    Chicken platter to-go
    Mark A.

After eating at the shawarma place across the street a week prior, I decided to stop in to Shawarma Station to check out the competition. It is in the same plaza as Produce Depot, but there are plenty of parking spots available. At lunch on a weekday I've heard it gets very busy, but they seem to work fast. I got the chicken shawarma platter and my wife got the veggie platter (same as we tried across the street). The prices were low here for the amount of food. I think the total was only around $25, and the quality here is higher than other places around town. The chicken in my platter was very moist, but still had some nice crispy bits. The veggie platter had a good assortment of items: roasted veggies, 1 falafel, 1 dolma, rice, potatoes. My wife did indicate that some tabbouleh would have been a nice addition. Like I said, I think the quality is higher here than other places in town. The portions are larger across the street, but it is greasier. If you are looking for hangover help you may be better off going that route, but in general, I'm sticking to Shawarma Palace.

The best shawarma and middle eastern food is made at this restaurant. The area is not the best place in the city. My husband and I are regulars and we always enjoy the food. Everything is made in the house, the chicken is cooked to perfection, soft inside and crispy *not burnt* outside. They offer their succulent garlic sauce and if you're feeling dangerous try the spicy garlic. The best part is the prices and the generous portions. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I did not give them 5 stars because of two important things..1) the washroom and 2)the cleanliness of the sitting restaurant I avoid going to the washroom because it's extremely filthy (piss/wet toilet paper/water jugs/dirtiness everywhere). When you try to use the sink it's dirtier than anything else..a lot of the times there's no soap. I understand they don't have much power over the dining area. But please sweep once in a while and clean the tables. Certain families that go there leave the tables extremely dirty..perhaps a sign would remind certain people to behave like humans. I have witnessed a mother with her five kids throwing food at each other. Great food/Great people Bad location=not the best customer but Shawarma station still manage to make some amazing food.

Toasted zaatar manakish pie with cheese

So this may be a fairly biased review, as I am quite partial towards Shawarma King (either location). I've been here a couple of times, once for just a cheese pie, and another for a sandwich combo. I tried the manakish pies with just plain cheese and a zaatar (like thyme) pie. I actually preferred the plain cheese, which is the whole reason I was introduced to Shawarma Station to begin with. Though the zaatar also had cheese, I was pretty disappointed. It was generally bland, even with the cheese, and didn't even have as much zaatar at all. They toast the 'pies' (basically a personal size doughy kind of bread) right in front of you in what looks like a stone oven. That helps it get a nice flavor, though I'd still stick with the cheese. The first time I had a zaatar pie, I bought it from Boushey's, who actually buys them from Middle East Bakery on Somerset. This zaatar pie was more like a pita, but had much more flavor and the amazing sourish tartness of sumac, plus more sesame seeds and general seasoning. No comparison, so regular cheese pie it is. I got one of the shawarma sandwich combos, and because I'm so gluttonous, I paid extra for the mixed meat, instead of just chicken or beef. I got all of the fillings, with garlic sauce and hot sauce inside, no hummus. It was pretty good, but quite small. I also chose all garlic potatoes, no rice. Potatoes were fresher, though the potent garlic sauce I was so used to eating at Shawarma King was not very potent here. I won't judge the place by it's outdated decor, though I really was disappointed with the food. Overall, not bad, but I've had better. 6/30 #30DaysOfYelp

This place is great because it sells manakeesh which are Arabic breakfast pies. They're basically a flat bread with cheese or thyme which are popular in the middle east. My husband often goes there to pick some up for breakfast and they always taste good and fresh. I have had their chicken shawarma once at 1:30 am and I am able to say it was a pretty tasty sandwhich (considering it was so late!) Staff is nice, lots of parking outside, clean washroom, ample seating in the restaurant, fair pricing too. It's definitely worth a try if you're in the area.

Ordered the Shawarma Mixed Plate, a colossal amount of food for the money, tasted great though! This is definitely one of the best Shawarma places I've been to.

All this for 10.99 pluse a side of garlic and hummus included

We love Lebanese food as one of our best friends is from Lebanon and opened our eyes. It was sketchy walking in, it looked closed and the parking lot was empty other than 2 other cars. But, upon opening the door and making our way to the dining area it was much better. Clearly this used to be a BIG operation back in the day, but now looks like it is mostly for take out or quick meals. The dining area and kitchen were all bright and clean. The man behind the counter was very friendly and was happy to sell us a couple of falafel on the side. He custom makes each wrap and plate for the guest which is great. You can see the meat on the spits as well as all of the fresh veg and sauces. He takes his time to build it just right for us which was really nice. Good menu options, I would have liked to try more. We really enjoyed our mixed wrap. He was kind enough to put the hot sauce on one half and not the other. Both were great. The falafel was quite dry, and the sauce didn't really help much. Good flavor. Overall it is a solid option, I'd get it again in a pinch, but the meats and falafel were quite dry. Service was great, everything was fresh and it was a great stop for us.

The mixed shawarma platter ($15.99) comes with beef and chicken shawarma, potatoes, rice (they have white rice with vermicelli and brown rice and I got half and half), pickles, pickled turnips, garlic sauce, hummus, a salad and a pita. I asked for the salad dressing on the side. The meat was good, but the beef was less lean than I like. The white rice with vermicelli was soft and fluffy, but the brown rice was a bit harder. The hummus was thick and smooth and the garlic sauce was rich and creamy. The salad had red peppers, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, red cabbage and onions. No pita chips. Vegetables were fresh. I liked the creamy pink salad dressing. The pita was ok. It was wrapped in paper like a big candy or one of those Christmas crackers/holiday poppers. Service was neutral. They have a fairly large dining area inside and some seats outside as well. Lots of free parking in their own private parking lot.

Based on other reviews, especially Keith T.'s, I ordered the half grilled boneless chicken plate with Bokhari rice. The plate also comes with turnips, salad, hummus, and garlic. I decided to upgrade the salad to a fattoush salad, get an additional 2oz hummus and garlic sauce (I didn't know how big/small the ones would be that came with the platter), as well as 2oz of Ali's Hot Sauce and an additional Kabab Halabi skewer. The chicken was cooked perfectly, great char but still super moist. the hot sauce was very spicy. The fresh herbs and vegetables on the side were such a great pairing. The fattoush was good, especially with the extra crispy pita chips on top. I do wish, however, that plain rice was an option, as I actually didn't need flavoured rice and would've preferred plain. My husband ordered a chicken taouk wrap with garlic, lettuce, onion, and tomato, plus batata hara and a Coke Zero. I've never had fateh before and also wanted to try it because of Hadia G.'s review. I got a single order. It had freshly cooked chickpeas with a mix of yogurt and tahini on a bead of pita chips and topped with pine nuts. This was by far my favourite and I could eat it ALL DAY. My husband and I were obsessed. OBSESSED! It was warm and delicious, creamy but not super rich, and very flavourful rather than just salty. I swear it should be illegal to eat this many pita chips, but we just couldn't stop. This is a bold statement, but I think it's one of the top vegetarian dishes I've ever had. It's on the breakfast menu but is available all day. I got knafeh for dessert, also for the first time. It was nice and cheesy, and I expected it to be sweet, but maybe just a little too sweet for me. Since this was my first time trying fateh, I can't compare it to anywhere else, but I would absolutely order it again and again!

For us modest appetites, this is easily 3 meals - easily! We ordered 2 plates and a sandwich for 4 people and still had enough leftovers for a small breakfast the morning after. My personal favorite was the mixed shawarma plate. I love how it comes with pita made specifically for Shawarma Palace, rice, potatoes, salad, pickled veg, and the meat. We also got the mixed kabob plate which featured tender beef but the chicken kabob was just a hair bit dry. The falafel sandwich was actually very dry and I would not recommend this. We also picked up some baklava for dessert after and I liked how it was just sweet enough! You can taste the pistachios and I thought the kiss of rose water was just enough to make the bite memorable!

Quickly looked at Yelp and saw a fantastic number of reviews. So this place looked to be the real thing. I stepped up to the counter and ordered the beef shawarma platter to eat in. The guys just kept piling more and more on the platter. It was absolutely ridiculously huge by the time they were done. It was stacked with beef on top. As I paid, I asked for a take-out container. There was no hesitation. So obviously, this is the way they do it. I sat in the super clean dining area and started in on this massive dish. Then I saw a young family carry their plates to a table adjacent to me. And they all had these massive plates too. So after stuffing myself and hardly putting a dent in this pile of food I had to load up the take out clamshell. It would hardly close and weighed 2-3lbs (after filling myself). So if you want to buy one dish and eat a tasty healthy meal for a week. This is your place. It seemed very clean in the restaurant (signs say leave your dishes on the table - so they are obviously bussing the tables regularly). The washroom was also exceptionally clean. The staff that built my meat mountain were super friendly. I would certainly recommend this place!
