also 17 year old) coworker, "they can wait until the don't want to pay for it anymore. Average, not as good as other Market Basket Supermarkets. It is ok, but when you have a problem, they are less than friendly. I had a credit card which they would not accept because I had no ID. Well, I was out for the day, and just did not take anything with me. They refused, and I understand, but it was the way they refused. It was rude and embarrassing. So I do not go there. There are 3 other supermarkets within a block, all good. And I must say, Market Basket, for all the talk, uses mostly food from China, which I will not buy. This one, perhaps because it is out of the way, uses more than average. I love MB when in Boston, but Claremont MB, well, avoid it if you can. read more

First of all, I think that this store is top notch. my only problem is the italian sandwich in the deli dept,. I do not think that there is enough meat in them. last week I bought one from market basket in Warren N.H. and it was much better than the Claremont store. Poor selection that can't compete with Hannafords, and the pricing isn't necessarily better when the only thing they carry in bulk is candy. On some individual store brand products, yes, MB will be cheaper. Anything claimed to be made in here is questionable at best, terrifying at worst (pepperoni calzone shouldn't smell like fish). Their idea of an organic aisle is a joke - almost nothing organic, but they have Cliff Bars for DAYS. Want organic fruit? They'll just make sure it's wrapped in plastic and styrofoam. There are nice employees around, but you wouldn't know because the cashiers never greet unless they personally know you. They often won't even respond to being greeted by you. They will never ask you if you want a bag, but if you do, they'll be sure to put only two light items in each one. There are ALWAYS long lines, any time of any day, any week of the year. If you see someone checking out at the courtesy counter because it's busy, they'll deny it ever happened, say it's not allowed, and even tell you that there are express lanes open even though you can't see that from the opposite end of the store and they're closed for maintenance; but this seems to depend on their mood, and certainly whether or not they know you (favoritism). At least some places pretend to have good service. read more
