Oh my gosh I've heard of this place but have never stepped foot inside until today. This place is heaven. The fact that they have their coffee roasting right where we can see it is my coffee lover's dream! It is so cool to witness and the smell is so unique, you don't really know what the smell is outside until you walk inside. There is a lot of greenery inside and it is a cozy place where you can hide away. So many things to choose from. They also have cannolis!! I will for sure try one next time since I'm just grabbing a coffee before work. I grabbed the Butter Pecan Latte and it is great! I taste everything described. I totally went here because they have gingerbread lattes. Since the big chains dropped the seasonal treat, I've been going to every small coffee shop that still serves it. Of them, Shaw's is my favorite. The shop itself is larger than I expected and with lots of character. Prices are about what you would expect for a local coffee shop. There was only one employee there when I got there on a dreary Friday morning, but she seemed nice. Will definitely return! read more

Located inside an old bank we stopped here on our way to the airport for a quick pick me up. Well this spot definitely delivered! The matcha was delicious, the brisket, sausage and gravy and bacon and egg kolache are so dang good. My boyfriend got an americano and he said it was amazing. The barista was so nice and very friendly, she had everything out to us very quickly. This seemed to be a stop and go for quite a few people, we saw a ton of people in and out while we were eating. I'm giving this place 5 stars despite the long line (and wait) to order our drinks. There was only one barista at 9:30 am but she was so efficient and friendly that it makes up for the wait. She would take 3 or 4 orders at a time, then pause the ordering line and fill the orders and never once looked annoyed or overwhelmed. I had the pleasure of being at the front of the line when she filled orders and I could have watched her all day long, filling the espresso cup, making double espressos, foaming the milk, remembering each order specifically without making a mistake. And I'm not even a coffee drinker! I had tea which comes from Republic of Tea and was delicious. I also had a bagel (comes from Companion Bakery) which she toasted and served with cream cheese. And the ambience...this is an old bank and has kept some of the original details. You can literally sit inside the safe deposit vault and drink your coffee in there. But there are many other sunnier spots to sit. It's just a cool place with good vibes. read more

I walked here after lunch at Anthonios and it was a perfect distance to get moving after a big (and delicious) lunch. Their fall menu outside caught my eye, the brown sugar latte especially. I walked inside to place my mom and I's order. They were busy and had one barista, so a woman from the back came out to take my order. I ordered the brown sugar latte (light on the syrup) and the pumpin pie latte for my mom. They came out promptly and we enjoyed them in their sitting area outside. Loved the vibes of this café. The plants give such a cozy feeling. They have fun lattes and sells their own coffee grounds they make in house. It is a bit noisy because of the grinder being on, but there is plenty of seating and great service. I will be returning. read more

If you are on, The Hill and need a cup of Joe to keep you going or to start your day, Shaw's is the place to go. They are by far the absolute best coffee shop on The Hill. I myself have been known to stop by for an iced coffee, just simply because I am in the neighborhood. They've been serving, The Hill and STL community for over 20 years. What I like best is that they do their own roasting and do it multiple times during the week so the coffee is always super fresh. The Baristas also help with the weekly roasting, so they have a true love and knowledge of the coffee bean. A good barista is like a good bartender, so be sure to tip accordingly. Came here while I visited the Hill neighborhood, which I highly recommend anyone visiting St. Louis to do. Anyhow, I honestly wanted to give this place 5 stars because I am picky about mochas and they certainly know how to make a great mocha latte. The only issue I had was that the young lady who was there was not very pleasant but a bit curt. Next time I'm in the area I hope to come back, and hopefully will have friendlier service. read more

Spent a day in Saint Louis and found this gem of a place! We are extreme coffee lovers and always love finding local coffee shops. This one did not disappoint! The coffee tasted amazing, had lots of syrup flavors to choose from, their specialty coffees of the month were also delicious. I wish we had more time to spend there, because I would have loved to try a ton more. I highly recommend visiting. Inside was nice too with quite the view all around. Even COVID precautions were being taken. If you're just visiting like us, or a local, please make a trip to visit this outstanding place! Shaw's Coffee makes one hell of an Americano! Someday I'll try another type of drink. Someday... Shaw's makes me happy, especially on a weekday afternoon. The first time I went I remember that I didn't think it was too aesthetically pleasing, but apparently my eyes weren't working correctly, because after seeing it again I realized how gorgeous it is inside! It has great hardwood floors, just the right amount of natural light, and these adorable tea light type lights hanging from the ceiling. The also have huge sacks of coffee sitting throughout the whole place (or maybe they're filled with stuffing just for the look of it... either way they fooled me!) The bank vault in the back is pretty awesome and has tables and chairs inside, but claustrophobia gets the best of me and I can never stay in there too long. Great history, though... definitely walk in and look around. Just make sure that vault door doesn't shut behind you! Coffee is a little pricey but it's worth it to be able to sit in such a beautiful space right on the Hill. Parking can kinda be a pain as most of the street spots are for 30 minutes or less, but you can usually find something within a block's walking distance. I wouldn't advise you stop by Shaw's if you're in a huge hurry... they only have 1-2 people working at a time and things move pretty slowly. Cool spot! read more

This was the first stop on our walking tour of The Hill neighborhood of Saint Louis. What a perfect little gem of a place. It was very cute and had a very small feel to it although it did have quite a bit of space. But there were strategically placed plants and things to make it seem more intimate. The coffee was so good. I am normally a coffee with cream drinker but on special occasions, I like to splurge on a latte or something. This latte was amazing. It was rich and creamy and the espresso was phenomenal. My coffee sleeve also had a personal message (you are stunning) which put a huge smile on my face. Stopped here today on a whim. The hardest part of getting to this place was finding a parking spot. I lucked out as I circled and someone was leaving. On;y had to walk a few car lengths. The place was interesting and inviting. It smelled like a coffee shop. It looked... well, unique. While checking out the menu and display case I noticed an open bank vault that you could sit in. There were also a lot f couches and comfortable chairs. There was enough greenery (plants) around so all the tables seemed private. I asked for a recommendation and was not given one BUT instead given a sample of the different brews. She patiently explained the coffees and brewing process. I took my Quiche and coffee and sat and read the paper. Very nice environment to do that. Wish my lunch hour was longer. I took a cannoli to go. It was just made when I first came in. I live within walking distance so I'm here all the time and grateful to have it so close. I usually order the Tuscsny quiche, which is crustless and chock full of roasted veggies. Totally healthy right, lol? They also have a wide selection of muffins, scones and other treats. Coffee is roasted on site. Coffee drink selections cover the basics. Consistent options and quality. Had a plain coffee and it was one of the better plain coffees I have had. Went during week and there was a very large working from the coffee shop contingent. Was very crowded when I first got there mid morning but cleared out fairly quickly around or slightly before lunch.
