I have been craving gyros and mediterranean food constantly lately, so I was excited to try Shawarma King yesterday! I ran here because I was in a pinch for time, in the U District, and on a Sunday a lot of places on the Ave can close early, so I figured I should try this place out! I am obsessed with Shawarma King and am SO happy I tried it! I ordered the lamb gyro to go, and let me just say, I wish I could go here on a daily basis. The gyro was around $6.50 I think and it was so big!! I was honestly so surprised by how much they give you for your money! 10/10 such a great deal. You can taste that the gyro is good quality. It is definitely Egyptian style and I love love love it! Overall, this is one of my new favorite Shawarma/Gyro/Halal/Mediterranean spots! I would eat here everyday if I lived here. No doubt! I love Mediterranean food. I went with the safe bet and ordered a Gyro combo that came with fries and a drink. Pita was soft and warm. Lamb was delicious and slices of rotisserie with tatziki sauce. On top of the lamb you pretty much have a Greek salad with lettuce, parsley, cucumber, and tomato tossed in sumac and mint dressing. My first thought was this Gyro is huge! I'll never eat all of it. Well it was so good I scarfed it down, along with my fries. I'm a tatziki sauce lover and they put a liberal amount on, but what set it apart was the garnishment that I don't always get with Gyros. You have a hint of mint and fresh parsley with the creaminess of the tatziki and it's just wonderful and fresh! Maybe I'm just a fan of Greek fries but these were A1. It's super cheap like $3.99 for a decent portion and the fries come out hot and crunchy slathered in sauce. There's not too much topping that it overpowers the fries which I really liked. Go get yourself some Greek fries, I promise you it won't disappoint. read more

Came here for lunch man it's impossible to park in the U-D on a weekend. Parked a few streets away and hoofed it because I was craving a shawarma sammich and they are pretty dang good here! I had the chicken shawarma of course! Stacks of chicken with shawarma goodness, tomatoes, lettuce. You can always tell a good shawarma if you need to break out the chicken shawarma kick stand, the pinky finger extended out to catch the juices. This place and a place in Woodinville are my two faves out of 15 shawarma places. For me the shawarma has to have the long shawarma pickles. Good flavor that hits up in my nose with some spice. Surprisingly solid food in U-District TIP: There are 2 of these shops both on University Way and only a handful of blocks away from each other. Make sure you're traveling to the right one especially if you ordered online. Ambience/Service: From the outside to the inside, this looks and feels like a college joint. There are large signs saying it's open for late night grub. The people that are manning the counter are super friendly. Food (I'm vegetarian, my wife is not): Being a shawarma place, my wife ordered the lamb shawarma. I got the falafel sandwich. This was for lunch. She said hers was solid. Mine was pretty great, with deeper-than-usual fried falafel that gave it a richer flavor and a great tahini sauce. It was probably just a touch more acidic than I would like but that gave it a nice bite. I also wanted to try their turkish coffee as we've had some solid versions of this but this was disappointing and watered-down both in coffee flavor and in rose water and herb flavors. DO NOT GO HERE!! The only thing worse than the food was the service. Due to my sons allergy restrictions we specifically asked if they used peanuts or used peanut oil in the dish we ordered, and they assured us there was not. My son went into anaphylactic shock and had to be rushed to the hospital. But that was not even the worst part of our experience... the staff were very rude to me and my family from the moment we walked in the door. My family is Irish as you can presume, we all have red hair. The staff looked at us like we were from another planet and whispered and pointed. When our waiter came, he started playing with my daughters hair in awe of her Amber lochs, which of course made her very uncomfortable and self conscious. I've been coming here for about 4+ years (I used to live 2 blocks from the old location) and I will probably continue to come here for as long as I live in the greater Seattle area. This place is incredibly delicious and affordable. More recently I discovered that I could have my combo with GREEK FRIES (for an additional charge) and my life was changed forever. The gyros here aren't your typical cheap "you can buy this at the county fair" gyros. They are so delicious, and HUGE. The meat is juicy and spiced to perfection. The shawarma is what makes this place special, though. You can get a shawarma sandwich, or get it on a plate with a pita, hummus, and the works. Both are delicious but I prefer the plate. I usually get the lamb gyro, and my bf gets the lamb shawarma plate. I always steal his food, though (and I'm not sorry). The staff is super nice, as if I needed more of a reason to keep coming back. One time at the old location, a drunk dude was pestering me as I approached the restaurant and he FOLLOWED ME into the restaurant, continuing to harass me. The guys at the counter got him to leave and apologized profusely (not that it was their fault at all), and they gave me some free dessert! Such a nice group of guys. Speaking of free dessert, being a regular here really pays off. The guy I see at the register has my order memorized and often hooks it up with said free dessert just because. I liked this restaurant, but I do not see it as a four or 5 star place. . The best dish we got here was the falafel. They were quite crunch on the outside and flavorful on the inside. Just what you'd expect. The pita bread was good too. The lentil soup was meh. Doctoring it with lime / salt helped, but overall it was just not that flavorful. The staff were super friendly and since it was so MAMMOTH they even brought it out to us. The chicken was the standout for me, but the other options- lamb and beef- were both tasty as well. I got the veggie sandwich and its described as a sandwich with eggplant, cauliflower, tomatoes, garlic sauce, pickles etc wrapped in pita bread (mine was completely ripped and couldnt be eaten as a sandwich) but it seems like someone put those things into a blender and microwaved it for 30 seconds before throwing it in the pita. I got a combo that came with fries and they were undercooked and cold. I asked for a side of tzaziki sauce and it tasted like it was made with real yogurt, not greek. Gahhh omg i cant stop eating here. It does feel a bit costly, $7 for a shawarma, that is kinda like a thin burrito, BUT ITS SO DELICIOUS I CANT RESIST. The meat was so nicely seasoned, flavorful, and tasty, the sandwich wrap was crisp and warm. My first time at shawarma king was when i was ahem, a bit intoxicated. It was soo good and satisfying I had to return sober to make sure my taste buds were not lying to me. I'm glad to say my tongue done lie! I have gotten the Shwarma sandwich maybe a dozen times. The first time I went, it was so darn good that I embarrassingly had to go back up to the counter and ask for another one to eat there, and another one to go. I made sure to tip well because I knew I would come back so frequently. I wish I could make it out more often, you just really can't beat that sandwich and fries combo.
