Called last week for an appointment because our AC was underperforming. The person who answered the phone was helpful and friendly and got us the first available appointment. The technician, Chris, came this morning and quickly identified two different issues contributing to the system's poor performance - a bad capacitor and a tiny part that gone bad that had allowed a pound of refrigerant to leak. An hour later, some parts replaced and refrigerant added, and the system was running like it should. Thank you to both the woman who took the initial call (I forget your name - sorry!!) and Chris for everything. We'll certainly call McIntire for future HVAC needs. read more

Every summer since we bought out home, we have called different "reputable" HVAC companies to try and fix our Air Conditioning system. Each time they got the system cooling again and we were told that the system is dying and needs to be replaced. The A/C would run for a few days, then quit cooling again. This year, I decided to try to find a smaller company, in hopes that I could find someone who was willing to work with us to repair the system rather than try to simply sell a new system, and one who would consider installing a system that we might purchase independently. I responded to an ad on Craigslist for HVAC services and was lucky enough to have the opportunity to contract McIntire Heating & Air Conditioning to try and "breathe a little more life" into our failing A/C system. I received a very prompt reply (there's a star!). The gentleman I spoke with (Bill) was interested in our problem. He explained that to properly test the system he needed to come out on a day when the temperature was higher (70 degrees and up). No other company had mentioned THAT before (there's a star!) I explained that this was a rental property and I was unsure how to handle the financial aspect, he offered to do the work and invoice me (there's a star!) While he was at the property he called and explained a few things. The coils in my unit had NEVER been properly cleaned and there was too much freon in the system. Apparently, when previous companies had been there, they simply "recharged" the system by adding freon rather than properly clean and test the system. In addition, Bill said that we should add a relay switch which would require some wiring, because our blower seemed to be hard wired and clearly explained the options and costs (there another star!). After I agreed to the (slightly) higher cost for the relay, Bill called me back and told me that they discovered an existing relay that had been covered up by drywall when the basement was refinished, so they would not need to wire and install a new relay. (There is ANOTHER star!) After the service was complete, Bill said that it is likely that I will get a few more years of good service from our A/C system! If you are looking for a company that is prompt, courteous, thorough, honest and affordable, call McIntire Heating and Air Conditioning, I will not consider using any other company after the pleasure of working with them. read more

Heat died in my Trane Heat Pump. I didn't want to use the last person I had out for other HVAC/Plumbing issues so I came on Yelp. My previous provider, 1 star, McIntire had 4 reviews and 5 starts with some real reviews so I gave them a shot. Called at 8AM, they were are my house around 11:30 and as promised, I received a call from Nick when he was on his way to my house from his previous job. Prompt and good communication, something lacking in most businesses today. Nick showed and explained each of the problems to me, one being that there was a missing wire for one of the circuits (not surprised given the confidence in my last provider who I didn't call this time). Fixed my burned up wire from the other circuit and checked the control panel and jumped two sections of it that I had installed incorrectly. Given their approach to show and explain the issues to you, gives you confidence in their service and business approach. The cost was very reasonable for the service and although we rarely have issues, I'll be calling them again when something comes up. No up sell, no other BS. read more

Patti B's review struck a chord with me. I've spent a lot of money (I don't have) to be proactive and keep the system I have running well. Somewhat disappointed with a bigger outfit, where things seemed to break shortly after techs left, I quit my "maintenance plan" and started looking for a new company to fix my now lack of heat - in 22 degree weather. I called McIntire and was pleasantly surprised when "Nick" came out (even gave me heads-up when he was running behind) and not only fixed my "recently serviced" furnace, he thoroughly diagnosed the furnace's condition. Nick checked everything in the furnace and cleaned the problematic dust/ash that's been there for years, cleaned the clogged furnace coils, made adjustments to the overall system AND re-wired my incorrectly-wired humidifier (installed 5+ years ago) explaining how best to run the system and get the most out of humidifier - I'm thoroughly impressed. I feel like I got my money's worth and will be calling McIntire in the spring to look over my air conditioner next. Nick could've sold me parts I didn't need - but he didn't and I appreciate that. He worked with me to understand the problem and provided me with several options. He walked me through pros and cons of each option and didn't pressure me on which option to choose or how quickly I needed to decide. The pricing was the best in town. They were very accommodating of my hours of availability and got me on the schedule quickly. The guys that did the work showed up on time, were courteous and worked hard to get it right. Danny called the following day to make sure everything was good and see if we had questions. He extended the offer if we had questions over the following weeks. So our heat pump began it's long journey to it's death a couple of years ago. They say "It's hard to stop a TRANE" but I assure you ours was coming to a stop. Then, this last summer it took a turn for the worst. It wasn't cooling, and we had to add $700 worth of R22 Freon to a system that had a slow leak that we couldn't find. The company that came out (not McIntire) basically told me it would soon implode, and I must replace it ASAP for probably $15,000 to $20,000 because I would have to replace the second story heat pump and first story A/C and gas furnace because it was all one system. LIES. LIES. LIES. I called three HVAC companies for additional estimates. The first one gave me a four hour window which required me to take the afternoon off then didn't even show up. When I called they said - "Oh, yea. He's running late." Not a good sign. Scratch them off the list. Business two arrived on time. The salesman was very nice. He was dressed in his company polo and left us a snazzy full color brochure with lots of high priced options. I worried I might be paying for the polo, brochure and catchy jingle I hear on the radio - and, really I only needed a heat pump. Our third estimate was McIntire. Danny, the salesperson, showed up on time. He was professional, courteous, and a great communicator. He wasn't a high pressured salesman. He presented all our options, and answered my follow up emails quickly. His price was $1,000 below the other guys. We didn't have the money right then, so six months later when I called him, he honored the original estimate. He came out within days to confirm our measurements. (Incidentally, he was on time to the minute!) Our system was installed within two weeks. The installation guys were professional, personable, and courteous. They arrived on time. They protected our wood floors (which was a big worry of mine). They installed the heat pump in exactly the amount of time promised. Our upstairs is warm and cozy. I asked them to come out and fix our baseboard heaters ( I tried to replace them and missed a connection somewhere) and to check our heat pump that was short cycling. They came out when the said they would and we were not waiting around for them to show up. Very professional and polite. Had the AC serviced in June and was overall satisfied with the work, thus the 4-star review. However, came home from work today and there was water all over the basement floor which ruined some of the items in the vicinity. Now, I want to be clear this is not a retaliation follow up but after some research as to the common root caused for water leakage I wonder if everything was checked. I mean it's only 3 months later. The likelihood of a failure after three months of service is unlikely. Most water leaks are caused by dirty evap units, clogged drain pans, or clogged drain pipes. Turns out after Jesse came out to diagnose it was a combination of all three. I did show the first tech a leak in one of the elbows and she didn't really have much concern for it. Jesse went above and beyond making sure everything was checked and functional. To the credit of the company they stand behind their work and I was not charged but bought him lunch for his effort. It remains a 4 star review because of the first tech, however Jesse is one outstanding tech. read more
