The subcontracters were professional and easy to deal with . The project manager was great. It took a lot longer than I had hoped but all in all I was very happy. However, it turns out that they do not stand by their work. Months after the job was done, the drywall around my first floor shower started to crumble. I sent Kevin photos. Without coming to see it, he "diagnosed" the problem - that water was getting in between the bathtub and tub enclosure and damaging the wall. He said it was a common problem with tub enclosures and he could fix it for $1500. I said ok and he had his project manager Dave come to look at it. It was only then that we realized that was NOT the problem. When the bathroom was done they had left the round metal part that the shower handle is attached to ungrouted. It was loose and would spin around. I asked the plumber about it when he did the bathtub and shower install and he said "its fine". I didn't question it because he ALSO left it the same way on the upstairs shower. I thought that probably the pipe behind it was fully grouted so that water could go behind the round part but would not permeate behind the tub enclosure. So anyway Dave realized quickly that water was going behind the round part, into where the pipes were and behind the tub enclosure. That was what was causing the damage; the job had been not fully completed. The fixture should have been grouted. He assured me that I would not need to pay for repairs to the wall. I asked Kevin to schedule a repair and he insisted on payment, as we had agreed before. But that agreement was before we realized that the entire problem was caused by his subcontractors not finishing the job in the first place.

Kaya was the brightest spot in all of it, and we've worked with some really great people. I can't speak highly enough about his processes and his level of professionalism. His is a dying breed and the world is worse off every time someone like him retires. He and his company is unbelievably customer oriented and knows his products in and out and does not try to sell you anything, he provides the pros as well as the cons of different cabinets and features and does not make you feel judged or uncomfortable for feeling one or the other about anything. He offered his opinion on how he thought the layout would work best but at the same time went out of his way to listen to what we were thinking. He is old school which I loved. He plotted our whole kitchen out by hand on our first meeting based on the measurements given to him by our architect. He then used his computer programs to generate views from different angles of the way the kitchen would end up at our next appointment. Kaya went out to our house to measure to make sure he knew the layout like the back of his hand (good luck getting anyone at a big box store to even remember your name let alone measure your house). If I could work with Kaya on every aspect for any project we ever do, I will. I was so pleased working with him I still bring him up to my wife and when we'll get to meet with him next to this day. There is no one else I would ever recommend for a kitchen remodel but Kaya and Kickspace.

Kickspace had a beautiful kitchen setup in the window and I decided to stop in and see what they were all about. Well, when I walked in, I looked around and saw a woman sitting in the back at a desk. She saw me, I saw her. I expected her to ask how she could help me but instead she completely ignored me. So, I took the initiative and said hello and asked for help. She reluctantly got up and followed me to the kitchen I had questions about. When we got there, I asked if she could tell me anything about it and if she had any pricing. She basically told me they don't do that and looked annoyed. I wanted to respond with "Oh, well what do you do? Your sign says kitchen and bathroom cabinets?" I walked in there with a $40,000 budget willing to do business and she dropped the ball in 30 seconds. Overall, just a terrible experience.

(As for the lengthy bid that another reviewer mentioned: yes, it was lengthy, but I liked the thoroughness and in fact used WKB's bid as a yardstick against comparing other bids. I'd gotten estimates of the project via text from other contractors and when I asked "does that include clean-up?" or something else, I'd find that no, they'd forgotten to include it. With WKB's bid, there were no surprises.) Ben was the lead on our deck renovation and also polite, professional and happy to answer any questions. I appreciated that he and Jared met with us right before the work started to figure out what space could be used for storing materials, where to put a dumpster, etc. instead of just assuming. There were a few days when the weather was bad, and Ben got in touch just to let us know that he would be coming the next day. As I said above, there were no surprises and we knew what was going on every step of the way. We're very happy with our deck and would use WKB for another project.

Designworks gave us a sparkling new hardwood floor and cushiony top-of-the line carpeting on the 2nd floor for the first job. Paul came highly recommended by friends and quite frankly when you see his work it sells itself. We went with them even though the estimate was higher than another contractor because this company bases their estimates off the costs of the highest priced supplies. The real cost depends on the quality of product you choose to have installed. So these estimates are truely accurate if you want the best product in your property investment. Given the amount of stress I was under due to planning our wedding in 3 months, moving and changing employers, working with Designworks was a stress relief. When the work was complete my house was sparkling. They vacuumed the entire house, no foot prints, saw dust or any trace of their presence was left behind! They handled demolition, moving heavy appliances out of the kitchen and recommended tiling for the entryways to preserve the life of the wood. Being a new homeowner I was so thankful for Paul's knowledge. He clearly communicated all costs and any decisions we had to make. We just hired Designworks to update our bathroom venthilation system and toilets this past April,2012. Again, so happy with the work.
