Far East Fusion - Roasted pork belly

Far East Fusion

2 - stars just for the service. And to be honest, the service was subpar…read more Ordered a variety of things from the menu. Mee ka thung w/beef and shrimp (upgrade charge $3), banh hoi, 1/2 lb of crispy roast pork, beef sticks, with drinks. Sprite and Vietnamese coffee. Mee ka thung: 0/5 do not recommend. It was bland. No taste. No charring of the noodles. The egg was overly cooked and we added that as an extra. The shrimp and the beef tasted off. It was fishy. Banh Hoi: 1/5 would recommend. Only good thing was the sweet fish sauce it came with. The pork belly was meh. Didn't have flavor. Tasted not fresh. Not crispy. Crispy pork belly: 0/5 do not recommend. The pork belly wasn't crispy. Tasted like they had it out for awhile and basically warmed it up when we ordered. The skin wasn't crispy. It was chewy. No flavor. No nothing. Did not taste fresh. Beef skewers: 0/5 do not recommend. Again, no flavor. No fatty pieces to counter the dryness of the meat. Nothing. The worst part. There were no pickled veggies. If they knew their skewers were dry, they should definitely have pickled veggies to off-balance the dryness. The only 2 good things that were good was the Vietnamese coffee and the fish sauce that came with the banh Hoi. Service was mediocre. Had to grab our own silverware from a near by table. Had to ask for plates. Had to ask for refills for our water. They didnt come around to check on us. We actually to wave them down. I don't live in the area, but even if I did, I wouldn't be back.

We made an early reservation since we saw they do Happy Hour 4PM to 5:00PM everyday so we had to get in on that. We walked and and were seated at our table. They made sure to let us know you can sit anywhere during Happy Hour and still get the specials where many restaurants limit it to a bar area. Rustica does a great job of Happy Hour. They have appetizers, cocktails, beer, Sake, wine, and even main course happy hour entrees too. I started off with a cocktail going for the Liliko Martini which I really enjoyed. I have really been into my Passion Fruit drinks lately. We of course had to get some of the Happy Hour appetizers too and we might have gone a little overboard but for sure worth it. We got: The Naan Bread Yellow Beet Salad Crispy Tofu Roasted Pork Belly Bao Crispy Pork and Shrimp Lumpia Japanese Style Fried Chicken These were a great way to start off dinner and not one of them were $8 or less. If I had to pick favorites the best was for sure the Roasted Pork Belly Bao. I think it might have been the best Pork Belly Bao I had ever had. I was a large thick piece of Pork Belly but it just melted you your mouth and had so much flavor. We also very much enjoyed the Crispy Pork and Shrimp Lumpia which were much bigger then expected. The Japanese Style Fried Chicken was great too and the BBQ Ranch took it to the next level. For my entree I went with the Basil Crusted Roasted Monkfish which came with Vietnamese Yellow Curry, Crispy Shrimp and veggies. The Monkfish was cooked perfectly. I had a great sear on it too which gave it a bit of a crunch. I know Monkfish can sometimes be intimidated people because it was pretty ugly looking but let me tell you if it's prepared like this you're going to love it. Some of the best fish I have had. The Vietnamese Yellow Curry paired very well with it too. Wasn't too heavy and didn't over power the fish but just added an extra boost of flavor. I know what you're thinking who could was possibly be hungry for dessert but it sounded good so we ordered the Thai Milk Tea Creme Brulee and the Yuzu Cheesecake. Both were light enough that we could still really enjoy them after all we had eaten. We really like that the Thai Milk Tea Creme Brulee also had bubble boba in it which we didn't expect. We had an amazing meal and for sure be coming back sooner rather then later.

Next apps: tempura fried green beans, so addictive delicious! And a great portion! Nann bread with assorted dips- it was good the nann were soft and clearly homemade with 3 different sauces. Scallop ravioli in truffle butter- the heavens might have open up and sang a Lil when I tried these, heavenly! Served with a happy Lil surprise being a Japanese Milk bread to soak up all that sauce. Grilled octopus- excellent! Grilled to perfection, tender with a great char and swimming in sauce, i could have eaten the whole thing myself! Or server was great, everyone working there seemed happy, chef owner in the kitchen cooking! A wonderful Gem!

I arrived on a Friday evening at around 5:45pm with my daughters and we were a party of 7 the remaining 4 had yet to arrive yet we were able to be seated. Our hopes instantly died once we reached the 20 minute mark and no one came for our orders or anything. We nearly walked out. It's a sushi and Thai place so I ordered Thai food, the Thai basil to be exact. Once it finally came out 40 minutes later, it was a dish with a heavy tomato based sauce and no Thai basil but regular basil. It was a huge disappointment. I also paid 3$+ to add chicken to the dish and only had 1 sliver of chicken in the entire dish. Extremely disappointing, the dish wasn't even Thai basil aka pad krapow, it was gross. I tried to get the attention of waiters/waitresses so we could get the checks and leave. But I was ignored several times by multiple people. Will not be back.

The hibachi is on the left-hand side when you walk in and if you're gonna have sushi Chinese, etc. that's on the right hand side. They also have a bar area, but I'm not sure that they have any kind of happy hour as I don't see it listed on the menu nor did I find it in any of the reviews I've read We typically start off with a couple of appetizers and then a roll or two. We walked in and we were immediately sat. The server asked us if he wanted to drink, and we ordered a large saki and water We knew we wanted to try the bao buns, spicy tuna avocado salad, and we tried the roti. The roti was the only thing we were not crazy about the bao buns and spicy tuna avocado were delicious. Last time I remembered, we got fried jalapeños and they were delicious, but we wanted to try something different this time We asked for a recommendation for a roll and requested no cooked fish and no crab. The server asked if we like spicy and he recommended the sweetheart roll. I did not find it spicy at all. It was just OK I've had better. Overall the majority of the items we've gotten here we've loved and even if we did not love it they were still OK

To be completely honest, it was the best we have had in a very long time. Our family takes Crab Rangoon seriously. Over the years we have probably ordered it in more than a thousand restaurants, and according to my mother, I have been eating it since the moment I could chew. One thing that immediately stood out at Nori was that they do not cut corners on the ingredients. The balance between the cream cheese and the crab was absolutely perfect, which is surprisingly rare. Too often restaurants overload the cream cheese and you can barely taste the crab. At Nori, the crab flavor actually shines through, which is exactly how it should be. The texture was just as impressive. Each piece was perfectly fried, light, crispy, and golden without being greasy. You could tell right away that the kitchen takes real pride in how they prepare their food. For anyone who loves Crab Rangoon the way our family does, this appetizer alone is worth the visit. The Culinary Duo officially gives it two very enthusiastic thumbs up. If you stop by Nori, make sure this is the first thing you order.
