We just purchased our home with 2 1/2 acres of forested land, and we are learning land management…read moreas we begin to work with our outdoor space. After extensive research, we decided to go with Brandon and his crew at Arbor Science. They mostly don't advertise; it's word of mouth, and let me tell you, I found a whole bunch of people that have used him for years, and are extremely happy (I hear their trees are also happy too). :-) First, Brandon did a through site survey with us, and took the time to not only tells us about the many species of trees we had on our property, but helped us to understand how natural drainage would work on our particular plot and also gave a really good explanation for why we would want to leave some areas natural. We got a great "bucket list" quote showing the costs if we were to do everything we wanted (so it gave us a really good idea of the price tag on our total vision), and then he worked with us to help us identify the most important items to do first. We plan to chip away (ha!) at our list of things we want to do, a bit at a time. What I really like is that we are establishing a long-term relationship with our land, and our arborist. We are the ultimate beneficiaries of managing our land and trees well, and Brandon will help us do that in a sustainable and ecologically friendly way. Not to mention working with us a bit at a time, as we can afford to have him out to work. As far as the work went, our crew was incredibly professional and knowledgeable. Their experience level was obvious. Brandon came out several times that day to make sure everything was going according to plan. Our two main trees (which are huge) closest to our home were the priority concern, as prior owners had not done a whole lot. They took their time, and got them both just right. With the job they did, we won't need another thing done to those particular trees for 3-5 years. The day went well, they were careful, everything was done safely, and the clean-up was perfect. I truly appreciate the ability to build a relationship with a top notch, certified arborist, who is passionate about what he does, and will help us to maintain one of our most important assets, our trees.

By far the worst contractor experience I've ever had. I hired them in late September of 2022 for…read moresome very basic landscaping. They promised it'd be done in one to two months. (Which at the time should have been a warning, since the work I requested should have taken a week or less.) It is now mid-February of 2023 and the work still isn't done! They've left a wheelbarrow, weed whacker, and a pile of garbage bags full of yard debris sitting in my yard since November. I haven't heard from them since December. Of the incomplete work that they have done: - I had a grass and dirt driveway that I asked to be replace with sod, with mulch on the edges. Pretty standard yard, right? Instead, they put one color of mulch on the edge and filled the rest of the yard/driveway with a different color of mulch! And they did nothing to kill or cover the grass underneath, so now the mulch is full of grass and weeds. - I had two front yard patches with some lovely flowers, where I wanted the weeds pulled and some decorative rocks and plants added. I paid for those rocks in September and despite multiple promises that they were being delivered on a certain day, they have never arrived. Instead of only pulling the weeds, the help that they hired pull most of the nice plants out, including roses, but did nothing to kill the deep-rooted weeds that needed removing. So what had been my flower patches are now mostly bare dirt and weeds. So now I'm out thousands of dollars and my yard looks embarrassingly worse than if I'd never hired them at all. As a first-time homeowner who hadn't yet had a bad contractor experience, I'll chalk this up to an expensive lesson learned. From now on, I'll make sure to get everything in writing and never pay for work until it's actually done.

He did a good job cutting the tree down, but unfortunately, he was not professional, has an obvious anger problem and is a poor communicator. I have 3 other trees that he was going to cut down but when he finished the job, I was out of town, and told him I would pay him upon my return. He demanded payment at once, and then put a lien on my place when I told him I wanted to wait and make sure the job was done completely to my satisfaction upon my return, which was only a few days. Two huge limbs of our maple trees came down during the recent windstorm, and we were on the search…read morefor a crew who could cut down the limbs which were nearing close to the power lines in order to make sure that we and our neighbors were safe. I called 4 different tree services, which had a wide range of prices, everything from $875 to $1500! The $1500 price had said they'd have to hire a crew of 3 people and would be at our house all day. Yikes! We didn't hire them. Then, I contacted Larry at Treehappy by email. Because we didn't hear from him for 3 days, he apologized for the late response, saying that he usually responds better to voicemails, but how could I know that? he reasoned. I appreciated his apology, and his warmth, directness, and his willingness to reach out. During his free inspection, he offered the lowest fee (not knowing the other estimates), and also discussed with great wisdom, what might need to happen in years to come (to take down the tree as it was mostly dead), as well as the city permit we would need to get, as these were city trees. He assured us that it would be finished within a few hours, and it was! They also cleaned up all the debris, including debris that they did not cut down! We hired him on the spot! I liked that he worked with us within our price range, that his crew was incredibly efficient, and also responsible; one of the guys accidentally trimmed 1 extra limb and offered us money for it! Of course, we didn't take it, but his and Treehappy's level of accountability was extraordinary! We couldn't be happier! I see why Treehappy has its name! We are so happy, and you can bet that we'll be calling them again when that tree needs to come down! If you want a warm and friendly, responsive, efficient, and affordable tree service, look no further! Larry and his crew at Treehappy are IT!!! Tips: If it's a city tree, you need to get a permit. You can get one on the city's website: https://www.portlandoregon.gov/trees/ We paid with a check. Whenever you hire a tree service, they should clean up after themselves, and Treehappy will! It's best to call rather than use their online form. ;)
