This is the third time we've asked Oregon Tree Care to support the health of our trees. The professional arborist came out to listen to my concerns; look at the trees; and give his advice. They always surprise me at the depth of their knowledge, and "tree wisdom." This time, trim and balance the little maple near the house; and the bit one at the curb that the County whacked off limbs overhanging the street. It needed reducing on the house side, and removal of dead limbs. Plus remove a filbert that was a "volunteer" in my neighbor's yard, that was brushing out house. (neighbor had given permission) As usual with this company: care for the heath of the trees; competent work; everything chipped and taken away; and I don't know how they cleaned up the sawdust, too! And I was surprised at the lower-than-expected cost. I'll keep calling them. read more

Tried these guys out, as I was dissatisfied with the previous business I used to trim my hedge. OTC did the job, but i noticed the hedge bulged and was not cut in straight line. It had been a long time since I had the hedge trimmed and squared in that manner, and the hedge had become much fuller since then. I called to ask about his, not sure even if the job was done incorrectly and was calling to ask if it should have been cut in a straight line. I tried to be personable and non-accusatory, because like I said, I didn't even know if what I was noticing was a poor job or just the limit with what they could do with my hedge. What I got back was the guy talking to me like he wanted a confrontation and he ended up calling me a liar ("disingenuous" was the word he used.) I don't know who the guy was, but I can say that I will never use this business again and tell anyone else, caveat emptor with OTC This is the response I got in return from this review: Damien C. One of this company's trucks traveling on I-205 north here in Portland at 70 to 75 miles an hour in a 55 mph Zone pulling a trailer. Very unprofessional. Would not recommend. The original person who came out for the estimate was great and said he would be the one servicing my trees. Turns out, he was not part of the crew who cut my five trees. The crew rushed through my job and didn't finish until it was dark so I did not get a walk-through to inspect their work. They left debris all over my yard and vehicle parts and other debris in the street. When I asked if they were going to clean it up, they returned and spent less than five minutes cleaning up and threw my lawn tools on the side of my house. The owner called three weeks ago after I said I was disappointed and said he would be out to do a walk-through and clean up some of the debris the crew left. I never heard back from him. When looking at my trees today, they cut way too many branches and now I'm worried about the health of my trees. Very disappointing experience. read more

Now I can write an honest review without fear of repercussions. My neighbor was going to use Damien's services to trim a white pine on my property. It was in December. I was concerned about it being too cold to trim much off of the tree so I called OTC and left a message with my concerns. I never heard back. So I left a review on Yelp about their company. Well, of course I immediately heard back from Damien after my review posted. He was angry and his tone was making me uncomfortable. Since he knew who I was and where I lived, I deleted the review. I was uncomfortable with the whole incident. Now that I have moved out of state I am comfortable leaving this review. Update: After reading the comment from the company I will say this was a truthful review of MY experience with this company, mine only. Not a fake review or a "troll" as was the "professional" response from the business. Check my other reviews, 16 positive, 20 negative, not too much of a difference in my other reviews. Big P.S. I love this company! Our yard looks amazing now! We just moved into our new home a few weeks ago and the trees definitely needed some overdue TLC. My husband reached out to Damien, based on a referral by our landscaper and we received a response right away. We scheduled our initial walk-through and Damien was on time and super easy to talk to. Their pricing came in lower than a big name in town and they were available two weeks earlier than the other company we priced out. On site, they had the whole front yard coned off and "slow down" safety sandwich boards on the street. There was a team of four, with Jess running the group. They were all friendly, professional and efficient. I really appreciate how nice they were to each other too - you could tell they work well as a team and put safety first. At the end of each day (we had them for two days), they chipped all of the pruned branches and limbs, used a leaf blower to remove all the little leaves and twigs that fell, and left the yard as they found it. It's like they were never there, except our trees look so much happier and healthier! Also worth mentioning, it was pouring on and off for the two days they were here, and they just powered through it. I'm super impressed and will definitely use them again. read more

We lost part of a tree in the spring snowstorm. We were really hopeful the tree could be saved, as we have 2 in the parking strip. OTC's arborist came to evaluate it and felt the the tree could indeed be saved, with some trimming to protect it for the future. They trimmed both Hornbeams for what we thought was a reasonable amount. We were very pleased with their professionalism and will definitely use them in the future! read more

These guys are great, on time and reliable. This was my 2nd time using them for trimming trees that were growing too close to my house.

My review is written based off an experience about a year ago at this point. I called about an apple tree in my backyard, 1 trunk fell down and the top half was in my neighbor's lawn. First off, he told us he was going to be here by 1pm for the estimate and he ended up showing up late. Next he gave us 2 quotes, one smaller quote ($150) to take a part a fallen piece of a tree and then quoted us $400 to prune the rest of my tree. He was great other than showing up late. At that point, no biggie. We told him we needed to think about it. He told us to give him a call before 8pm that night and if we did, he would be back out tomorrow to take care of everything. We called him back at 6:30pm, he didn't pick up, fine no big deal. He calls back almost an hour later. We tell him that we shopped around a bit and another place said they would charge us $250 for the pruning job but we were OK with the $150 for the fallen tree. He goes "how about $275?". Seemed reasonable. We told him let's hold off on the full job but if he could do the more immediate piece (take care of the fallen tree trunk) we can make arrangements for the $275 later. He said "OK, since it's late now I have no idea what is on my schedule tomorrow, let me call Tracy (I guess his assistant) in the morning and call you tomorrow at 9". It sounded reasonable. The next day, 9 rolls around, no call. We called him at 10am and leave him a message. By 8pm that night, still no calls back from Damien. He totally blew us off. How can you do that to a customer!? If you're not going to take the job don't commit to anything. read more

I wish I had checked the reviews before I hired this business. I'm c/p in a letter that I just sent to them. Clearly shows our experience with them... Damien and Oregon Tree Care: Recently you came and pruned the trees on our property. We did our research and although you were not the cheapest bid we received, we felt comfortable that the health of the trees were your main concern. You were fairly attentive, scheduling our trim soon after we hired you. We went so far as to recommend you to someone in our neighborhood and write a good review on ____. Then we noticed there was a very large dead limb and many, many smaller dead limbs on our 100 year old oak tree. We've called 4-5 times and although we are promised a return call, that has not happened yet. It's frustrating, as customers, to be treated one way before you get our money and then another way after you received it. We still have dead limbs and we are worried about the safety of ourselves, our property and pets, and any guests we might have visiting. So now we can continue to contact you (although that doesn't seem to do any good) or find someone else to come and finish your job (either the limbs were missed or that weren't apparent during the tree's dormant phase). I'm writing this letter to express my frustration, to inform you that I will be amending my positive review on ____ and that we will no longer refer anyone to your company and will in fact go back to the people we've already recommended you to and let them know about our full, disappointing experience. I'm sure you've heard the saying that it takes far less effort and money on your part to keep an existing customer than it does to attract a new customer. We have 5 large trees on our property, one giant, and 4 small trees--we could have potentially been a customer that would have used your services many times. read more

Unfortunately I have not had good luck with Oregon Tree Care. I rent a house and there's a huge Oak tree on the property. The owner of the house and I agreed to have the tree trimmed. I called Oregon Tree Care and scheduled the work to be done. I was very clear about being the renter, and explained that the home owner would be mailing payment. They understood and everything was all set. The two-man team showed up an hour late, and said they had just come from another big job. They were tired, hungry, and clearly in need of a break. After a short break they set to work on the big Oak tree. An hour or so later they told me it was done, and when I looked at it I couldn't tell anything had been trimmed at all. He explained that the tree was not in great health and so he didn't want to trim it back too much and traumatize it. He recommended I have a professional come out and treat the tree, and said he'd send me the name of a pro who was the best, but he never did. I couldn't help but feel like these guys just didn't want to do the work, and used my ignorance about tree health as an excuse to not trim the tree completely. The home owner paid for the tree work the same day the work occurred. However, Oregon Tree Care's accounting department continued to send me emails regarding payment for the next several weeks. I finally had to call and explain that I was the renter, not the home owner, and payment had already been provided by the home owner. A few months later I needed to have a tree removed from another property I own. I called Oregon Tree Care to get an estimate. I talked to a woman who said that I would get a call back within 48 hours to schedule a time for someone to come out to give an estimate. Really? 48 hours to get a call to schedule an estimate? This is the second time we've used Oregon Tree Care to look after our Japanese Maples which had been pruned incorrectly in the past. The crew came in and did a great job of pruning again without jeopardizing the health of the trees and also worked on trimming of a huge Pin Oak that had a lot of deadwood at the lower branches. Called for them to come out to take down a damaged Crab Apple tree on a commercial property. While this was the only tree we were currently having addressed, there are several others that we are planning to have removed before Fall. The crew showed up as they were supposed to, and the area had been prepared for them to work in, but that is where things went downhill. The tech was rude and arrogant to the property manager. It was completely uncalled for and unprofessional, and considering this is a public area and a rental property where residents can see as well as hear things going on, unable to be tolerated.
