I've tried to contact Shawley's for several months now and they will not respond. They keep sending me new bills with late fees but will not return my calls or emails. I also reported them to BBB and they didnt respond to them either. They gave me a 300 dollar bill for warranty work on a fireplace i never got to use and never used. The fireplace was inoperable for the entire time I have had it. I have sent numerous emails and left numerous voicemails and nobody will respond. At this point I don't know what to do. I have asked them numerous times to come pick up their tank and close my account but they refuse to respond. read more

After being a customer for four years, I've always paid my they would not work with me with partial payments. One a below freezing day shortly right after Christmas as I was pleading with them throughout the Christmas season for assistance due to being unemployed from the government bs. All I asked him to do was fill the tank as they normally do and I'll pay the bill in increments. Instead, they said there was nothing that they could do and I should contact some city department.. on top of being the most expensive people in town compared to Heller's who also has remote monitoring so they know exactly what your tank has in it Shawleys does not use it by default and does not work with families needs for a small I would expect have better customer read more

This company filled my tank and I had to pay to pay $152.72 for gas that I was not going to be using, as I have found the gas fireplace it supplied was a waste. I requested that they pick up the tank, as I was no longer using it. Today I called about getting a refund for the gas in the tank after they picked it up. I was informed that they were charging me $145 for picking that tank up. This is outrageous. They now have a full 200 gallon tank that they can resell to some other person. If I could give this company a zero star I would. I moved to the area approximately a year ago. Called Shawley's to install a new gas fireplace. Used it approximately 12 times and it no longer lights properly. I called to have a technician take a look at it and they informed me that I would have to pay for the service call. And it would take approximately 8 weeks for someone to get here. By the way I paid over $2,000 for the fireplace,. A few days before they were supposed to arrive, I called just to confirm and they told me.... Oh yes we were getting ready to call everyone we no longer have any technicians working right now. They are out on medical leave and we don't know when they'll be back. How's that for customer service and quality products!!! read more

Jim even called me back to give me additional information which was going far and above to give service. I wish i could use Shawley's they are wonderful!!! Had Shawleys come out to run a gas line to my new gas fireplace. Our installer Shawn was awesome. He didn't rush through everything. He took time to explain the fireplace and how it works. Even help us install the inserts. To top it off their price was unbeatable. read more

This place is a joke, completely unprofessional. Was lied to not once but twice about a truck coming to fill our tanks, there goal is to get you to pay the extra money for a special delivery. Jim is a complete dickhead he even went as far as questioning why I was using so much fuel. We are not even Shawley's customers but I had to come publicly compliment their outstanding customer service! We just moved to the area and had no experience using propane. Of course our propane ran out, right after our home sale! I now know that generally, you will be waiting 2-4 business days to have your propane delivered, but Shawley's was willing to rearrange their driver's schedule to help us out, same day! Outstanding customer service. Just bought the house 7 months ago, they emailed me paperwork to fill out. Fortunately they checked back with me, they'd never gotten my paperwork. When I moved to Hagerstown from Connecticut I wanted to convert a wood burning fireplace to natural gas. I received a strong recommendation to contact Kay Dunn at Shawleys. I had three gas fireplaces in previous homes, both propane and natural gas, so I had a pretty good idea what I was looking for. Ms. Dunn quickly directed me to the type and model of the fireplace that I wanted. The installation process was easy and efficient. However, installation of natural gas lines by Columbia Gas was a bit more involved. I was really hoping that we could enjoy the new fireplace for the Christmas holidays. The fireplace was installed in our family room in plenty of time. However, the gas line install continued to take time. Finally, on December 23rd, the gas lines were in and ready for final hookup. One more thing. Shawley's installers were given a half day off on the 23rd. Nevertheless, Shaweys senior tech made the final hookup on the afternoon of December 23rd. Ms Kay Dunn couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating to ensure our fireplace was installed in time. The fireplace itself presents a beautiful fire. Like most new model fireplaces it is thermostatically controlled and has all the features for a comfortable fire. As one can imagine I give Shawleys my strongest possible recommendation. Calls for delivery are always met on time and I have used Shawley's for everything from propane delivery to inspection services (HVAC, buried propane tank and fireplace). I also love their prepaid program which has helped to deal with harsh winter prices. Highly recommend. read more

Moved in to a new home in July and had a tank installed for our fireplace. Now that the weather is getting colder, we started using the fireplace - I smelled gas yesterday when outside with the dogs, had hubby turn it off and called Shawleys this morning. Within 1 1/2 hours Mike showed up and found the leak (at the cupler that the house electricians probably messed with). Mike fixed the leak, and topped off the tank N/C. He gave us some tips (since we are new to the propane fireplace). I highly recommend them. read more

i am not one to write negative reviews but i am so frustrated with this situation i would not want anyone else to go through this: shawley's installed a new heat pump unit for me in the fall. when the weather became warm and we turned the air conditioner on the unit started to leak a lot of water and it soaked thru attic to the dry wall into the ceiling and dripped onto the hardwood flooring on my steps. I contacted shawleys that day, it was a Friday, and I was told they couldn't fit me into the schedule until the following thurs. my 70 year old father then climbed up into the attic to see if he could tell what was leaking. my dad talked to jim dunn at shawleys, we emailed pictures of the damage to the ceiling and we were told he would call back after he spoke with a technician, because he was not familiar with the units. the clock struck 4 and we never heard back from him. so we had to turn our unit off for the weekend, so it would not continue to leak, where it ended up reaching 88 degrees in our house. i had to call them on monday morning 2 technicians came to my house and fixed the problem, which was a broken pan (that they had to order) and fittings were not securely glued from my understanding. i was then told to get an estimate from a contractor for the water damaged areas ( there were 2 separate areas that were signifigantly damaged) on my ceiling. i got the estimate and handed it over to shawleys, kay dunn called me and said it was too high and she wanted to send a contractor that they use out to get a comparison estimate. i said that was fine, i just want it fixed correctly and not just patched. it has been over a week since i was told their contractor would call still no phone call has come. i have called multiple times to speak with kay dunn (who is the president of the company), who i am always told is in a meeting or has stepped out of the office. kay had told me on one occasion she had left me a voicemail message on my phone, one that i conveinently never received. i am so frustrated with the situation and i can't believe the unprofessionalism from a company who clearly is at fault. i would never recommend this company for any heating or airconditioning needs. read more

Sadly disappointed in their lack of timely communication. I contacted Shawley's on 12 March 2015 looking into a gas line installation, gas fireplace hook-up, and potential installation of a direct vent gas stove in my basement. A site survey was done and estimate provided for the gas line installation and fireplace hook-up only as I wasn't sure about the affordability of the gas stove. After researching the stove companies Shawley's dealt with, I made three selections and asked for estimates, reiterated what the project would entail and proposed a tentative late August/early September 2015 date for the work to be done. I heard nothing from them until 12 July 2015 when I requested an update; it was quite obvious I had been forgotten. Feeling hopeful things were on track, there was a second three week break in communication during July and August 2015 after a second site survey had been done, a decision made about the stove and a "tentative" schedule proposed. The third and final three week break in communication was in September 2015 after I thought everything had been decided upon, items ordered and financing being worked on; not a single word. I was left feeling that my project was not important enough to stay focused on. Based on their inattentiveness and new concern about timely delivery of gas and maintenance after everything was done led me to make the difficult decision to search for services elsewhere. I want someone who is reliable and someone who wants my business and willing to provide timely servicing of their products. I had been given every indication that this might not be the case. The saddest part of this is that in every single one of these breaks in communication, the pending action item belonged to Shawley's. They lost a great customer! read more
