My Problem: Last Thursday, I spent $100 to find out my 10 year old Trane compressor fried. The starting repair costs would be almost $4,000, however my usual HVAC company said the whole thing needed replacing. AWESOME! Just what I wanted to hear when we're expecting a foot of snow. Even better, he said Trane didn't make a model anymore that would fit in the existing closet. Solution: My Dad just had his entire system and duct work replaced about a month ago by Larry & Sons and they did a great job. So he told me to call them and see what a new system would run. Moe, the Sales Rep, came out that afternoon. He said he could fit a new system with the base models and the high efficiency ones. After going through the house, seeing what I had, didn't like currently, and what I wanted to have, we decided on one of the high-efficiency models, and got a final price worked out. Moe said they'd be here at 8:30AM on Wednesday. Problem Solved: Wednesday, right after we got a foot of snow, they showed up at 8:30AM (exactly) and went to work. They even brought in several heaters for me. These guys went above and beyond in every aspect of their work. They managed to do what Trane said wasn't possible. That evening, the foreman came up and told me they would have to come back and finish up the next day. They made sure we had plenty of heaters and cleaned up after themselves. Considering they'd been installing an all new system, in the freezing cold, and trudging through a ton of snow, you couldn't tell they'd been there. The next day they showed up again at 8:30AM promptly to finish. When they finished, they walked me through the house to make sure I was completely satisfied with each segment. They'd taken away all my old stuff. They'd dug my old cement pad out, where the outside fan sat, and built a new beautiful pad with about a foot of edging all the way around, surrounded by thick wood border. Next he showed me where they had installed some of the pipes and wires along the side of the house. It was well placed, and they even put a casing over the whole length that matched my vinyl siding. Then he showed me the closet where the main unit is. I couldn't believe my eyes. They'd removed all of Trane's equipment and connecting ducting. It looked like a laser had just gutted it and everything was new. He showed me how to change the filter, and where there was a light that kills anything that makes it through the filter. He showed me the return vents they enlarged upstairs to move the air better. Then he programmed the new LED thermostat, while showing me what he was doing so I could change it if I ever wanted. He turned the new system on and it was blowing nice and strong air; you could barely feel it before. The outside unit was just humming quietly. The past four days have been an amazing difference. The fan automatically adjusts how much air to push. It's even learning how long it takes for the temperature to change so when it comes to a time it's supposed to change (like being warmer in the morning), it actually starts the change gradually so it uses less power, and less noise. I'm sorry for such a long review, but I've never felt that just "It's great!" gives me any useful information. Larry & Sons did a fabulous job for my family. They put down floor protectors and wore booties over their boots, so when they were done, my house looks the same... plus a lot of well installed equipment. read more

I was disappointed with the lack of transparency regarding pricing. When I initially called, I was told the consultation fee would be $50, and that if we had multiple issues within the same category, we would only be charged one consultation fee rather than separate fees for each concern. We specifically called because our electric water heater had clearly caught fire. We even had photos showing the damage, so we weren't looking for someone to diagnose that it had burned up--we needed help with replacement and recommendations for the underlying tank issues. Instead, we were charged for a plumbing diagnostic, a water heater diagnostic, and a water sampling test, bringing the total to $150--three times what we were originally told. At no point before the technician performed these services were these additional charges explained or approved. I understand that diagnostic testing and water analysis have value, but customers deserve to know the costs upfront so they can make an informed decision. Clear communication and transparency about pricing would have made this a much better experience. read more

We had been without heat for over 18 hours on one of the coldest weekends of this year so far. We contacted Larry & Son's for a service call on our HVAC system and they stated someone would be out but received a phone call stating cc could not make it (6 hours later). The technicians who came to the house were polite and tried to present me with various options but failed to tell me that they would be charging me for the time that they would be spending on site. When I asked them to wait for me to check some things, they readily agreed, but didn't say that it would cost me $90 per half hour of their time. As a result, after I turned down their (pricey) offers, they said I owed them $130 ($40 for coming out and $90) for their time. It might be reasonable to charge that but I would have appreciated being told before asking them to wait. read more

Absolute scam. Had some condensation issues so I thought I'd give them a try. Never addressed the issue I called them for but proceeded to tell me I needed a whole new HVAC system and dehumidifier. Was then told the system installed in my home wasn't up to par because "homes adjust over time and need bigger units as they get older". When I questioned the absolute stupidity of that statement the technician said okay and nothing more. Prior to the technicians arrival my ac was blasting cool air an and set at a lovely 68 degrees with no issues. After the technician leaving, my home won't go below 72 degrees. Had to have another technician from a different company come out only to find out all my refrigerant had mysteriously vanished after this company looked at my unit. I love, writing, honest and positive reviews of good work and good products, but sadly, this is not one of those reviews. The Larry & Sons technician wanted to charge us over $1400 more than other companies to replace our hot water heater. I've seen the Larry & Sons trucks around so I went online and it seemed they had good reviews. So we called them to send someone to unclog our toilet pipes. He was there about an hour using an auger and charged us $700. That sure seemed like a lot, but honestly, we didn't know better. We even signed up for the $20 a month maintenance plan which would send someone over twice not looking a year to examine our AC and heating unit as well as any kind of wiring issues. It sounded like a good idea then; not now. Within a few days of Allen coming to unstop our pipes we decided to replace our hot water heater, which had not been working for a while. They sent us a different technician. When we asked Dylan to give us an estimate. his price was almost $2900 to replace a 50 gallon water heater. He said that included the discount that we were getting for having joined the maintenance plan. When I asked him for a breakdown of labor and parts, he would not give it to me as he said they only do a package deal and that it was for my own Kam. If the work went longer than two hours with two men, I would not have to pay more. I asked him what happens if it only takes one hour and he really didn't say much. I could not get him to tell me how much they charge an hour. I remembered a neighbor had her hot water heater replaced the January before last, so I called her. She said she used a different company and was charged $1400! I called that company and asked how much they charge to replace a water heater and they told me it was between $1400 and $1500. When I asked them how much they charge for labor, the owner of the company had no problem telling me how much they charge for 15 minute increments, and theat if it goes over an hour, the rate drops down. He was upfront and answered all my questions honestly. Within a few days, we had our hot water heater replaced in about an hour and with a new tray included; and, it cost $1445, not almost $2900! I have called Larry & Sons several times to tell them what happened and the young receptionist says she'll give the message to the manager and someone will call me back that same day. No one has called me and it has been several days. I've sent several emails and have not received a response. I am very concerned about this company. There seems to be no standard price. I suspect that the plumbing technicians may work on commission and are free to charge what they want. A $1400 difference between this company and several others is huge. read more

Wow, this is the first time we have used Larry & Sons and we are very pleased! Their representative, Allen, did such a great job unclogging our bathroom pipes and replacing old damaged parts. He was thorough, nice, respectful, and did not overcharge us. He did great work! Allen came shortly after we contacted them and we got a text message telling us who was coming and that he's on his way. I like that too. We were so happy with the work done by Larry & sons that we signed up for their maintenance program which covers so much more than just plumbing, AC and HVAC. Good job guys! read more

Needed toilet replaced. Called them because we had a service contract. Apparently, they canceled that after the first month because they couldn't reach us. I have no record of calls. So we asked for an estimate, ballpark price before they come. They said they couldn't. They tried to send someone here before we even got the toilet. We said no, no point. Then, when the guy gets here, he gives us a price of $549.00 to replace the toilet. Realize that doesn't include anything but labor. We have everything else. Plus the consultation fee. That's when we argued about my coverage. They took the one month fee and ran. I feel like they think because we're old, they can take advantage of us. I had to pay the $49.00, and they tried to force me to sign a paper saying I am authorizing service. I refused. My God, how evil to take advantage of the elderly living on fixed income. read more

INCOMPETENT AND A RIP OFF I had a technician come out six times to fix a leaking shower. The first time he tried to save us money and recommended us to get a new cartridge for shower so happy to spend $30 vs. $1,450. After I tried and the technician tried to install the new cartridge he said that he would have to install a new shower system. He installed the new shower and it worked for a day or two and then there was a crack in the pipe going into the shower head. So another $90 to fix that. The shower started leaking again so had to get the technician out he told me that it was the water pressure and had to spend another $750 to fix that but still wasn't fixed. Told me to buy another cartridge for the new shower. I bought that and had him install it. It was still leaking. After some time I had another plumber out to fix our sink. He took a look at it and told me that the technician installed the cartridge upside down and was fine. Spent over $2,000 for incompetence. This was a waste of money. read more

I hope everyone reads this BEFORE deciding to do business with them. They are scam artists. First, I had them service my AC in June. My AC continued to not work properly the whole summer. I didn't call them back because I was afraid I'd get charged ANOTHER service fee. I wanted my furnace serviced at the same time, but they refused to do that. Had to let my furnace sit unused for 4-5 months. When summer was over, I called to set up my appointment. They couldn't get me in til November. But they set up an appointment to actually fix my AC. The tech came and replaced one of the main parts. The first tech charged me to clean coils, that didn't fix the problem. When the tech finished, he miraculously offered to service my furnace. I agreed because November is too late, I'd already have it running. When finished, he came up and gave an elaborate speech about how my oxygen vs carbon monoxide levels weren't right. And told me I'd need a new furnace. Red tagged it so it couldn't be used. Next day, I got a 2nd opinion. I contacted the company from which I've been purchasing fuel oil the last couple years. I heard they serviced furnaces but didn't see it on their website and never would've guessed they do AC as well. Otherwise, they'd have been the first I called. That tech told me I did NOT need a new furnace. He explained how fuel oil gives off an exhaust like diesel. That I'd smell the problem. It's not like natural gas, a silent killer. I feel like Larry & Sons THOUGHT they'd take advantage of me. First, getting me to get their service agreement, then manipulate me with the 15% off equipment, they also ASSUMED I never had my furnace serviced, I had no carbon monoxide detectors and I had no idea how old my furnace was. I believe they made my furnace set for months before servicing, so when the dust burned off and as the chimney expanded and gave off a little more exhaust than normal, they could use a scare tactic to convince me to purchase something I did NOT need. The 2nd opinion company services as soon as I stop using it for the season so it's ready for the next. Only 5 days later, my daughter had them service her 10 year old furnace. They told her she'd need to replace it in the near future. If you don't see scam artists after reading this, then you must have money to throw away. Also, I was told their techs aren't paid well, so they push selling equipment because they get a commission. I'll be reporting these scam artists to the BBB and AG. Maybe then they'll start running an HONEST business. Because they sure as HELL aren't right now. I'll never use them again and will be canceling my service agreement. And of course, I waited ALL morning for the service appointment but when they plan to make a sale, they're their BEFORE they're supposed to be. ​ read more

Did not find source of problem after 2 visits & a camera in drain. Only concentrated on selling service contract. Left cap off septic cleanout in freezing condition & also broke concrete septic cover. Tried to charge additional $ to come out exactly one week later for problem that was not fixed exactly 1 week before. Terrible customer service from office staff. Definitely would not recommend. They also told us on 1st visit that they saw water coming in to septic tank but on 2nd visit that they had not. Why did they pack up and leave on 1st visit if the problem had not been found?? Failed to fix our issue even after charging for it. Customer service is terrible! Had Larry and Sons come out to address an issue with our HVAC leaking. They sent a technician out the same day and we were told the issue was fixed. After being charged over $600 we found the next day it was still leaking. After calling we were told we can not speak to managers and all we could do is leave a message and they will call back. We waited 3 days and no one had returned our calls. After calling back we were once again told we can not speak to any managers and all we can do is leave a message. The receptionists we talked to were very rude to both myself and my husband, including hanging up on us. This company ignored us for 3 days. Only after threatening a lawsuit we were able to speak to a manager that finally resolved our issue. Another technician was sent out and he was able to actually fix the issue that the first technician was supposed to have fixed. Will not use this company again for anything!! read more

I called and told them I needed my AC unit recharged. They came out and determined that it indeed did need 410a added. They than proceeded to tell me it would be $1600.00 dollars. I told him that was crazy and told him I charged AC units while serving in Iraq, I'm not stupid to the situation. He said he would give me a discount, but ended up charging me $1386.00. If it wasn't for it being so hot in my house with a baby. I would of bought the $149.00 28oz can of pro charge/(they charged me $1075.00 for it. smh) and did it myself. Worst possible experience with a plumbing company. Requested service to unclog a bathroom tub and sink drain on Monday. Plumber was supposed to come on Tuesday. No call and no plumber by 2:30pm. I called to be told he could come on Friday. Waited until after 2pm on Friday for tech to show up. He walked into the house, touched NOTHING (I turned on the sink to show the slow draining), and told me it would be $500 to snake the drain. $500 to snake a drain is insanity. I've had plumbing replaced entirely for less than that. Different plumbing company fixed the issue for less than $100. SCAM ARTISTS. Please, save yourself some time and frustration... Had a sewer line replaced. Larry & Sons caused damage to the HOA lawn that could have been avoided by laying down plywood and they left several large boulders on the surface after backfilling. I realize that they do not finish grade but they could have burred the boulders. Cost me extra with the landscaper to haul them out and repair the HOA lawn. When I paid my bill I complained and the person taking the call said would pass my information on to the supervisor. Never received a call from Larry & Sons. They got my money so I guess they figure they did not need to respond to my complaint. Be careful about paying if you have an issue. read more

I scheduled an appointment due to a leaking shower. The technician came out and proceeded to spend the next hour fumbling around until he ultimately said he couldn't get the handle off because of a stripped screw and quoted me $1950 to replace the valve and said he would have to cut a hole in the wall. I stopped the service that day to get another opinion. In the meantime my sister in law who works in IT has fixed some plumbing issues at her house after watching YouTube videos proceeded to come over and completely fix it including the trip to Lowe's for $50 and 2.5 hours. The screw wasn't stripped at all and she had the handle off in five minutes. These people should be embarrassed that this is who they sent to represent their company. I talked to Amy the plumbing manager who apologized but there is no excuse for ripping people off like this. Definitely would not recommend. read more

This is the second time calling Larry and Sons. The first time we needed our well pump, a pressure tank and pitless adapter replaced. After agreeing to all the quoted work the job commenced. When they finished later that day, we were told that they did not replace the pitless after they told us it needed to be replaced the LAST time this well was serviced. Almost two months go by and water has been bubbling up around our well ever since. We were told it would cost over $300 just to dig the hole and tell us what was wrong and wanted to quote us for $3-7k more work after they didn't do the whole job the first time. Another company came out and did the job today for under $500. The employees at reception have no concern for your complaints and will give you canned responses until you hang up. Haven't spoken to the service manager by phone yet, but received a voicemail that condescendingly surmises that everything they've done so far is as expected. Scare tactics, predatory pricing, lazy efforts, arrogant attitudes and disregard for customer satisfaction are the bones of this company. read more

I can't say enough about Larry & Sons! I had a catastrophic breakdown with my boiler. My usual servicer told me I would have to wait 4-6 weeks for a part when we had arctic weather. I called Larry & Sons & Justin was out the next day. While this wasn't a quick job, Justin worked tirelessly to solve the problem & get my boiler up and running again. This was a challenge and he rose to the occasion. They whole team (thank you Chris in scheduling) was supportive & prioritized my situation. Told us the price was $269 total included. Why was a "diagnostic" fee charged to replace something we just wanted replaced? They ripped us off for $319 to replace a kitchen faucet. Never again. Don't waste your time or money!!! Paid them 2k. They went through 2 different drains and kept hitting the trap. I paid for a hydrojet and a snake. Instead of going directly to the problem, they made it worse by leaving a snake in the drain. Over 1 week of visits from different guys and they told me to pay for an excavator. They just cut the snake line and left it in my pipe. I called rotorooter and they fixed my issue in 1 morning. Don't waste your time with these guys. read more

I wish I had read the reviews on here before I contracted with them. I had a leak from my hose to my new ice maker that they installed. I was told it was chewed through by a rodent. That replacement cost me $245.00. Now the hot water has stopped working in my kitchen. First option is to see if he can find the blockage, that would be $361 or they can replace the faucet & repair for $841. I find this price outrageous. They are charging $648 for just the faucet and you can get a new one from Lowes for about $200! read more

Well he wrote a comment asking me to get in touch so I did. Waste of Time! He basically called me a liar, that they have no record of the amount I paid, why did I wait 4 years before posting a review... We hired Larry and sons because of no water pressure in a downstairs shower. They came out and told us our expansion tank bladder burst and the rubber traveled through the lines. So that needed to be replaced they also recommended a new water heater so we went ahead with that as well. 1 year later no pressure again they came out and said the expansion tank was bad again, they would not cover it since it was over a year old even thought they set the pressure. This time that did not work they said we needed a whole new faucet set install, all in all almost $2000. I decided to call a different plumber and they figured it in about 30 minutes and it cost me. $170. A rubber washer slipped out of place in the shower control. While they were here they were constantly pushing their service plan. We fell for it the first time, never again. Every time they came out to do one of the "included inspections" they ALWAYS found issues that required replacing parts. read more

Have used Larry and Sons for 5+ years for several projects/problems...They do several things well...first and best...THEY SHOW UP ! Too many companies promise and never carry through or send a tech that isn't familiar with the systems. Second...I have only once had a problem with something they installed/repaired, they were there the next day, no charge to correct problem. Most companies will NOT give you a quote or estimate without looking at the problem and no one I have dealt with for any repair or replace will give a quote by phone sight unseen...and I would be suspicious if they did. Their Techs have always been quick to let me hang out, ask "stupid" questions, watch installs, etc...and they are willing to help me find a way to make whatever match my budget. I never felt pressured to spend more than I could afford or would need. My suggestion to those who question prices for repairs...contact your home owners insurance before making major repairs and find out what THEY consider reasonable costs...you will be surprised...prices are up across they board. read more

Called to setup an appointment for new AC installation. Earliest appointment to speak to Moe was a week-and-a-half out. Called the representative to get some basic questions asked...talked to Stacy and Michelle. They said they would call me back with the answers. Instead of answers, they called back and said Mo could answer when he came out. Not surprisingly, Moe cancelled his appointment. Not only that, but they said he was taking other service calls, although they said he was out on an emergency during my first reschedule. So, i asked them again if they could answer a few basic questions. No response after calling them 4 times. Basically, 1 person has an answer for a question regarding AC sales and everyone else is clueless, including the managers. Definitely not a company you want to have install or repair your AC unit. That is, unless you want incompetent people servicing and installing your unit...."your just asking for trouble." read more

I wanted a bathtub faucet replaced in our condo in Frederick. I sent the company an email along with pictures and description of the issue. I requested a quote. They told me that cannot give me a quote ahead of time, but when their technician will go there (for a minimum charge of $119 just to "diagnose" the problem), he will call me with a quote. He called me with a quote of $1900 (!!!). Of course, I didn't agree to pay this ridiculous amount, but what made me even more upset with this company is that the technician said they have a book of set prices for each job, so why didn't they quote me a head of time??? (even if there could be a slight change up or down in the price). Had I known they charged $1900 for a faucet replacement, I would not have them come at all. I emailed the company about their dishonest practice, and of course did not get any response. read more

The quality of the work was fine, but at the end of the job I ended up paying a little over 400.00 per hour in labor. When I questioned the charge it was explained that they bill by the task not by the hour. That may work to the customers advantage in some instances but I think it's outrageous that in my case the task was easy and quick so that it equated to 400.00 / hour in labor costs. I know Drs and lawyers who don't charge that much. Insane price and will not be using this company ever again. read more
