Finding a good hair stylist can be a chore as there are so many fast-food equivalents out there. I…read moremean sure they can cut hair, but are they masters of the smaller techniques? Hair is one of the most important visual cues we have to inaudibly announce who we are, a sort of set of nonverbal cliff notes, if those are still around. As for finding a good one, I've been through three and after a butcher job and a store closing I've found someone I entrust my furry noggin to and who never fails to go above and beyond. Out of the Blue Salon in Kyle and specifically Mary are the muses of my scalp. The store front is close to the railroad tracks near mainstreet Kyle and in a relatively safe part of town. Walking in, the place is always clean and with a jovial atmosphere. The music ranges from.... "dude, what is that" to "sweet Pink Floyd." The décor is simple yet with a local art flair, demonstrating that these ladies are not only good at their craft but they're real artists at heart. That's important b/c true, soulful artists take pride in their craft and aren't pushing people in and out like the aforementioned fast-food mentality. Mary is a very gifted stylist, exceptional at taking a picture and replicating in real life. As the website indicates they have their number on there to contact them. Mary generally takes a day to get back to me and we have things lined up within two days. Sitting in her chair she's very caring and detail oriented, making sure every nook and cranny is addressed. She's not the fastest but above average and I believe that has more to do with my incessant jabbering and making jokes than her skill. As for the cuts, they're always on the money and when she adds highlights or dyes my hair it's perfect. We even have an ongoing joke when I got my hair colored from somewhere else it wasn't blonde but... we'll that's between us. Finally, she's somewhat of a throwback to old school barber shops. Able to hold an engaging conversation which passes the time with a smile. I can't speak upon all the services provided here but from my experiences I'm extremely satisfied. The place is safe, the prices are fair and the staff is friendly. At Out of the Blue Salon you're not only having your hair styled, but you're making a friend and enjoying the visit. I highly recommend this spot for all of your hair needs.

He's five now, which feels like a long enough runway to have a real opinion. Overall, the experience is strong and, more importantly, repeatable. From a haircut standpoint, it's been consistently good with a little variation depending on the stylist. I usually ask for a longer, shaggy, surfer-style cut, and Reese has been the standout. She's calm, asks thoughtful questions before she starts, and most importantly, delivers the same result every time. That consistency matters more than anything. There have been a couple of one-off moments with other stylists where the cut skewed a little... medieval pageboy. Not terrible, just not quite what I was going for. It reinforced the strategy: find your person and stick with them. The setup is very kid-oriented in a way that actually works. Car-shaped chairs, individual TVs at each station, and a pace that keeps things moving without feeling rushed. They clearly know how to cut hair on kids who don't sit still, which is a real skill. The reward at the end doesn't hurt either. Lollipop, balloon, the whole thing. One especially thoughtful touch is their first haircut package. They take a lock of hair, package it up, and really make a moment out of it. It sounds small, but it's not. That first haircut sneaks up on you emotionally, and having that little golden curl saved has ended up meaning more than I expected. Logistically, it's pretty easy to make this work in real life. Booking online is straightforward, and during the week I've been able to get in same day or with just a day's notice. Weekends seem busier, but manageable if you plan ahead. They do occasionally run 15 to 20 minutes behind, but it's predictable enough that I just factor it in. One small usability note: the booking system across locations looks very similar, and it's surprisingly easy to book the wrong one if you're not paying attention. I've done it. That said, they were accommodating and got me in anyway, which helped. The waiting area is a bit tight, but turnover is quick so it hasn't been a real issue. One thing that stands out over time is how comfortable they are working with kids who are constantly moving, negotiating, or just doing their own thing. Overall, this is a reliable, low-friction option that feels designed for how kids (and parents) actually operate. Not perfect across every stylist, but very solid once you find your lane.

This spot was packed. 4 kids were already being served and 2 were waiting. They had quite a few things in space to make it a pleasant experience for the kiddos. A slide, balloons, tv, lollipops. And the cool car like chairs. My poor kid hated every minute of it but he's just sensitive to being away from mama. My husband was able to hold him during the whole appointment but it's unclear if that even helped. Over all it was a great experience for us, especially me, as a type A parent. And my son is super cute with his new haircut. I'm not going to blame the stylist cause my kid is unruly and doesn't want a hair cut. They were great, patient, accommodating, and effective! Will absolutely return for our little guy's next haircut.

First of all the person at the front desk who I assume also answers the phone is very rude and has no business being in a customer facing role with that bad attitude. When booking the appointment, no one asked whether I'd prefer a "lead stylist" or a regular one, so we were automatically booked with a regular one. Appointments were back to back at 3 and 3:30. My 7 year old went first. She has thick straight hair - I asked them to even it out and take off 2 inches. The haircut was very obviously uneven upon "completion"; it was alarming that the stylist hadn't noticed it herself. She started to fix it and made it lopsided, then had to fix it again. Both times she tried to blame my daughter for being too "fidgety" or "hunched over" when she never gave her instructions on how to sit and turn her head, etc. We finally got to an okay place 45 minutes later. I asked the lead stylist to do my younger one's haircut and she was pretty fast and efficient. She was also a bit nicer. Much better than the other one. Glad I figured this out, as my 3 year old has curly hair which is a lot more complicated to cut. Most kids hair salons will style and tie the girls hair up at the end with a bow, or something cute. Here, despite the hefty price tag, they do nothing. Needless to say I will not be coming back. Think twice before going here.

She's very talented, extremely patient and kind and my family always looks like a million bucks after leaving her place. She has toys and snacks for the kids to keep them occupied and if you like, she will put something on her tablet for them to watch while waiting or while cutting. I love that I'm supporting a local woman but the bottom line is, she's an amazing hair dresser with a heart of gold and thaaat's why we have been going to her all of these years. Absolutely fabulous. Fatim knows her way around kids hair - period. She's just really patient and takes her time. She used to fit our kids hair at Snipits and I'd always be amazed that there would be a line of families waiting for her to cut their kids hair while the other stylists just sat and chatted. She's that good. We visited her own place for the first time today. She has done everything to keep the kids happy and want to be there for their haircut. At the end she offers with permission balloons on a stick (so cool!), animal crackers, and lollipops. Honestly none of this matters if the haircut isn't great and it is. She's more affordable than other kids haircut places which is a bonus! Give her a call and schedule an appointment, you won't regret it!
