The staff is terrible. I never use the checkouts, only self checkout. But today I wanted paper bags which are only obtainable at checker operated checkout. Today I got chastised by the checker who grabbed one of my groceries even though she should've seen the obvious gap between orders and only 2 of us in line with empty carts. "Well, you didn't put the bar across!" She says even though the mistake is due to her not paying attention, and obv hating her job. The bagger an old lady, made a big deal out of my asking for paper bags and STILL used plastic around the paper. Then she refused to only give me two bags, putting the paper towels and dish washer pods into another plastic bag. She would not just merge those items into the paper bags even though I told her it was ok. Apparently she thought those items would contaminate my food! Ugh! I had to put them in myself. I will drive across town to Norwell before I go here again! read more

I am so disappointed and creeped out by cashiers Andrew and Connor. They honestly scared me and didn't even say hi. They were talking about demons? Then they went from the titanic to oreos in a conversation all while talking extremely loudly. I am horrified by there actions, attitude, service and even looks. Please fire them or give them a sturn talk. read more

If you're brand loyal, you will definitely find this beautifully remodeled Shaw's to be a premium price point grocery. Staples often run 20-30% higher than other nearby stores. However, the Shaw's virtual coupon program is extensive and really knocks pricing down to reasonable levels. The produce is well stocked, and kept properly watched (no funky greens in plain sight). Unlike other yelpers, I didn't see any expired goods on the shelves - something I'm very tuned in to thanks to regularly poor experiences at Stop & Shop in Norwell. And it's nice to see a grocery that has more than two checkout lanes open. Plus, there's an in-house Starbucks if you're in to that sort of thing. read more

Three stars for the cleanliness of the store. But everytime I go there with my mother in law who is elderly and can't drive they are always out of crucial things she needs. We go there only because it's the closest and was convenient time wise. And everytime we go there the front end staff always look so miserable and aren't friendly at all. I get working with the public can be no picnic at times I work with the public in retail as well so I know. But I know that the customer still should be treated with kindness and respect. I don't even get a hello or anything when I try to make a friendly conversation with the staff waiting on me. read more

What a joke! 2 week's in a row at the deli with only one person in front of me. 3 employees behind the counter. One servicing the person in front of me. The other's just cleaning and labeling items. ..they see me there and ignore me. So much for the customer comes first. I walked away after 5 minutes of being ignored! I got a few small overpriced items, snacks, drinks, nothing of substance. The checkout girl. Roseline couldn't have been more bored and didn't even acknowledge me while scanning my overpriced items! The kid bagging was in la la land. Gave me 3 bags with 1 item in them. I guess Shaw's has too many bags and need to get rid of them. Neither of them were pleasant and seemed annoyed I went to their line. Typical young entitled attitudes! ...I'm done with this store and it's overpriced shitty employees! read more

My family has been shopping at Shaw's for well over a decade, but its recent remodeling has made our experience all the more pleasurable. The floors are clean (and much classier), the produce is fresh, and the aisles are well-organized and well-stocked. I will always buy my fresh fruit from Shaw's; they have excellent variety that is always fresher and crisper than the cut fruit from Stop and Shop or Big Y. The addition of the Starbucks is somewhat awkward, considering the island-like layout at the front of the store, but that remains entirely forgivable. What I am most impressed with would have to be the new brands popping up every week. What you might find in specialty health food stores, retailers such as HomeGoods, or even online, you can now find at Shaw's (such as Banza protein pasta). I'm glad Shaw's is rebranding itself, and am looking forward to what they're carrying next! read more

Roni J sums it up well. I can't believe how expensive Shaw's is - this place is a total rip-off. I've come home with rotten onions (something I've never even needed to worry about for 33 years), not once, but twice from this Shaw's. Prices are more expensive than Whole Foods, which is where my family has since taken our business. There is nothing about Shaw's that justifies it's premium pricing. read more

I stepped into a whole new Shaw's this afternoon after my husband informed me of their total makeover. Wow, what a difference. A whole new store, new spanking clean shopping carts, an actual butcher case with meats cut to order in stead of oozing blood in a stinking styrofoam tray. The store feels much bigger, despite the same footprint. I had already done today's shopping at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, so I purchased only a few items. But will probably be back, since the store is 1.5 miles from home. I didn't have time to check out the whole floor plan and compare prices I'm familiar with, but will give them a thorough look-see next time. Others have posted about expired foods. Check the dates before you buy, and call them out when it's past its sell-by date. Update after a couple more visits: prices on non-sale items are ridiculously high compared to Stop& Shop and other stores. Expiration dates on perishables are short. Wait time at deli counter slow. Baggers couldn't care less about how to pack your order. Despite makeover, not much else has changed in attitude or pricing policy. read more

The previous reviewer summed it up well! The produce section is like something from a third-world nation. Fruits flies hover around rotten bananas, rotten tomatoes out-number anything edible, and don't expect to find anything more exotic than a granny-smith apple. I have been shopping here for the past few months since moving to Hanover. I have gone here on 3 different occasions in the past week. All 3 times there have been no rotisserie chickens out, produce was not stocked at all. The tomatoes had some weird waxy, oily, substance on them. I think they have stopped selling iceberg lettuce, I walked around produce for 10 mins looking. Tried to get milk, but all the expiration dates were within a couple days. The man who is usually on the registers in the morning could care less about what you buy, he just tosses things down to the bagger, he has even rolled his eyes at items I buy. Stay away from register #9. I will no longer be shopping at shaws , more specifically the Hanover location. It is horrible. Stop & shop in Norwell is so much nicer, ALWAYS stocked, and if you have a savings card, the prices beat Shaws. read more

If I found the time, I was planning to speak to the store manager when I am there, but life is busy and I never find the time! I shop at this store because of its location, but I also think the prices are good and I do save money using the just for you app... However, there are several times I go in with my list and plan on buying items that are on sale that I saved in the app, and the shelves are empty empty empty empty!!!! It is so completely frustrating... Everything that is on sale never seems to be there when I get there, or this particular store does not carry all the things they advertise being on sale!!!! Just the other day I went to buy the rotisserie chicken that I put in my just for you app and they didn't have the particular brand that they advertised $1.50 off, and I was told I couldn't use it on the brand that they do carry at that store!! I went to the deli to buy the ham and the turkey that were both on sale for $4.99 a pound, they were out of both and I had to buy the ham for $7.99 per pound and the turkey for $9.99 per pound!!! My last few trips I have left that store feeling like I've been tricked!!! There are several items that are in my app when I get there that are just out... If the store knows these items are on sale why are they not stocking up on them? And the last three times that quaker instant oatmeal has been on sale, they have every flavor except the most popular, brown sugar and maple, which they are always always always always always out of!! I may start driving further for better service and paying more regardless, just for peace of mind!! read more

Shaws in Hanover is a great store. The management and staff are helpful with great personalities. I've never had issues with the produce like others have said in the 16 years I've been going. All departments seem great right now. This is the main store that I shop for my family. Also trader joes. read more

My first time shopping here because I was passing by. Bought orange juice among other things, yesterday. Tried to drink it this morning and it tasted bad ... lo and behold the last sale date was three weeks ago! I also bought kale and when I started washing it I noticed a bad, rotten type smell. I called the store and talked to two people, they said I could come in and get a refund. But since it's not convenient, I won't bother going there again. read more

I switched from Stop & Shop and color me unimpressed. I have not had issues with the produce but I've had issues with the employees. Waited approx. 2 minutes for someone to help me. When he showed up he confirmed he was the one to help in the prepared food section then walked away to help someone in seafood who had just walked up. I walked away without what I wanted. I also must've gotten the new woman at the deli. I asked for ham sliced very thin. I got a mound of shredded mess. The canned veggies were so expensive I just walked away. I have had so many encounters with rude cashiers but today was the end of it for me. My cashier was very nice, she rang everything in but the register kept giving her trouble. It was blinking oddly during checkout, would not take my debit card-either to insert or swipe. It made the checkout process long, and in the end, it froze so that I could not pay. (Meanwhile I had bagged all of my groceries and put them in the cart). The cashier, let's call her #1, turned and asked for help. A woman, I'll call her #2, told #1 to leave the register and bag. #2 said that she would take care of me. Well, instead, she went on a register and had #1 bag for her while she waited on other customers. Dumbfounded, I stood there, alone, wondering who was going to help me. I then said, you know what, I'm done waiting. I left the store. And then changed my mind and went back in to find the manager. He was sort of noncommittal: "that shouldn't have happened." And then he took me to the front end supervisor and told her to take care of me. Then #2 pipes up: "I was going to help her." Why is their time more important than mine? I had waited and waited and she obviously didn't care...as she was choosing to make me wait further. Horrible customer service. I worked in customer service for many years and would never ever treat anyone like that. It wasn't my fault that their register broke down, and yet they were willing to make me wait to pay????!!!!!! Like the rest of my friends, I will go there to purchase eggs, bread, and milk only, and will spend my thousand dollars a month somewhere else. read more
